Drawing trails in the Dust #3 [Art Blog] · 9:42pm Apr 4th, 2015
Hi. I don't always write. When I'm not writing, I'm touching mustelidae inappropriately drawing, amongst other things, and tonight I was feeling sketchy. Please skip this blog if you're allergic to art.
I had previously done a couple attempts at painting (I like to try new things, sometimes with terrible results) for my happy go fun lucky alt universe story Dust and Harmony, which depicted a badly painted Twilight and a badly painted future spike.
Hit the break for more badly painted stuff, and a small tease of some new things.
Poor Dash. You're such a coward and a loser and a drunk. You're always grumpy in the mornings. You don't know how to do nothin', and you can't even speed force. I don't see what Constance sees in you that might possibly be interpreted as sexual tension. Nope, none of that sexual tension here, no sir. Go put on some pants, Dash, your shame is showing.
This is a character to be introduced in the next chapter of Dust, coming out soon, I promise. And before you ask, her Cutie Mark consists of three happy little leeches. But this character is unimportant and you should not worry about her. Please especially try not to guess who she is because you are wrong.

Well, maybe it's just because it's 4AM here and I'm sleep deprived, and maybe it was because you already mentioned "sexual tension" earlier, but I scrolled down before I read the text, and when I saw those three objects, the first thing that popped into my head was "Perhaps this is the western bizarro-world Ponyville's local woman of ill repute, and her special talent is represented by the objects she would regularly be concerning herself with, given her line of business."

Oh, huh. I thought they were something you see used as water balloons at a lot of college campuses, but were originally intended for a purpose more related to alt-Pinkie's profession. But on second thought, I don't think those were invented in the Old West.

Yes, yes. I know. They look like condoms. I know. Ribbed for your pleasure too. It's not my fault cartoon leeches resemble condoms and/or horse penises, depending on who you ask. Also, fun fact, in the old times, they used sheep intestines as condoms. So they were invented back then. Or sort of. They HAD them, at least. Either that or they were really bored and wanted to stick their penises into sheep guts. Either way, mate. Invention is born of necessity, as they say.

Moving on, Moonshine Dash's cutiemark is a bottle? That doesn't seem related to blacksmithing.

It's a little bit more conceptual. Just as a cloud with lightning represents Dash's speed and impulsive nature in the show proper, her cutie mark here is bottled thunder, representing how she keeps her potential bottled up.

So you think Leeches are pointy on one end then? I kid, I kid. I believe you that they're badly drawn leeches. One thing that might help your picture- adding teeth. I feel like that's an important feature for making leeches recognizable.

And when I first drew them, I actually tried to add teeth. It didn't come out that well, and also,
Fluttersthat character isn't evil, so all the teeth kinda doesn't fit. I will probably try to redraw them one day in a more streamlined manner. To tell you the truth, I just sorta threw the cutie marks in. I didn't spend much time on these doodles. I could do the long, thin black leech instead. =)
