    Woah!! What exactly IS Humor?!

It's forming a new positive connection in your brain which once had a negitive or neutral reaction that takes you by surprise, not to be confused with making you afraid.

    And boom, gone.

Deleted the heated blog post at the request of a friend, if you have a sour taste in your mouth after that, I don’t, so you shouldn’t either.

    Anyway, so ponies are cute.

I love Patreon, because when someone has no useful skills in life at the moment or is completely out of luck, they can take their favorite hobby and make much needed cash off it. In theory, sounds awesome, but of course there are a lot of people who don't need cash but are good enough at what they do that they can make a pretty penny off it.

I don't believe I qualify as either of these. I walk the special line between living in poverty but not being in poverty. I'm financially stable, and I have more than enough nice possessions I've gotten over the years. Having an itty bitty bit of spending money would be nice, or just rainy day money.

I'd feel super bad thought trying to make money on Patreon though. It just doesn't feel right when there isn't a need for it or if I don't feel like my work is worth getting paid for.

But spending money would be nice.

So, if I were to do a Patreon, I definitely would want to charge very very little. I don't know how low you can go on Patreon but here is what sounds ideal to me:

5 or 10 cents a month for me working at least 2 hours on the Changeling every day.

The Changeling Doll is being tracked by about 3600 users. If only 2% were to pledge 5/10 cents, I'd make 36/72 bucks a month. That's awesome. Paying a nickel or dime a month is something practically anyone with a job could do (hopefully) and 36 bucks is big spending money in ratio with what I usually have to work with.

The reason this is appealing to me, is even if this totally does not work at all, is that I imagine by the time the month is up working on stuff for 2 hours will have become part of my daily routine. Win win situation, right?

I'm still very much on the fence about this though, and I need to research how Patreon works exactly too. Oh yeah, there's a reward system too, I bet I could throw something extra in like a link to my google docs account so you can see the chapter in the making or something. Not gonna do anything like 'EARLY ACCESS TO THE CHAPTER FOR PATREONS!' or anything, that's more punishing to those who don't contribute than anything else, so screw that.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: Lowest you can go on Patreon is a dollar.

Oh.

If you think you need the motivation to write, it might not be a bad idea. :derpytongue2:

Holy shit, A patreon I can actually afford to support :pinkiehappy:

I'm for this all the way, with my part-time job I can't really go with most patreons as I don't know how much I'll be making and if It'll be enough to afford it D;

I say do it :D

Why do you feel like you have to be 'in need' to justify using Patreon? It's completely optional for people who think you either deserve a reward for doing something entertaining or are willing to gamble that throwing money at you will make you write faster. That's pretty much what I said the terms are when set up mine and offered people the chance to pay me X dollars per chapter published.

Granted I was in pretty bad straits financially at the time and I did drift in and out of homeless a couple times, but I don't feel like that's a prerequisite, no.

That's pretty much a dollar a year. I'd be willing to pay you that.

Last I checked, Patreon requires a minimum of $1 for the placements, but kids could support that on allowance easily, let alone adults with access to a job. I'd pay that to help you out.

Five or ten cents doesn't even cover a standard credit card transaction fee. Just do a dollar a month or so, that's still pretty tiny.

You can go as cheap as you want, however, the minimum that one can be charged is $1.00. For those like me, who support others, this isn't an issue, because Paetron rolls your pledges into one. I'm charged $12.00 a month, and an extra dime couldn't.

Others, however, don't. Paetron would 'save up' the 10¢ per month until it gets to $1, at which point it gets charged. Thusly, you would only get payed about every ten months.

I've been surrounded by people with money issues my whole life, asking for money has been associated with a cringey feeling of guilt for a long while. Not that anyone has encouraged me to feel guilty...

Oh.

BUT I DON'T WANNA DOLLAR FROM EVERYONE. I DON'T NEED A DOLLAR FROM EVERYONE. THAT WOULD BE LIKE, 300 BUCKS POTENTIALLY, I DON'T NEED 300 DOLLARS. I JUST A DIME FROM MAYBE A COUPLE PEOPLE-oh well.

I haaaaate it~

I might do it still.
Maaaaybe.

Get yourself 300 bucks then. Really, if people believe you deserve a dollar of theiir money a month for your writing, why not let them give it to you?

I wish i could help..... i'm to poor to donate any money. If only giving likes well get the author one dollar XD.

3777320 Yeah, that's understandable but frankly I think the best thing you can do is try to get past it. Unless you get annoying about it having a Patreon isn't begging. This is literally the sort of thing it exists to fund.

Just make it clear upfront that it boils down to "Throw money at me to increase the odds of getting new chapters faster" and you'll be fine.

Worst thing that can happen is no one pitches in.

I would say to set it up and let people decide what they want to put in because while many people have financial issues thanks to the shitty economy, there are some of us who have the income to consider throwing significantly more than a dollar a non-issue. You can also set it up to be paid out per-chapter if you would rather use that as your encouragement to write, but you don't have to feel guilty about what people volunteer to pay you.

That right there, I can definitely see doing.
Hmm~
In that case, since I already have chapters finished since I'm working backwards to a degree, I might do that once I get everything I've already done posted.

Be aware that backers can also set a maximum number of times they want to be charged each month. I say just go ahead and do it. I'm not promising I'll back it (I'm currently still getting set up in a new living arrangement myself), but if people are willing to throw money at you to get you to write faster that should be all the proof you need that you deserve it.

I remember one of the two times I made it to your stream, someone linked a weird tumblr thing of "Take On Me" where it would get really high and weird. I found it again.

Also, I'd throw money at you.

I would... with the money you'd pay me with for editing 'n such. So that means that whatever you give me I'll just give back... sooooo... yeah, you keep it all. ;P
