E — Anthro Crossover Drama Human Sci-Fi
Armin suffers from a rare degenerative bone condition which will result in the end of his life if he doesn't take drastic measures soon. Thankfully, advancements in robotics and medical technology have provided him with a new option: The Meta-Frame. This technologically advanced exosuit will repair his body and stabilize his condition, but he will never be allowed to take it off ever again.
With the help of his robotic friend Pinkie Pie, Armin decides on the new exosuit identity he will wear for the rest of his life, wondering if perhaps he should join his pony pal with a body similar to hers...
Along the way, they'll meet other robotic partners based on famous retro television shows like Doctor Who, explore what it means to be human, and learn how to survive an identity crisis which will either be a rebirth of self or a repression of who Armin really is. Then again, perhaps things are not as clear-cut as they would seem...
Only one chapter so far, but one I really enjoyed. The idea of both strong AI assistants androids as common as some sort of Clippy's you don't want to strangle and some sort of augmentative but skin-thin exoskeletons you're hardwired into both seem like they're quite well realized so far.
Feels almost like cellphones, if you're old enough to get the comparison. Used to be rich-men's toys, now their in every pocket and thus part of the societal backdrop. That type of tech.
Anyway, gave me some pleasant flashbacks to working on Sufficiently Advanced, so I think this just might tide you over a bit while that story is still on hiatus. Really scratched that 'FiM realized in RL via high-tech' itch for me at least.

So this does actually refer to Armin from Attack on Titan? And he is a Dreadnought who hangs out with Pinkie Pie?

You know? The characters in AoT are so interchangeable and go squish so quick, I honestly didn't even notice that. That's really one of those shows where I turn my brain off and watch for the action.
But no, just the same name.
It's 70+ years in the future, though, so might be a namesake situation, but you'd have to ask boardgamebrony about that one.

Oh hey there book_burner! It's funny you ask that question, but as I was coming up with names, I thought to myself "I want something really unique." Armin was the first name to come up. However, I have seen much of Attack on Titan, but I guarantee you these are not the same character. I just like the name "Armin." :)

Thank you so much, Lord of Dorkness, for this story recommendation! I am ecstatic knowing that you highlighted my story for others to see. I am happy that the story is working so far and that you are enjoying the Pod Pal and Meta-Frame technology as they are realized in the story. I really am going for that future-positivity feel, where the biggest challenges you face are how you relate the technology to your life and how that changes you on a deeper level. There is definitely going to be more to this story, but I am in-love with the idea of a Pod Pal whom you can emulate with a suit of your own. I actually consider this a technological transformation story and one that helps me realize that maybe one day, we can have our own pony pals!

It makes sense in context, if that matters.
Because... well, their 'off the shelf' androids slash human cyborgs with cosmetic shells and themes like cellphones today. A standardized humanoid base-form makes for a logical starting point for that sort of thing.
Sounds interesting, will give it a try when there are a few more chapters out there.

To be fair, at least half of the "Main 8" in SA probably have some sort of anthro frame hanging in their closet. H!Rarity even had one mentioned in chapter.
