Review Roundup: August 10th-21st · 5:40pm Aug 25th, 2015

I'm back from vacation, and here's what happened at my review blog while I was out of town! Some reviewing, some writing advice, some thoughts on the nature of reviewmanship, all courtesy of some very talented folks from around the fandom. Also, this (bi)week we're taking a reader suggestion and adding some bolding to help improve the "eyeflow" of things; I'm not 100% sure what "eyeflow" means, but if it means what I think it means, it's not something I'm very good at, so... hopefully this eyeflows better? Anyway, here's the what's what:

Monday, August 10, 2015: Here's What's Going to Happen for the Next Couple of Weeks

A somewhat more detailed version of the blurb I lead this blogpost with. You probably don't need to read it at this point... unless you want to know what lengthy fandom standby I read on vacation, and is going to have its review posted in less than 12 hours.

Wednesday, August 12, 2015: Guest Review: In a Tavern, Down by the River

Icy Shake reviews Lysis's Trixie-centric fanfic, which mixes shipping and low-stakes intrigue (the story, not the review).

Friday, August 14, 2015: Strength of Character(s)

Bachiavellian discusses how to make the characters in your story vibrant and believable.

Monday, August 17, 2015: Random Humor and You: A Very Serious Primer

Aragon tells a several thousand word "your mom" joke looks at how to write a random comedy that's both "random" AND "comedy."

Wednesday, August 19, 2015: Objective Quality

DannyJ examines what we can--and can't--say about a piece of writing that doesn't require the preface "In my opinion..."

Friday, August 21, 2015: Quality vs. Caliber

Pascoite approaches the same question as DannyJ from the opposite direction, examining how one can separate what one likes or dislikes from the actual quality of a piece of writing.

Aaaand I still haven't rewritten that blog post.

Dammit, I have been annoyingly useless for the mast couple of weeks. Hopefully I can polish off my review work this week and do it at the weekend.

Hey, this came up in conversation at Bronycon! The discussion topic, that is. And it was with Pasco, too. Imagine that.
