The Year of Living Cheesily · 8:58am Jan 31st, 2015
So, as my friend Sketcha-Holic just reminded me, Pinkie Pride first aired a year ago.
Wow.
A whole lot of pony words happened between now and then, my friends.
I wasn't a Weird Al fan--not a non-fan, but not a fan, either. All I knew was "White and Nerdy." But I was pretty blown away. A week later, Swear on Camembert was finished. And two amazing things happened.
1. Matt Garner, the creator of Ask Vaudeville, gave me permission to use his picture, Generations of Laughter, as the cover image. In fact, the only reason why the story wasn't published two days earlier was because I was anxiously waiting for him to check that it was ok before using his picture. Finally, I promised that there was no tentacle porn, and he said he was disappointed and read it anyway, and really liked it. That's always great, when someone you're a fan of likes your stuff. And now it's a shirt! You can toss some money Matt's way and show off his art and subtly advertise my fic at the same time!
2. Somebody fished through the incoming slush pile and picked up Swear on Camembert and put it in Twilight's Library, where it was featured.
Me: Oh, how nice. --What's Twilight's Library?
That turned out to be a pretty big thing, too.
Anyway, I've always said that ships have different messages. And the reason I've always held CheesePie dear is because of what I think its core messages are:
Your kind action or your smile may make a huge difference you'll never know about.
No matter who you are, you are not too young/too old/too ugly/too poor/too stupid/too weird/too broken/too damaged for someone to love you exactly the way you are. Cheese loves Pinkie as she is. She doesn't seem too strange to him, but he's pretty weird himself. They make sense to each other, and really, that's all that matters.
All in all, it's been a good year and I have read and written many horse words and met many, many nice and intelligent people, and I look forward to reading and writing and meeting more.
And I've also found that...

... it's never the wrong time for a surprise hug!

That's a good take on the message. I like that.
P.S. Now that a new tour has been announced, you should look into catching Weird Al in concert. It's a fantastic experience, his band is talented as hell... and it's Mandatory.
I agree. There's something beautiful and fun and happy abut Pinkie with Cheese that makes stories about them together really bright and wonderful.
2759509 You are so right! Gosh, I haven't written anything with the CMC in a long time, but one is actually on the short list.
2759511 Believe it or not, I have now! He guested at the Simpsons' Twenty-Fifth Annual Gala at the Hollywood Bowl, though of course it's not quite the same thing.
2759518
Oh, it's definitely not the same thing.
2759518
Yay!
Equestria Girls CMC, or the regular CMC?
Actually, would they be the Cutie Mark Crusaders in Equestria Girls? Do they even have cutie marks there?

This pretty much sums up the anniversary of that episode.
As a Professor, you probably used eMail since the 1970s (the POP-Protocol goes back to 1972). Even though you are not a fan of Weird Al Yankovic, you probably found yourself sing these 2 lines from “It’s All About The Pentiums”:
Receiving vacuous me-too from clueless students who are just wasting their parents money, with future careers in ditch digging, must drive you up the wall. Surely, you sing those lines:
You probably also like Word-Crimes:
You single-handedly convinced me, one of the most pairing-agnostic people on this site, of the validity of CheesePie. I eagerly look forward to seeing what else you can do.
2759525 Well, they all have those T-shirt designs or badges or similar to represent a cutie mark, so maybe the Crusaders would be charging into T-shirt shops or jewelry stores and trying to test every activity they might represent in hopes that one will finally fit.
2759624
So they're the t-shirt mark crusaders?
--Sweetie Belle
2759636 I've heard people refer to them as "shirty marks," so maybe?
2759525 It'll be regular CMC--or at least a grown up member of the CMC. The Equestria Girls versions seem to call themselves simply "The Crusaders."
2759515 I agree. Even when I've put them in tough situations, they retain a basically innocent attitude towards life (and, of course, weaponized laughter.)
It still amazes me that it's been a year since that episode first premiered. Being the one episode that pushed me into writing an MLP fanfic of all things, finally giving me a good idea for a pony OC, making me have an active ship that never fails to be adorable, introducing Best Stallion, all that jazz.
You know what this calls for?

A PARTY!
Congrats, friend! PS: I only knew White and Nerdy and Eat It as well before the episode aired
Your'e my favorite CheesePie writer, and I wish you many more wonderful stories
Wow, I can't believe that its been a year already. I feel like it first aired so recently! As for me, I've known about Weird Al for a long time since my parents are both fans of him. So, I was really excited when I heard that he was going to be on the show. I never thought I would ship Cheese and Pinkie, but by the time the episode was done, it was too late. Cheers to CheesePie!
