At last! The secret project I have been slowly building in my basement all this time has a last come to fruition! Behold! Firefly: Whole New Verse
It is the first in a series of stories (akin to Loyal2Luna's Doctor Whooves series) but instead of the characters of Firefly and MLP meeting each other, their worlds and people have been fused together (akin to Fallout Equestria). Each story, or 'episode' should be relatively short, but I've got about ten or twelve of them planned total. Now, before anybody panics and thinks I'm dropping everything for this series, it will be a side project. I noticed while writing 'False Masks' that I got bored writing nothing but Dresden and needed various side projects to keep my interest in writing up and prevent myself from being burnt out. While it is a side project I hope/plan to have semi-regular updates, helped by the fact that the chapters are shorter.
Speaking of Dresden, though, here in all it's shining glory is the Cover Image for 'The Dresden Fillies: Great Power' coming this fall to a Fimfiction near you!

By the cover art, it looks like Dresden's friends in Equestria are coming to Chicago. I'm sure that won't cause any trouble whatsoever! Harry's popularity with all sorts of incredibly powerful creatures should keep them away from harm.

Have you read anything by Brandon Sanderson? Great author. Anyway, after/during every book he writes he starts writing a book from a different series/universe whatever, to help him avoid getting burnt out on the on the one series. Makes perfect sense to me to take a break and write other things. I wouldn't even mind if you took breaks during the last Dresden Fillies story to write short stories in other 'verses.

That cover art has me very excited for the next Dresden story, although I am not terribly interested in the fusion thing. I feel like Firefly is like MLP in that the value lies in the characters more than the setting, so dropping the canon characters makes the story much less interesting to me. I have thrown it on my read later list anyways, but there is no telling if or when I will actually read it.

As for the Firefly adaptation, well I don't really like adaptations. I pretty much read FiMfics for the FiM canon characters and settings. I pretty much read stuff like adventures, crossovers, and HiE because of the novelty of these chatacters displaced to that setting and reacting to those characters and the repercussions on FiM continuity.
I am wondering if a balance couldn't have been struck where Equestria is Earth in a ponified Firefly universe. So it is the distinct characters and settings interacting but both verses are canon?
Oh well. I will probably enjoy reading this even though I found Firefly to be unacceptably boring to my taste. And I haven't hated every adaptation I've read. I trust yours, like the ones I liked, are fair to the characters and balance their new roles well.
Firefly is far from the only show I have felt could take a Mane 6 pallet swap well.

Like some above me stated, I'm not one for fusion. I love FoE because the characters she wrote and the way she twisted MLP to end up like FoE - we're not following Twilight-as-the Vault Dweller, we're following a pony-Vault Dweller learning about how the Twilight and Rarity and Fluttershy we know and love ended up birthing the FoE world. That sort of situation would not necessarily work with Firefly. If I remember correctly, the Firefly universe had very little call-back to the 'old world' of Earth save a few mentions here and there where-as the Fallout world has a ton of exploratory options for finding out about 'ya olde world.'
I don't see a fusion working as quite the same here. Either it's be the main six in Firefly or it would be 'oc ponies in space.' I'd give it a go but it would be a different feel than FoE - in fact, most fusions have a different feel because they tend to be 'oc ponies in X' as opposed to the FoE world that was so successful.
I think I've rambled on enough though.

See, FoE changed things about the canon universe to facilitate the setting portion of the adaptation and used OCs to adapt the characters.
There is a Star Trek adaptation/crossover where Equestrian history was altered by an early-Federation ship crashing into Equestria. The show still happened, just with theis background of technological development and the mane 6's priorities in life being shifted to Space Travel and ponies are an alien race in the Star Trek universe.
But with this adaptation, we are basically pallet swapping FiM onto the Firefly template, but also replacing the Firefly characters with the FiM cast. It is an entirely new product and must succeed on its own merit since it loses much of what is primarily sought in this genre: fanfiction about the canon settings and characters of FiM.
This is not a complaint, mind you. A story is a story. Just my assessment of the comparative purity of adaptation methods.

Not really. It was just written before the majority of Season 2, which inevitably makes it incompatible with later stuff said in the series. As far as I can see, Kkat didn't change anything about the canon universe; she just filled in then then-blanks with factors that could lead to FO:E

Hmm, yes. What I mean was that she started with the canon continuity of the show and then adjusted things progressively to arrive at a global holocaust. S1 essentially still happened. She only used worldbuilding to arrive at the eventual outcome she wanted, rather than revising the whole universe from scratch.

The show is high-fantasy with a heavy dose of Norse and other mythology, folklore, and superstition. It is also random comedy with plenty of cartoon logic and physics. And a little bit of sci-fi. It's also a show about realistic role models for little girls and therefor involves a hefty dose of excessive danger and heroics.
If it's not too bold to ask, at approximately what point In The Dresden Files canon will Great Power be starting? Again, I ask only if the telling of such will not give away too much.

I have read everything by Brandon Sanderson (except for his Wheel of Time books, but I'm working my way through the series). He is an excellent author, second only to Jim Butcher in my opinion. Anyway, yes, I know he does. Which is not just a good tool to keep from getting burnt out, but it also serves the purpose of pleasing different parts of his fanbase, and never focusing solely on one group.
Chuckle, glad to hear it. I probably will write other stuff concurrently with the next Dresden Fillies, but I doubt I will take a hiatus specifically for that purpose.

As it is, I am going to read it and basically poke you with a stick whenever you start making the classic PoE mistakes. I mean I've seen good stories fall down the tubes because of said cliches and ever since that ATBC chapter, I've realized every author can make mistakes if they underestimate things.

2560970 Oh lord, I have a shopping list of these. Let's see. Rule of thumb is that many of these are the same as HiE only reversed for ponies. Shipping once the same species, being boarded at the human's home (somewhat forgivable in some instances), eating meat and antics about this.
One thing I find too many crossovers do is play one-side (usually ponies) as far stronger than normal and downplay the other universe so the ponies are effectively on the level. I remember one Halo crossover where Big Macintosh was able to kill two Brutes in close quarters combat. A pony who spends his life as a farmer was able to beat to death two 9 foot 2 space, half ton space gorillas who are actually stronger than an augmented human in powered armor. That kind of bullshit is not cool as it effectively disrespects the source material and you've already fallen to this somewhat by equating Luna and Celestia to the likes of Mab and Titania when neither has really shown their stuff. Except when they got kidnapped by vines and Celestia got shot down by Chrysalis in a beam o' war that she started.
Oh and the asshole human cliche that basically has the human showing the pony that not all humans are bad ie himself. And the humans are murderous monsters as a whole cliche (It occurs to me that bronies in general seem to hate the fact they weren't born with multiple stomachs and hooves).
Damn, I have several questions and yet you seem to be rather quiet.

I am curious, though., Where would the ponies room if not with one of the humans they make contact with? Are you suggesting they get put up in a hotel?
