Upcoming official season five plot twist with Daring Do? · 4:06pm Mar 2nd, 2015

Theory behind the cut.

(Thanks to palaikai for the post that made me aware of this bit of news.)

So, apparently there's a new Daring Do vinyl figure out.

And I will admit, for once I'm unhappy I live hundred of miles from the nearest Hot Topic. Once for everything, I guess.

Still, notice something slightly interesting about that package?

Yeah, Daring Do Dazzle.

Now, where have we heard that in a name before...?

LOVE that pic.

Anyway, the figure has apparently been out since October, so plenty of time for season five while still letting them guage the reaction to the Dazzlings with a few months.

So 'just' a mortal descendant about to get a rather mixed visit from an old relative... She does have similar colors to Adagio, after all. Especially the eyes, but that shade of purple seem quite common among ponies, so might not be conclusive.

Or is there perhaps even a rather special ruby hiding underneath the ensemble of one of the few ponies that always have been shown wearing clothes?

Will admit it that 'Yearling' and her cloak is a bit more problematic to fit into that idea, but given how much magic there's sloshing around in Equestria some type of magical obfuscation doesn't sound that unlikely.

Think I'm on to something, or is it just Hasbro being weird about the merchandise again?

Personally, I hope I am. Would be really, really neat to see a character for once with 'dark' powers that didn't need a redemption arc to be a good-guy. And if it's such a twist for a fan favorite? Even better, in my opinion.

Heck, it would even make the Indiana Jones parallel even deeper since he's immortal in the extended universe. :applejackconfused:

Still, thoughts?

I swear, 9/11 truthers have nothing on pony conspiracy experts. :derpytongue2:

I think Hasbro just being Hasbro and left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

Still, very cool theory.

Indiana Jones EU?!?!?! Immortal too?!?!?! What?!?! Can someone inform me what constitutes the EU in terms of books, games, etc?

This is the first I've heard of an Indiana Jones EU.

Is that really a thing?

It certainly fits Daring's personality.

They add Dazzle to a lot of pony names. Diamond Tiara for one. I think Twist got something added to her name. Ect, ect

....Sure, why not.
Toss that into the idea pile.

Oh, yes, and it's quite extensive... if rather overshadowed by the Star Wars one.

On further looking I can't find a source on the immortality thing, though, sadly. As I'd heard it it had been hinted that Indy had gotten so many blessings and exposures to strange artifacts through his adventures that he'd become undying; still aging and capable of being killed, but far sturdier than normal men, and mere age would never claim him.

Guess it was one of those things planned that never got added or something. A pity, because I found it a really neat concept. Just seemed like a really good explanation for some of the crazy larger-than-life stunts that man pulls, without undoing the greatness of the man himself with 'destiny' or similar.

Still, I haven't explored the 'further adventures' much myself... but there are some really excellent video games, and at least 'Young Indiana Jones and the Titanic Adventure' was quite good according to twelve-year old me.

Sadly no idea where to even start on acquiring any of them legaly, aside from the usual haunt of EBay. Steam has a pack with two of the adventure games, though, and it comes with Loom and The dig; two other classics from Lucasarts.

Honestly, only The Dig is worth that pittance their asking (8.99€), so I'd actually highly recommend that one if you're curious on seeing more Indy than just the movies.

Hope that helped. :twistnerd:

...So the biggest bully in the whole setting, might actually literally not only feel better, but become stronger from being a general pain? Now there's a nasty feed-back loop for a kid.

Oh my, I think I've got some new head-canon.

I prefer the idea that Daring Do is a close relative of Ditzy Doo/Derpy Hooves

Distant cousins, only one of which that got the right mix of genes to get a taste for sushi and sprout the bling of disharmony growing up?

Just saying, I think the two ideas could be mixed quite decently.

It's most likely just like the Transformers toys where they append "Autobot" or "Decepticon" to names that they have a hard time trademarking, or foolishly bound to another toy.

After all there was a "Cup Cake" brushable that doesn't look a thing like Mrs Cake, so the "blindbag" for Pinkie's employer is called "Mrs. Dazzle Cake."

Say, how do you make a page break?

Actually, might be interesting to see an arc like that, but no solid proof and prolly trademark shenanigans.

Yeah, pure speculation. And probably.

Just an interesting little idea that just popped into my head, and I thought I'd share.

Still, if nothing else you get far better bragging rights with a time stamp attached, ja? :trollestia:

Funny you should mention that. I just picked up a DRM-free copy of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis a couple of hours ago when it showed up in GOG.com's in-progress insomnia sale.

2843691 That could very well be it (there are a couple of fics that have Derpy as a Siren of sorts), personally i have two standard theories the first (which simply ignores that Ep in which "A.K. Yearling" appears) is that the real Daring Do was Ditzy/Derpy's great Grandmother or great aunt or something who found and did a initial explorations of ruins/sights for archaeologists. The second is that she is a close relative of Derpy/Ditzy's who takes real adventures she has had and "enhances".

Well, I guess I'm related to Daring Do as well as the siren bitch.

Indiana Jones being immortal comes from Last Crusade. He drank from the Holy Grail.
