THE SINGULARITY SONG · 1:45pm Jul 13th, 2015

...

Yeah, I think that sums up a post-singularity society from the average Joe's perspective quite well. Death robots hunting us all, or eternal vacation. Not much else in-between.

Interesting how much of SA I could see in that three-minute song though.

Robot boss? Admiral Shining technically fits.

Robot 'wife?' Well, #431 isn't quite there with Blake, but she's sure working on it.

Oh, and a few being totally cool with 'horrible' robotic metamorphoses as long as they get all the neat new toys for the rest of eternity. :rainbowlaugh:

'horrible' robotic metamorphoses

Once you get to nano level technology you can create synthetic biology and make you look like you are a meatbag with all the benefits of being a robot... android? Whatever a human upload in a robot body would be called.

I assume you heard the OTHER singularity song by The Lisps?

I think it would be one of those fluid definitions depending on the person asking and what moral system they subscribe to. If you see mind-uploads as a continuation of the person he or she's either a cyborg or a personality fork, while if you do not he or she's a creepy android it took a 'real' person to build.

Not to sow any controversy, but if I say 'fetus' and 'baby' in the same sentence I think you'll get what I mean. One of those things.

But yeah. I personally think outright cybernetics to be the future (big shock :derpytongue2:), but I won't deny synthetic biology has some really neat implications if it ever gets out of the lab.

Long live the new flesh.

I had not, actually. Really neat song.

Thanks.

Haven't seen that one, actually. For some reason Videodrome always slip my mind when I'm feeling in a sci-fi and movie mood.

Obligatory

It's not thematically appropriate anyway, but I couldn't really let an opportunity for that line slip. :derpytongue2:

Mind you, I am a transhumanist, after a fashion, I'm just not naive about it. Self-directed evolution and prosthetics are pretty much the one and only way we'll ever settle another planet or get past the hard limits of our own neurology, which our science and technology will run into eventually. That doesn't have a lot to do with the kind of person who thinks it's a fast track to superpowers, though.

Mind you, I do get what you mean. I don't agree with it, but I do get where the derogatory: 'Rapture of the nerds' nickname comes from. Quite a few that calls themselves transhumanists are really only in it for the power-fantasy of being a badass cyborg.

Still, I'd lie my pretty little head off if I said I wasn't looking forward to some of that stuff myself. There's bionic lenses in testing right now for instance that are looking really promising, for example, and I wouldn't mind shelving my glasses for ever.

Heh, true. I know a guy who has a cochlear implant. I would be seriously tempted to get one myself, as soon as they become better than normal hearing. Infrasound, ultrasound, all things you can make audible with one of those things, if you want to. Never wonder why your dog suddenly got spooked again, because you can hear what they hear! That kind of thing is what I'm into technology for.

Very cute song, but overall, id be happy seeing diseases wiped out, weak bodies aided so they dont suffer. (Things like Pectus excavatum that still exist, or chrones, even genetic diseases, or least their downsides mitigated.) Overall, you can be one to live well, but again, there's one slight hiccup, in that nature of the money overall. And you can see where im going with this. If you have the money to ensure you can an edge that keeps you ahead and enough so that nothing ever catches up. While someone with less fortunate starts, will never close that gap.

You can change the scene, the setting, and the when, but you cant take humanity out of being humanity, for good and ill.

If they don't have any real Spiral Spirit they're just cishuman scum :trollestia:.
