Just, seriously, can there be a new tag made for these shit-stain fics, rather than crossover? And some way of filtering out said shit-stain stories.
I tried to write a parody of these things, back when the whole League shit was first starting (it was entitled: Hey Celestia, need a Pope? and was all about a young guy from a halloween party who ends up as an octogenarian in a frock in Equestria, with all the powers of the pope) but ended up cancelling it, because even as I was parodying the whole costumed character thing… it hurt me. It literally hurt me.
It led me to drink and self harm. I have scars to prove it. I am not even kidding*.
Why? Why do you write them? How are you convinced that they aren't just the most pathetic form of wish fulfilment? Or do you know, and just don't care? Why do you read them? Same as above?
I mean, they're like bad foreign knock off products. Just poor quality attempts that shit all over the real thing!
Or, you know, any official Hasbro toy.
I just… I don't get it. It's like a cancer on fimfic at the moment, and with the drought of good fics coming out lately, and the number of authors who have given up and gone home…

I don't get the appeal of them. I mean, I am interested in X goes to Equestria stories, if I am a fan of what ever X is. I've read some pretty decent crossovers that have been great. I've read some that have been pretty shit, too, but at least the authors fucking tried. This shit is just some hand-waved dross to excuse shit authors fucking up the characters. It's a worse excuse than "Its alt-urnivase!"
This may or may not have come up when I saw a "crossover" fic involving a character that I thought, Hey, this might be good! only to find it was another displaced fic.
Seriously, go fuck yourself.

My motto is, if you don't like what's in the featured story box, write your own stories to beat them.
After all, if they're such crap, it shouldn't be hard, right?

They're about as bad as self-insert fics, and that's scraping the barrel in terms of quality. It is all very self-fulfilling story telling, to me. It's more the author saying, "You know what would be awesome? Having Starscream associate with the main six in some way! Now how do I make that work in the easiest way possible?" And then they write their story. I've never once found any of those fics to be even remotely interesting because of that.

Trust me, I've thought hard about how to make a salvageable story out of this premise, but it's . . . difficult, to say the least. In my eyes, it'd be hard to establish the character as likable as well as mesh the costume into the story in a way that makes sense. I'd probably make it an emotional monologue in the Everfree Forest or something before any real story begins, and that's heavy, purply writing right there.

As a writer of one of the first LoHAV fics, I agree. However, I haven't seen any Displaced fic pop up lately, except that one Plague Master. Why the outrage now?

People have said this since the beginning and every time they recommend 'X is a good one' I try one chapter of it only to gag under the sheer weight of grammatical, spelling, and other basic errors. The 'best' one I ever saw promptly shot itself in the head by deciding that it wanted to have the character work under literal video game mechanics that made no narrative sense whatsoever and were even worse than gun porn.

Every time I see those anywhere on the front page I facepalm. I'll bet there are some good ones out there, but I don't like the premise and haven't bothered to look. Have a friend who actually tried to write one of those, but thankfully they have a sense of quality that prevented them from releasing it... along with my ability to inadvertently destroy their passion for writing.
You are right, the vast majority of them.. suck. There are some that I thought were good, but it's only a couple... maybe three at most, one for sure.

Yeah, that is where I have been finding them. As I said, I trawl through the new stories and updates for possible gems. But there is a lot of these displaced fics, and even the ones that look somewhat interesting as a cross over turn out to be shit. Because they aren't cross overs. At all.
