Twilight Sparkle is lonely. So lonely, in fact, that she spends many months devising a plan to get Rainbow Dash to snuggle with her in the hopes that doing something so intimate would let Rainbow see just how much she cares about her.

Quick Question about Snuggles and Cuddles · 5:45am Jan 3rd, 2015

Hey everyone, I have a quick question for ya. The story has nearly 300 likes, but it's been favorited by just over 600 people. For those that haven't liked it, what are your reasons for doing so? I am a bit curious as to why there's such a huge difference between the two, and to be honest, it's a little discouraging.

In my experience, some will favorite a story to keep tabs on it while withholding their upvote until the story is finished.

People are unpredictable.
I mean, I have a bookshelf called Propane Grill.

People who are unaware of my love to KOTH wonder why the f*ck did I give it that name.

2697238 True, but there's a tracking function now. They don't have to favorite the story to keep track of it.

i just favorite a story when i want to read it, read later doesn't really get me motivated to read something

2697242 Old habits die hard.

Well, when I read a story, I "thumbs-up" it if it was written well. I "favorite" it if I personally like it and it's written well.

Unfortunately, I haven't done either for "Snuggles and Cuddles". Mainly 'cause I haven't read it.

It's that sad tag that makes me nervous. I don't like stories with sad endings.

But that's how I rate stories, anyhoof. I hope it sheds some light on others', maybe.

2697254 Not all sad stories have sad endings.

2697256 Well, in that case, I may have to give it a shot.

'Twould be interesting to read one of your stories as you work on it. I've only ever read stories that you've already completed.

Come to think of it, I haven't read an "in progress" story for quite a long time. I miss the suspense.

Anyhow, you're a good author. I'm sure if I give Snuggles and Cuddles a look, I'll end up at least enjoying it enough to give it a thumbs-up.

Maybe, because all bookshelves can be modified, adding a story to a bookshelf adds a "favorite". So, a lot of people may have the story on the "read it later" shelf.

The only way I can reverse a like is to dislike something. I 'favorite' to track something. In reality, I haven't favorited the story, I've put it into a bookshelf. My favorites list is very small. My likes list is much larger, but those stories that I like partway in and then end up not liking I dislike and put into my disappointments bookshelf. By the time the story ends, I'll have decided whether it should get a like, or if it should just move from my tracking bookshelf to my meh bookshelf.
I would look at favorites as just as valuable as likes in terms of interest in a story, especially with how bookshelves work, because likes will come as the story is written, the favorites are the sign that it's caught the eye of readers.

It's been that way for the whole history of the site. Doesn't make much sense to me either, but eh. I've just learned to roll with it.

Generally I don't like a story until it's complete, because the only way to revoke an upvote is to give a downvote.

My personal opinion is that a lot of people forget to hit that little like button. I know I do it all the time. I remember to hit the favorite button but I seem to forget to hit that little thumb sometimes. But that's just me. I can't speak for everyone else :twilightsheepish:

If anyone ever takes advice from me, this is what I would wish it to be.
That it matters not what others may say. What matters most is the passion you put into your work, day by day.

It says that 604 people are tracking it, but that includes having it put in any bookshelf that that lets you know when something has updated. So, it could be in that person's 'favorites' bookshelf or whatever they call it, or it could be in their tracking bookshelf which is there just to track the story. Under the current system, tracking and faving still generally have the same result as far as the stats are concerned.

I haven't liked it yet, despite putting it in my tracking bookshelf, for the same reason others have said. You can stop tracking a story easily, but you can't take away a like, and there's been stories in the past where I wish I could. I'll wait until the story has some more updates before liking.

I just don't "like" that many stories. All I do is read what's given to me. If I like the story, I track it and stick around for more. If I really like the story, like I'm looking forward to seeing it get updated or I think it's a really good one-shot, then I add it to favorites. There are some stories I give a thumbs up to, but that's kind of rare for me and only if I like it an exceptional amount, either because I enjoy it just soooo much or it does something that I don't see much on the site and it does it well.

I'm not a huge fan of liking things, im not sure i've even liked I'll always be here for you. The main reason why i haven't liked or favorited is because my read later list is 94 stories long, and i have some good sized stories on there. I'm not even sure where Snuggles and Cuddles is on the list.

The only way to unlike something is to give it a thumbs down, while tracking something can be easily undone. So until we updates, its tracked but not liked.

I only ever hit like on a story after I've finished it completely, and even then only if it stood out as a good story (though not too strictly).

I haven't liked it for a couple reasons. The main one being that I give very, very few likes. Only 12 in my three years here on fimfic. A story has to meet two requirements for me to like it; it has to be complete so I know for sure it's of good quality all the way through, and it has to emotionally effect me in some way.

I tracked the story because I'm a sucker for cute Twidash cuddling. I haven't liked it because... well being totally honest it's basically D'aw porn. It's a plot I've seen done many times before, albeit with some alterations. It's something I read for adorable fluff, and nothing more.

But that's just me. For other people, a lot of it is that they won't like until the story's complete, and also I've found many people are pretty stingy with their likes. Some people just flat out don't give them because... I dunno. They're lazy or something.

I don't give a story thumbs up until it's complete, even if it's good.

As one of the guilty parties... I tend to favorite something because I enjoyed it enough that I want to read future chapters as they come out.... but I only hit the like button after there is enough of the story there for me to feel good about endorsing it.... on the flip side, it is really hard to earn that dislike from me...

I... haven't read all the updates yet. :{ :facehoof:
But I'm going to, once it's finished! :scootangel:

Since ratings aren't a thing anymore, I save thumbs for when I'm done reading.

I thumbed it up after the first chapter and Favorited :D
The more thumbs up will hopefully let more people recognize and read it for themselves to enjoy !
However I do understand people waiting until it is completed to thumbs up the story I don't think one "bad" chapter should prevent a great story from getting a thumbs up so why not show your love and support !

I put the story in my incomplete library because well it's incomplete and i don't give thumps up/down on story's that i have not read all the way to the finish.
Once the story is complete i will give my two seance on it.

I usually wait till the story is complete, because SO many fanfics I track end up getting abandoned half way through. Hopefully that won't happen here :-)

Just give us more already! =P
That ending was so abrupt that I don't even know anymore. Maybe that is the issue, maybe you really shouldn't have left it like that. Cos as of now it screams "UNFINISHED!" so loudly that I nearly got deaf at the end of the chapter >_>

P.S. I gave it a like nonetheless.

I don't like stories until I'm sure. I fave when I want to track it, but I like it too much to just be under "Track".

I mostly only like something once it's finished.
