As you are all well aware by now, we had Moondancer appear in an episode, with speaking role, personality, new looks and all the shabang. And she looks NOTHING like Moondancer in my story. Prepare yourselves for my honest to god reaction, the one which any fanfic writer gets when show introduces an element that contradicts your work.

I LOVE IT! That was such a great episode I didn't know I needed to see but I did and it was PAAH-FECT! This episode is my current favourite from season 5, not just because of Moondancer, but because it dealt with issues this show didn't address until now and did it in a great way. The callbacks, the cameos, the writing which acknowledged previous episodes... I wasn't this giddy since Rainbow Rocks (in case you didn't read it- I compared it to Guardians of the Friggin Galaxy! Guardians won, but barely).
I know how this sounds, but this ties in so well with my version, I can almost make a chart explaining what went different in canon and stallionverse and how it affected everypony! I'm ten minutes after watching it and my head it full of ideas, possibilities and inspiration I was sorely needing those last few days. To name a few:
-Moondancer has a sister- breaking my 'single foal' angle I had, or introduces possible drama?
-her being a shut in bookworm instead of bubbly whore becasue Twilight wasn't there- totally my version
-the Sound Shield (or what's it called?) is almost a perfect copy of my Cloaking Sphere, with users switched
-background ponies being friends with Twi and Moon- possibly not friends because Sunset joined the fray?
As you can see, I can barely glue a coherent sentence as I am now.
tl;dr - don't worry if canon screws your story. Instead, look for the way to make it work for you. That way you'll have just as much fun creating these stories, as your readers will when discovering them.
...also, Moonie will probably get a tag soon! Yays!
Your thoughts pretty much sum up mine. It was a fantastic episode and I enjoyed it. I'm especially amused by the fact that Canon!Minuette ended up being a G-Rated version of Moonie.
My only issue was its low Lyra content, but even that's forgivable.

I'm curious though if the similar hairstyle is due to coincidence or a hidden crush though. The former would seem more likely considering how much that party meant to her... Also gives a better shipping target then 'no-personality Flash'
Edit: Would be a good reason for having Moondancer as the founder of that Twilight Watchers Club.
1. I think you and i speak for all writers on this site when we say that this episode has opened up new possibilities and new universes. I love how you loopholed the differences between your Moondancer and the one shown. That was genius. This has opened up my mind for an idea for my first pony fic (which was inspired by you, so thanks for that).
2. To be honest, i almost cried at the end (there's nothing wrong with that). Seriously, i could feel the tears burning in my eyes, but i said, "It's a kid's show! The ending of Young Justice didn't break me. This won't!) I loved this episode! This is my third favorite episode (twi vs tirek is first, followed by either the Griffinstone or Starlight episode in S5, undecided) in the show and favorite in the season... somehow...

I also had the same thought. With your version of Twilight being more friendly and having Sunset there, your version of Moondancer can totally happen.
Also, the episode confirms that they did have other friends if they'd have made and effort to shake the hooves being offered.
Namely, Minnute, Twinkleshine, and Lemon Hearts. Probably Lyra as well because she was mentioned.
And it lends credence to Moondancer being Twilight/Sunset levels of smartypants.
3206911 I agree with you on that . She was sad that Twilight did not go to her party and thought she did not love me or care about me and that is why she pushed everpony away.
I haven't seen it yet because terrible timing on my schedule. 9:30 is literally exactly the time on Saturday that everyone else in my family gets up and we have to start chores. If they would do it two hours or even one earlier in the morning I could actually be a PART of this. Bawling my frikkin eyes out cuz it must have been the best episode EVER!

3208413 I didn't change Sunset Shimmer when Rainbow Rocks came, and neither will Moondancer change because of this episode. I might use a few elements from the episode, though.
Well given how canon Moondancer bacame the way she did, and that Twilight did a much better job at being a friend in the Stallionverse you could argue that this is simple just another what if result of verse itself, and that also including her design as well.

I kind of like your Moony better, but it does kind of work doesn't it? Anyway, even if it didn't fit you could just pass it off as two ponies sharing a name. I know about five guys named Matt with brown hair, is it really so far fetched that there could be two ponies named Moondancer with the same mane colors?

I couldn't help but think of your Moondancer the entire time, listing off the complete opposites about her there. I mean...I know that's what the Alternate Universe tag is for, but conveniently nailing the opposites of LITERALLY EVERY FACET OF HER BACKGROUND AND PERSONALITY was amazing.
Also I love how the episode makes you think "Oh, Twilight's just gonna over-react to everyone" and then realizes her fear was entirely justified for one pony. It was a nice subversion. Also, more Lyra background is nice when I didn't expect it (nor do I think she'd mind Twi's past either since she's a bit busy dealing with Special Agent Sweetie Drops).
