In Regards to the "I'll Always be Here for You" Sequel · 3:28pm Apr 25th, 2014

Hey everyone, I just want to know, would you guys want two separate stories or one big one? I don't mind either way, as there are obvious pros and cons for both. I'd love to hear what you guys think about this issue.

It's hard to say really, I want to say one big story.

How about 9001 HUGE stories?

I don't see you achieving any sort of major splitting point which would require you to split off for a sequel anytime soon, to be honest. If anything, another arc to the main story would work just fine, unless you look to have a massive shift in, well, everything.

2045664 It wouldn't be anytime soon, yes. The end for this story is still 14-18 chapters away.

[THINKING MODE ACTIVATE]
some people might not like reading looooong stories, and may be put off by simply looking at the chapter/word count, so for those people it would give them a breaking point, splitting it up into more manageable chunks. I'm sooooorta like this, i won't start reading a story with a million chapters unless i have the free time to sit down and read the whole thing in one sitting(or as few sittings as possible anyway), but then there are people who think the opposite, but separating them wouldn't really affect those other people, probably? *shrug*
it also depends on how much you separate them, like time frame, for example, if the sequel happens much later, although you could simply display the split in the chapter titles.. hmm, I dunno.
I think.. maybe.. do split? Remember the feature where you can give it the same ID so it'll be linked and everything, that'll make things easy for peeps already keeping up. so i don't think splitting would really have any negative effects.
The only reason i can see for not splitting it is to show off the word/chapter count
But hey why should my opinion matter, I'm not even a writer :unsuresweetie: I'm an illustrator~ :yay:

If you get to a point that would make for a good split, split it. Otherwise, don't bother.

If there's a major time skip where you need to basically redesign the setting and present it all over again, make a separate story as a sequel.

If, however, it's practically the next day or something like that, where nothing major has changed between end 1 and beginning 2, then make a second story arc in the same story.

I think the largest reason to separate a story into story and sequel is plot :rainbowlaugh:
:ajbemused: Okay, enough of that. Anyway, what would the second's story plot be about and how much more different is it from the original that you feel it may need to be broken up? For example, Pen Stroke's "Past Sins" is a huge story, but the plot is generally the same. He (she?) didn't divide it up into "Past Sins: Nightmare Foal", "Past Sins: The Night is Reborn" and/or "Past Sins: Guardian of her Night" despite the size because the plot and main conflict were generally the same. However, a story like "Nyx's Family" by Reality Check (in my opinion) should have been divided into separate stories because of the dramatic changes in plot. I don't think you should divide it up if the second is just catching a cliffhanger. This is just my opinion and what I think is important. If it sounds harsh, it's because this story is fucking excellent and I don't wanna see it lose my respect.
Good Luck in whatever choice you make!:pinkiehappy: Always looking forward to your next thing

It really depends on how you are writing the story
For example,
Wintergreen Diaries wrote some pretty long stories but none of them had arcs with the way they were written.
In contrast, bats wrote a 77k story but had three arcs in it.
If you plan on making a sequel, then the audience would expect a major shift or different plot line. Think about how you planned the story and decide from there. Either way I'm looking forward to more chapters :pinkiehappy:

gwg

It depends on how you write it. If in your plot, there is a clear cutting off point where readers wouldn't be upset that you ended the first story there, but you have enough that another story can be written, then go for it. If there is no clear cut between this and the sequel, then you might want to stick with a long story.

I would think it should be one large story. My reasoning is, I don't know about every one else, but I am also really into this story, and I don't want there to be a cutting off point in the story. (I know that sound really selfish) I don't know about you but I like to have a very long interesting read rather than a few shorter stories(unless it is a horror story) but In all reality you should do whatever is best and easiest for you, being the author of the story.

I'll take one large story with a side of fries and a drink please, Mr. Abyss :3

i  this story. it got me hooked onto scootadopt. i read it 5 times already and i hope it is 100 chpters long and is awsome. looking forward to an update.

I don't care either way. You've done awesomely so far, so i trust you to pick the best direction to take it in :pinkiehappy:

I am not going to bother to come up with reasoning. I just want a big one!

I think splitting it would probably be better. Supermassive stories sometimes scare people away, and we get just as much story anyway. Additionally, since you can tag multiple sequels to a single story, It opens up opportunities for mid-storyline side stories.

(Disclaimer: I actually like supermassive stories. If a story is over 500K words, I'll probably give the first chapter a peek just in case it's something I can sink several days into)

I like giant nuke(big) stories.

While I'm not one for really long stories normally, but I've really enjoyed Good Things Come and Wishing Well (both of which are quite long) I think it would best to finish the story as is and them move on to a true sequel on it's time.

IMHO One enormous story.
:twilightsmile::heart::rainbowkiss:

One large story with a side of extra-large feels please. Oh and a coke to drink.:trollestia:

depends on what you are doing with it. if it is all within the same timeline then keep it one story. if there is a skip of considerable time, like years, then ndivide it.

long story maybe with the acts labeled clearly :D

SHL

One story :pinkiehappy:

You do what feels right, but I'm leaning towards one story.

One... Giant... Story.. *huff gets my breath* please.

I'm leaning toward one long story, especially with the way you've been going with small bits of development each chapter. If you have a point where things are mostly resolved and you do a time-skip of more than a few months that could make a good break for splitting the story though.

The way the story is set up at the moment, It seems to me that one story would be the better route. Side stories of scootaloo's past (in-depth) maybe, but one story for the main plot
