Overall, BABSCon 2016 was a blast. Going to an event like a con requires careful orchestration when you have kids in tow. You’re familiar with some variation of the the fox, goose, and beans logic puzzle, right? Traveling with kids is kind of like that, except you also have a time bomb with a broken countdown display strapped to your chest.

Here are some highlights from the weekend:
- I met Horizon, Filler, Xepher, Flutterpriest, Super Trampoline, and a bunch of other people whose names I didn’t catch (sorry!)
- I thanked Dr. Wolf in person for doing a reading of Last Words
- We met Lauren Faust. I now have a picture of her with my oldest daughter and the event still doesn’t feel real.
- I bought my wife an adorable Applejack plushie
- Nicole Oliver gave our kids blind bag ponies. She’s awesome like that.
- My wife chatted with G. M. Berrow about book publishing. I wish I’d been in on that conversation.
- I commissioned a sketch from Andy Price
- We all made it back home alive :ajsleepy:

And now it's time to get back to normal life… hopefully with some extra writing time

It was. Very fun weekend eh!

mrk

I found out thursday that an artist I had commissioned was going. I told him to tell you 'hi' if he saw you. He goes by Genji, I believe. Glad you had a good time!

Good seeing you again. Hope the kids had as much fun as it sounds.

The puzzle variant I'm familiar with uses a goose instead of a duck, and has you trying to cross a river with a rowboat, which always invited wiseass outside-the-box solutions like tying the duck to the boat and having him swim alongside you so you could solve it in two trips.

Glad you had fun!

I hear you on the kids! I went with my two-year-old son and my 11-year-old niece and HOO BOY. That was a marathon. Little one had a meltdown when he saw a cosplayer in a Pinkie Pie suit...

...He wasn't afraid of them at all. Oh no. He just never ever wanted them to leave. :ajsleepy:

Ah well. I got good pictures of him hugging a giant Pinkie anyway.

Indeed :pinkiehappy:

D'oh. I might've run across him, but I'm not sure… I'm horrible with both names and faces

This was my second time at BABSCon, and I have to say I'm amazed at how ludicrously friendly the cosplayers were, particularly to the kids

Now imagine acting out the puzzle when all your rational thoughts have been replaced by "AAAAAAH!" :pinkiecrazy:

At my last job, we joked that that was how our QA department worked, except we were only given enough schedule to make one and a half trips
