They...they do remember they made it a possibility that the Apples and the Pies are related right?
Cause they ship the two of them SOOOOOOOO fucking hard in this episode it's glorious.
They mention that Applejack and Pinkie might be cousins in the episode multiple times. Though, it's not like you can determine who you fall in love with. Maybe Equestria has a much more lenient view on incest. *shrugs* Either way, they're adorable together.
And if they do happen to be family, kinky.
i can see the ships already.......
They may be cousins but they aren't even second cousins. Pinkie is SOOO far removed that yeah ........nothing wrong
They were really adorable in that episode. Two unknown people in the apple and pie families are 4th cousins twice removed. That's about a 5 generation difference. Combined with the fact that we don't know how the two pones named are related to applejack and pinkie means that they are pretty distantly related. Enough that it isn't weird in my opinion. Especially because everything is a maybe.
I wanna say that there's gotta be like four-five degrees of seperation, but I can't actually remember what it was and can't be bothered to go back and look. Either way, my takeaway from that episode was that Pinkie and Applejack were cousins mostly because they were both willing to squint at the details.
...
Also, mandatory redneck incest joke: how do red necks celebrate Halloween? They pump kin.

3494053 Even if they were closer related, which I personally always saw that, (insert number here) cousin (insert number here) times removed thing as just a silly excuse to not call it incest, as I said, you can't help who you fall in love with. Yes I'm including close family members in that. It's really only seen as wrong 'cause that's just what our culture says. If our culture didn't say that, I have a feeling there would be a lot less people who look at incest as such a horrible thing/utterly disgusting. The biggest thing you could say against it is inbreeding, which is a problem. The less diversity in the world, the human race will fall, but people who are in relationships with their family members are in a small enough percent, I think, where that really shouldn't be a problem, I think.
3494047 That's what I was thinking.
They're so far removed, they're only kin by a technicality. There's nothing wrong with that, and I honestly hope they expand on that ship. Those two are adorable together.
3494115 Technically everyone on earth is related to each other. the number of direct genetic ancestors you have is 2^n where n is the number of generations. After 40 generations (approximately the 1100-1200), you end up with a trillion people. Since the earth's population in 2013 was 7.125 Billion, it's mathematically impossible for any two people to not be related to each other. So by your definition, every single relationship is incest, there has to be a line somewhere. I'd say 4th is far enough away. I hope I understood your sentence correctly, the wording felt a little weird to me.
Are the authors forgetting Cheerilee? or are they validating EVERY HERD FIC ON THE SITE!?
3494204 No, you read it right, and I understand that, via genetic ancestors, that everyone is more than likely related if they were actually able to figure things out back that far. I just always found it silly when you hear in movies or shows when they say things like, oh s/he's your second cousin, so it's fine' when they're still related to you. So if they were any closer related it wouldn't be fine? As I said, I don't see incest as something that should be so severely stigmatized, with the only real problem being inbreeding when the vast majority of the population are spreading genes around.
3494317 Well in any case Pinkie said 4th cousin twice removed back in Pinkie Apple Pie if the info is of any interest.
3494317 ahh, i get what you're saying. Inbreeding isn't really to much of a problem if it's just every once and a while, you don't start getting problems until a few generations of consistent inbreeding.
3494333 it was applejacks great great aunt and an unknown pie so that'd be 6th cousins?
Considering just how distant of a relation they are, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter.
Every couple I've ever met or seen or ever will see is related to each other within 40 generations. In fact, it's probably pretty close to 10 generations for most. Unless they're one of your grandparents direct descendants you don't really pay attention to it.
