God Squad Season 3 Notes and News and a Poll · 1:23pm Sep 28th, 2015
With me now back to finish up season 2 of the God Squad I've also begun the planning phase for Season 3 (Right now entitled 'The God Squad: Equestria's Mightiest Immortals'). While I have a TON of fun things planned (including, but no limited to, Shining and Tydal going on the hunt for Starlight Glimmer, seeing what Chrysalis, Luna, and Tydal were doing during the Grand Galloping Gala, A Slice of Life two-parter with the first half focusing on what the Squad was doing (why did they forget the present? Why does Shining cry at weddings? What was that Changeling doing there) and the other half focusing on the supporting God Squad cast (Plotdump, Coral and Misty, Wall Breaker, so on), the family dealing with the news that Luna has been having nightmares for a long time, as well as their own Stand-Alone adventures like a trip to Saddle Arabia. Oh, and Equestria Boys Three.
That said, I am having a mental debate with myself. Part of me wants to add a new member to the God Squad, to add a new element to their adventures. Here are some of the choices I've come up with but feel free to suggest your own!
-Discord
-The Ghost of Starswirl the Bearded
-Sunset Shimmer (I really enjoy her relationship with Tydal... very grandfather/granddaughter)
-Polar Vortex (who we met in Crisis of Infinite Twilights)
-Or should the new member spot be a rotational base slot filled with new members each adventure, much like how Rarity was a member of the Squad in Prance.
-Or keep the team as-is.
Can we vote for 2 new members?

I've definately grown to enjoy Sunset Shimmer in this universe. Again, if the cakes are to be believed, she is Celestia's daughter and thus Tydal's granddaughter... and the relationship I am developing for them is very sweet. She has enough of Scootaverse Luna and Celestia's sass to make her able to handle her grandpa while also going along with his madness.
Seems like the best of all choices, to be honest.

That's the one I am leaning towards but I wanted opinions. THe Prance Arc is one of my favorites because I loved how Rarity slid into the group so well and offered new interactions. THe idea that the Squad (Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Tydal, Shining, and Chrysalis) are the core group with others popping in for aid would make for a ton of cool stories.

It would be nice to see Twilight get involved in the crazy antics of her family (after all, Shining Armor is her brother, Cadence is her sister in law, and that makes Celestia and Luna her aunts in law. And since Tydal is a father figure to Celestia and Luna, that makes him Twilight's grandfather)

I think a rotating cast member is good, let's more characters intract with the current group. But I would like seeing Discord, Sunset, or Twilight tag along for an adventure or two.

Sunset! I'm continually amazed by Sunset Shimmer.
Ghost Nappa or my OC Kul'as. The former because why not anf the latter because the God Squad needs a total prick that would love to kill more then Tydal. A sort of guy he could have a rival kill score with.

I have to agree. With the rotation, you could get any character you wanted to throw in, and you could always have reserve members stick around for more than one adventure. That way, you have a much larger pool of characters to work with, and if you start feeling like a character isn't meshing with the group, you can just drop them.
Although having Sunset permanently join the Squad has appeal as well. Any chance for a little of column A, little of column B?

I'd say go with the rotational idea, it's probably the best, that way, the characters get their screentime and shenanigans, but there's no risk of them having to grab the idiot ball, for example, Discord is the eldest of the group and a reality warper, with him, he could solve most problems in a snap, literally, so, that might make things a tad more hard to write, yeah. Rotational is probably the best option.

Originally the plan was to include Discord in the Squad but I found that, much like you said here, it would involve locking down his powers. Hard enough to justify the Squad not using all their powers.
I am leaning towards Sunset joining the Squad full-time as Tydal's apprentice but also having other members of the Mane 6, the Godly Family, and other characters rotate in and out. The next season is very much built for seperating the Squad at times and having them have new and interesting interactions.

Precisely, again, I'd say rotation is the best idea, plus, it allows everyone to have screen time.

That's part of the reason that, starting with the next arc, we'll see the Squad begin splitting off into their own adventures. I won't give it away but the next arc sees Shining and only another member of the Squad trying to protect the Crystal Castle from robbers.

You're telling me, that a bunch of robbers, are going up against an immortal unicorn with a lot of magical powers, probably knows how to teleport, and specialized in barrier spells and is likely to gain his wings eventually, as well as another full blown deity or at least Twilight or Sunset? This will be fun.
