Merry Christmas! Here's what's been happening and where it's going.

So here's what's been happening for... well, years now. First of all, I was a grad student, trying to get a Master's Degree. I had some big up s and some decently bad downs. In addition, I was unemployed for seven months AND I live with my parents. Not exactly a good combination for free time, not having money and being hounded because of it. Then I finally managed to get a job... as a

Thinking of the past in the future

So good news, I finally finished a grueling class and managed to get an A in it, so I've got about a week or two of mostly free time (still need to find a job). So expect updates coming.

Trying to get back in the groove (Fan request)

So as you can tell I haven't written anything in a while. Life has been difficult lately, and every time I try to write I get distracted or lose interest. I don't want to let you guys down though, but I can't seem to get the motivation, at least for the stories I already have. I have so many new ideas but I don't want to work on them until I get some other things finished or at least progress

    Patreon Voting Deadline

Just so you guys know my first Patreon fanfic poll will be ending tomorrow. This is deciding which fic I will focus most of my effort on and (hopefully) finish the next chapter by the end of the month. Right now it's 2 to 2 between "Epicness" and "(Un)Dead" (so I may have to just toss a coin. Remember, $1 patrons get to vote, and $3 patrons get to look at and leave comments on the fic google doc

    Getting Down to Patreon

Some 6 month internship ended, and though I will be looking for a new job I will also be using to this free time to both get back to really working on my fan fictions and start using Patreon in earnest. As I mentioned before, I'm going to have one tier on my Patreon where Paetrons can have a look, and leave comments, on certain fanfic chapters I'm working on. So here's how this is gonna work.

Updates, Present and Future · 8:08pm Oct 21st, 2014

So, a few things. First, I've submitted my story to a few groups, and a few have submitted them to others in my stead. Some are interesting, others flattering, but recently I've had "The Mighty Warrior of Epicness" submitted to a rather interesting group:

"Absolutely Disgusting"

Now I'm not trying to incite a fight here, everyone's entitled to their opinion and the 40 some dislikes this story has gotten has proven that some dislike it, but I took a look at the credentials to the group, and I unfortunately say it fits some of them. "Lame cover art," "bad editing", things like that. Of course I'm sure some stories were submitted there because people don't like HiE stories or LoHAV/H stories (losing battle with those, I'm afraid). However, I think what surprises me most is… this group exists. There's a whole group dedicated to what people think is the worts of the worst kind of stories. I'm 25, I've seen the internet grow, and though I admit to not lurking as much as others… some things still confuse me.

Next, I'd like to thank those who faved and are still watching "My Giant Robot: Friendship is Awesome." Once I hit a certain milestone for "Epicness", I promise you I will add at least one chapter to that story. Hopefully it'll be done soon.

And speaking of that milestone, on to the future! Things are going to pick up soon in the story and I may need your suggestions on something. See very soon, right after the story hits "season 4", things are going off the rails in terms of the show's continuity. When this happens the story will be getting a bit… darker. Now it won't suddenly lose the funny, but things will get a less frivolous. What I'm going for is what I call a typical shounen formula; Make the beginning lighthearted and let the readers get to know the characters so that when shit hits the fan they actually give a damn about what's happening to them.

So, I was wondering, should I just change the tags for "Epicness" when that happens, or should I start a new fic like Thadius did for the "Headless" series? I'm kinda leaning towards the latter myself. What do you think, readers?

to be honest i am really tired of the LOHAV genre due to how cliche it has become, every fic of the genre starts the same way seems like every author wants to do crossovers and it has become kind of monotonous, cant say the same of the LOHAH (only one so far i have read and liked was this one too bad the author got emo crazy wondering how something he wrote to get out the dreaded writer block got popular enough to make it to the featured page for 5 days straight, the fact that he wrote it when the movie about was all the rage doesn't have anything to do apparently) of since there aren't that many of those out there, your fic is ok so far but gilgamesh gary stu personality is starting to grate on the nerves sorry dude but is the truth i like the fic but is kind of starting to get monotonous

TGM

Hrm.

Well as the case with the headless series, Thadius only split it up into another story when it went through a pretty major plot point( he died, and wasn't Dullahan anymore for instance) so I'd suggest that, but it's ultimately up to you.

As for what's to come I am thoroughly excited. :pinkiecrazy:

well i think for now u should keep going on the current story since usually like -TGM- said, it should be done after a major plot development. i think your history needs a little more plot going on
before considering a new story

If you go dark, it may be a good idea to make the story separate. This way if people disapprove of the direction your story goes, then they don't have to read it. But otherwise, I love your story and I can't wait to see flashbacks of Gilgameshes fights such as his final battle with the princesses, and his potential future fight with Tirek.
I'm sticking through with this story till the end!!!!!!!!:pinkiehappy:

Have you read the more recent chapters? In my opinion, Gilgamesh has gone through incredible character development in the last few alone! He went from a fight crazed lunatic to a humble protector of the good!

Just my opinion.

In response to your blog, Shinigamisparda, I think that you should do whatever feels right at the time. If it seems the story has a natural end to it at some point, call it good. If not, then keep on going. If you do get an answer I would love to know what it is, seeing as Time Ticks on is coming to a point like that pretty soon.

Golden Script

I unfortunately say it fits some of them. "Lame cover art,

WHAT! HOW DARE ANYONE SAY SUCH THINGS ABOUT THE MIGHTY GILGAMESH?!

As a way to split up the chapters in the current story, you could always make the titles overtly darker in tone. Most of your other ones have a twist on them or is directly comedic in nature (or is a list of events, but you only have a few of those). People will just subconsciously recognize that it's taking a darker theme, rather than making it a larger deal than it needs to be. Of course, if there's going to be a drastic change in plot or character line up, then I feel a second story might be in order. As it's going right now, with the introduction of a certain villain, (my guess is the Cloud of Darkness) I don't think it will require a whole 'nother story.

Personally, I think it would depend on how DRASTIC the change in tone would be. For example: Legionary's Oskar Osäker/Emerald Gleaner had a split with a huge paradigm shift, with the reveal of Emerald/Oskar's nature, and it began with Emerald letting Oskar (metaphorically) die.

If it is something big and drastic like this, then go and split (and add the Dark tag), but if it just looses some of the screwball comedy in favor of action, then keep it together. You even have precedent for comedy to serious with the crossovers, so why not just gradually shift into it. Or you could just keep up the Mood Whiplash, as Gilgamesh seems to have no problem doing it anyway (noble greeting, to blinding rage with RD, to polite encouragement to Fluttershy, to boastful posturing).

Personally, since I can't read what you haven't posted, I can't really give you my opinion one way or another, so as lame as it sounds, just go with what you think is best.

PS: I like the cover art, f*ck those naysayers who complain about nothing, there are TONS of stories way more deserving of the "Absolutely Disgusting" group than you, and you always admit and fix your editing mess ups, many don't. As they say, "Hater gonna hate", ignore the Trolls and keep on rocking. :coolphoto:

I don't know what to think, but I do think I may have detected a shameless plug in there somewhere... :trixieshiftright:

Well Just checked one of my stories sir and found it was also added to that group... It was also added to the "No Originality Brigade", "Temple of Ohgaudno", "Why", and "Overly Stupid Fanfictions"... was Mighty Warrior of Epicness also added to any of those?

2561338 My other story hasn't been added to any of the groups mentioned yet... I'm a wee bit nervous to update again as I believe that is when my story mentioned earlier got added. Well at the very least it's as you said. It's their opinion and nothing we can do will probably change that. Though I would like to know why it was added and what I could possibly do to fix it up.

2561342 Someone will always not like something about your work. It's best to ignore the haters and flamers and focus on those who like your work and those who don't but are at least willing to offer constructive criticism in return.

Well, maybe go for a few more chapters, enough to reach 100k and then do a sequel.
Makes it more, substantial.
