All thanks to a fic about Death Darkness, the red and black alicorn.
Death Darkness, the black and red alicorn! I started the fic with the biggest cliche of them all, just because it made me giggle for Pete's sake!
Don't get me wrong, I'm utterly blown away and flattered by how many are seemingly enjoying the adventures of Death Darkness... just rather baffled about the why and how of it all.
It's just that it currently feels a bit as if I'm getting patted on the head for having drawn mustaches on all the painting in the building, and people are stopping and complimenting how much it adds to the art of it all. Awesome, but I keep just getting this feel I'm either in the Twilight Zone or the whole site is trolling me.

I think I know why do you feel this way! Because your Fic isn't a serious one, and that would mean that you subconsciously labeled it as a Crack-Fic.
The reason for your success is simple. You have a well executed plot that has enough self awareness to be entertaining and your technical writing skills are good enough to make it nice to read.
It doesn't matter how saturated a genre is, or how supposedly cliche your characters are: execute your plot believably and entertainingly and you will get up voted.
In fact because you are writing a satire, the cliches you're using go into your favor. Instead of playing it straight and trying to believably write a dangerously genre savvy Mary sue human in Equestria, you're poking fun at it! That's good satire, and it makes for a fun read.

Also, I'd like to add that Ironic isn't just a satire; even if red'n black alicorn OCs were almost impossible to find, Ironic would still stand as a good story (though it likely wouldn't get the attention it's gotten). Your story is a human in Equestria story about an outsider who's been given a large amount of power and how both s/he and Equestria's inhabitants react. Its status as a satire is secondary.

Haven't abandoned a fic yet.
Sometimes they just reach 'that which is dead may eternal lay, and with strange eons even death may die' levels of time between updates.
HF isn't in that pile (at the moment) but as I've mentioned, I was ill the whole week that passed and didn't trust myself with what I'd considered serious writing.
I just wrote Ironic as a way to amuse myself. I was honestly debating if I should even post it, but since it amused me I thought one or two of my readers might find it amusing as well.
...Yeah, not quite what happened.

I think I'm above either joke that comes to mind, however.
1939250 It is a good joke, though. Personally, I'm inclined towards Vinyl... Instrumental's are core to music, a song sounds better with the bulk being natural instruments.
