Wayward Sun got flipped to "Mature." · 2:15am Jan 20th, 2016
Shook me up pretty bad when I got the PM. But I think it's my own fault: I've tended to disdain stories with the big red M, seeing them as a source of gore porn and, um, porn porn. As a kid who grew up on war movies and now works in an ICU, the notion of bloody violence as "mature" was one I never quite grasped so long as the gore wasn't the story. Which in hindsight was a touch delusional - a severed limb is a severed limb no matter how nobly lost.
Maybe it's just that Wayward Sun is my baby. It's the work here I'm proudest of, and the rating change feels like an official censure of it. I know it's not, but... eh, I'll get over it.

Huh. I've seen worse things pass for mature than a severed limb. One of the stories I worked on, Monsters, had a poor mare getting her heart surgically removed. Those pesky ribs had to be broken, of course.
Wear your Mature tag with pride, broski. I had one of mine flipped to Mature for exploring deep themes of suicidal ideation and depression.
Specifically why? I didn't see anything too mature...
I'm assuming the whole Celestia's death by acid was a factor? Really sorry to hear that and I really don't see it as something x-rated. There really should be a distinction from pg-13 to X-rated on fimfiction.
It's not really a mature story, yea. But I can see why it's not PG-13 either.
Fimfic needs an R-Rating, in other words.

For unclarified "repeated scenes of gore," so... an army burned away in one chapter, and a severed limb and temporary death by acid blood in another.
Ultimately short notes of two chapters in a 16 chapter fic... I earnestly disagree with the flip to the "everything naughty" rating, but it's not a fight I'm willing to have for a year-old project.

You can always appeal the decision, too. I mean, when I think of certain other stories - My Little Alicorn and The Immortal Game most leap to mind - there are certainly rather graphic scenes in those, and they are teen rated. It does seem odd this one would get the treatment and others the pass.
My Little Alicorn in particular stands out here because the scene in question is such massive whiplash from the story up to that point; here, it is something one might expect. There, it is totally out of left field and far more rending because of it.

I can kinda see where someone would be surprised by the violence—considering the vague description/Sad-tag combo—but its hardly gratuitous and unnecessary. Definetly not Mature-level.
