Hey guys guys guys · 2:41am Dec 5th, 2016
So, hi, you haven't probably seen much from me, and that is primarily because I have been sucked in again by my primary fandom, Harry Potter. Which isn't surprising, considering that I help run a convention and teach a course on it and am the school's club's faculty advisor and have given talks on it for, oh, over a decade.
So for me, for the last few months, it has been mostly about:
(There is other fan art I like more, but I chose this one because it doesn't have any spoilers. Go see this movie RIGHT NOW, so I don't have to tiptoe on eggshells, 'k?)
Mainly, I am here to post this. I think a lot of people can identify; if not with the kid, then with the mom.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I WANT EDDIE REDMAYNE RIDING ON A UNICORN IN ONE OF THE FANTASTIC BEASTS MOVIES NOW...
Horse Hockey.

4329165 Same, pity that.
Glad to see you around again Scoots, you've been missed.
... I honestly don't see why people were laughing in that video. That's a fantastic idea.
In any case, good to hear from you. Glad you're enjoying the latest from the Wizarding World.
4329413 Probably because no one really needs a plastic Fisher Price well to be contemplative and introspective. It does nothing to embody the kind of environment that a child needs to do that.

I suppose. Not much need for most toys by that argument; they're all designed as imagination aids.
4329763 Yes, but wells aren't actually an aid to introspection. The likelihood that buying a well will make your child more introspective is practically nil, because the connection between a well and introspection is tenuous at best, even in a child's mind. Nothing exists to establish that causality. And it's unlikely that a child would even recognize the significance of that connection, even if an adult were to insist on it.
The problem here is that we're looking at introspection as if it were a tool-assisted activity--like a stove would assist with cooking, or a stethoscope would assist with playing doctor, or a house would assist with... well, playing house. In a vast majority of circumstances, introspection isn't anything like that, because introspection isn't a tangible or mechanical hobby. It occurs through guidance, confrontation, or circumstance, and it occurs between the self and the self, not the self and objects. Children can't play at introspection the same way they play at other tasks, because introspection can't be modeled like other adult behaviors.
Hey Scoots, if you got a line on any sweet Fantastic Beasts fanfic, don't be shy about sharing a link please.
4330010 It's the fan ART that's amazing. There's probably some good fanfic, but I'm not seeking it out just yet.
How is the new movie? I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.
4330700 I loved it. Even the soundtrack is great.
