2804580 I knew it! I'm Mexican too and when I first learned that those shelled half moons where what Americans called a taco I was quite perplexed. (to me they looked like really fat fried quesadillas) I wonder just how this difference came to be, probably in the same way that the "5 the Mayo" became the Mexican holiday to celebrate here rather than the actual Mexican Independence day(Sep 27) or at least the day of "El Grito de Independencia"(Sep. 16) or some of the other September holidays. In fact Americans are so oblivious to Mexican holidays that almost all of them are unaware that Mexico actually had an official "Dia del Taco".

Well it actually was just publicity supported by the government in 2007 to sell the overproduced corn stock; but still it happened!

Also the actual Taco has a lot of history dating all the way back to the 1500s to Hernan Cortes and the first attempts to mix European cuisine with American food stock; but that's a long story.
