Ponyville Market was buzzing as it was wont to do. In one corner, Carrot Top was greeting ponies and hawking her wares, taking advantage of the fact that today was not a market day for the Apple family. On the opposite side, Roma Tomato glowered as she discovered yet another tomato that was too soft in her stock. And al around, ponies walked to and fro, gathering goods for dinner tonight or for something planned later on.
It was overall, a normal day. Which was why it was a surprise for everypony when it suddenly took a sharp left into bizarre.
A pair of cheering voices could be heard quickly approaching. A pony or two rolled their eyes as they recognized the voice as Pinkie Pie. Then some others raised eyebrows when they realized that BOTH voices sounded just like Pinkie Pie.
And then suddenly, barreling through the middle of the marketplace, came a strange creature with a pony on her shoulders. They both shared the same hair and bright blue eyes, though while one wore a shirt of pink, the other's natural coat matched the color exactly. They dashed through the market joyfully, heedless of the staring and gawking ponies around them, as they whooped with laughter. With such long strides, it didn't take long for the tall one to finish crossing the plaza, leaving the marketplace behind.
Colts and fillies alike stood shock-still, looking at each other at what had just happened... when another stampede of footfalls came back down the street again. Everypony looked just in time to see five more of the bipedal beings running into the market, hot on the trail of the pink ones, with panicked looks on their faces.
One of the five spoke, a being with long dark purple locks and a pink stripe. "Diane! Get back here! Don't let them get away!"
Just as quickly as they'd arrived, they left, still running at full tilt. Another pall of silence reigned for a short time, before a galloping set of hoofsteps appeared down the street from whence they came.
Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Twilight Sparkle all suddenly exploded into the market, also hot on the trail of the previous two groups. "Pinkie! Get back here!" Twilight called out. "Don't let them get away!"
After their passing, many of the shopkeepers traded hallow looks to each other, unbelieving of what they'd just witnessed. Berry Punch was quick to grab a bottle of wine from her stock, pop the top, and begin gulping it down. A colt dared to take a step towards the exit of the marketplace...
And it was then when a certain green unicorn came barreling through the area, running and following the previous groups clumsily on her hindlegs as her forelimbs waved in the air, a goofy smile on her face as she yelled "THEY'RE REEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!"
A few seconds after she left, a breathless BonBon galloped past everyone as called out "Lyra, come back!"
YAY.
Bwahahaha.
I enjoy the prospect of this idea.
