Layers of Fear, free on Steam · 5:14pm June 13th

From the dudes that went on to make Observer.

Personally from what I've seen of both games Layers is the flawed but interesting prototype of the two... but hey, free game, right?

(Minor scares spoilers in the review.)

Steam store page. Offer valid 'for a limited time,' so be sure to nab it if you've got a thing for horror.

Fortified, Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, both Free on Steam · 7:39pm June 6th

Never heard of this one, but it looks fun in a playable 50's b-movie with monsters & aliens kinda way.

Offer last the next 48 hours or so.

Unreal free on Steam · 6:17pm May 23rd

On phone due to minor PC upgrade, will be brief.

In celebration of its twentieth anniversary (!), the game and expansion will be free for abouth twenty four hours.

This was a PC melter back in the day, the Crysis of it's time. One of the first games REQUIRING a graphics-card, even.

Prismata, Free on Steam · 9:13pm May 18th

Now here's a rarity: an early-access game that's being given away for free. A 'kill the servers weekend,' as they put it.

And even more shocking, it actually looks really promising. A card-game with a really neat sci-fi take on the genera, and that's intentionally trying to avoid the Magic standard by mixing some RTS style stuff in.

Stories: The Path of Destinies, currently free on Steam · 9:45am May 12th

Steam store page.

Just log in, click the download link, and it's your's for keeps. Offer lasts the weekend out.

A bit on the repetitive side if you're trying for 100%, but it's a cool idea for a game. Basically being one of those 'chose your own adventure' books, but in action-adventure game-form.

I learned something new today! · 3:42pm May 9th

Apparently, you can get tooth decay under your own fillings!

Isn't nature just a thrill-ride of wonder and magic? :fluttershbad:

Good news, though: My dentist seemed fairly certain the tooth can be saved since the root itself is still healthy and for dentistry it wasn't that similar to high-way robbery, but yeash. That's kinda messed up even by biology standards.

Dark Horse Status · 7:15pm April 8th

12170 words, 33 pages, ~90% done.

I know those numbers doesn't sound so much compared with last time, but there's a lot of polish that's gone into this chapter hidden behind those unassuming numbers.

Crusader Kings 2, free on Steam · 3:27pm April 6th

Some sort of anniversary giveaway, lasting about 24-ish hours more. Vanilla game only, none of the expansions.

Tried to get into Paradox's 'eat your life, OMG' style historical sandboxes a few times, Hearts of Iron mainly, but the slow pace and how there's usually no end-state beyond 'survive until X' has made me bounce off them so far.

(Can really recommend Stellaris, though. One of the more open ended 4X games out there, with a lot of options on just how you shape your empire.)

R.I.P. — Stephen Hawking · 5:02pm March 14th

Stephen Hawking, who I believe no further elaboration on his many contributions to not only science, but getting the ever fickle public to actually care about science, sadly passed away today at age 76.

No word yet (from what I've heard at least) on the cause of death... but given the horrid degenerative disease he'd been fighting near all his life, I doubt we'll get any shocks once its made public.
