Allow me to apologize for the Scootabuse · 8:39pm Feb 12th, 2014

I've finally finished my 'apology' for the Scootabuse in One in a Million.

Hopefully I can make it up to all of you with a nice, feel-good story about good things happening to Scootaloo. And don't worry, as I'm prone to doing, I've put in a bit of a twist on it, but Scootaloo will still have a good day! I think I owe it to her!

So, if you'd like to see me be nice to Scoots for once, head on over and give it a read!

While it's certainly full of trials and hardship, One in a Million never felt like it was abuse for the sake of abuse. There was a journey that made sense that ended up in a successful and meaningful resolution. *grumbles about sudden story shifts and decapitated heads from another story*

As much as I appreciate the effort on a new story, I'm still holding out hope for a real sequel.:rainbowdetermined2:

What, it's not like you made a story called "Scootaloo and the Wood Chipper." (No, I'm not googling that title to see if it's been used. No.)

Don't worry; I had a quick look, and it doesn't seem to be a real fic.

... yet.

That wasn't scootabuse -- she had a semi-painful weeklong training montage with great results.

I don't quite understand how One in a Million is considered Scootabuse. Sure, she was bullied, but it was completely warranted (bratty kids will be bratty kids, and its right to doubt a pegasus's ability to do magic), and even then she still had allies. Scootabuse is physical and feloniously severe torture, just for the sake of it being there. I don't really think you need to apologize for an amazing story, but hey, to each his own.

Pffft. I'm a fan of Scootabuse. I've written Scootabuse. I know Scootabuse. And that, sir, was Scootawesome.

I liked the story, quite a bit. I'd love to see a sequel. And an epilogue where she Sonic Scootabooms in Rainbow's face just for the lulz.

That was Scootabuse? Who's calling that Scootabuse? I don't think they know what Scootabuse means.

you have to appologize for a good story? what has the world come to?

my single gripe is the ending tie up but even that is arguably better than my expectations in some ways.

so the lesson we should all learn from scootabuse haters is that you should never have bad luck and if you do you should never have to deal with it in a realistic way but rather someone should swoop in and save you from any character development lest you actually grow through some realistic obstacle such as racism or unfair expectations. because that is always the lesson behind MLP:FIM right? everything is awesome and nobody ever has problems.

idiots.

sorry, scratch that. they are entitled to their opinions. I can understand someone not wanting to read a story where a character has a rough lot and doesent end up magically become ruler of the universe, but that is no reflection on the author's (*cough* fantastic *cough*) story writing. and certainly isnt something they should apologize for.

okay. desire to rant sated. thoughts?

Don't worry man, the story was very good in that way and the bad ponies got what they deserve :pinkiehappy: It isn't a real dark Scootabuse, is only a real story of certain places.

One In A Million was dreary to a depressing degree. All downs, no ups, every ray of hope turns sour, and in the end, the antagonists get their comeupance from outside with basically no participation from Scootaloo.

Still not really 'scootabuse' though.

Wait, people thought that fic was Scootabuse? :ajbemused:

I've read far worse, and really, you depicted racial bullying/apathy/condescension; I wouldn't call it scootabuse! She was persecuted for being a pegasus in a 'clearly unicorn' world, looked down upon and trodden upon.

Not because she was Scootaloo, but because she was a pegasus. How can people not see the difference?

It was a goddamned brilliant story, as depressing as it was whilst reading it; don't let them get you down bro/sis/gender-inspecific-term-of-siblinghoodness.

The sequel is being worked on by a couple other authors.
From what I've seen so far, it's going to be a huge, ambitious fic.

Well, the term 'scootabuse' was thrown around in the comment section there a few times, though I personally agree that while it was depressing and enraging, it wasn't scootabuse.

At any rate, I've done a lot of bad things to Scoots; it's time I did something good. :scootangel:

Thank the IPU!

Well, I don't have to apologize, but I want to!

Thanks! I hope you enjoy this one, then!

I require more scootabuse.... break her scooter next muhahahahahahaha

1828628
Hm... nah.
:trixieshiftleft: I've had enough of that for now.

I'm sure there's lots of other authors on fimfic who would oblige, though.... just search for the Scootaloo character tag along with the 'dark' tag. :trollestia:

I meant somewhere along the lines of tossing eggs at her and her breaking her scooter or something... not something violent :O

I really don't think you need to apologize for your story.

Though I do think the ending didn't quite feel......complete. I mean here at the end we have a scene where Princess Celestia turns out to have recruited one of the school's cafeteria workers to spy on the faculty, then it stops there.

It would've been nice to see what happened to the faculty from the decisions they made (ignoring/encouraging students being bullied or bullying students themselves, subtly encouraging unicorn supremecy over lesser ponies, showing favoritism towards family or such, etc, etc).

(Something else to consider, was Scootaloo the only magical non-unicorn sent to that school? If not then could the teaching staff been looking at ways to discredit Sound Theory or her book to prevent others like her from coming?)

It would've also been interesting to see what happened to the students that were actively bullying Scootaloo.

For instance River claims she just wanted to impress her older sister Trixie, if that is true then how would Trixie react to her little sisters actions considering her own past and the way she's trying to turn her life around. On a different note how will the other students act towards her now (especially any others she might have bullied or led in bullying).

Then there's Ruby, who's real story we don't exactly know. Is he a bully and a compulsive liar or was he similar to Babs Seed and bullied Scootaloo to avoid being bullied himself? How has this effected him (especially if the second possibility is true)?

And now that Whisper doesn't have to be Rivers live-in-servant how will she change.

Cookie Cutter is now known to be Celestia's spy in the school so how will the other faculty and students treat him, will he even get to keep his job?

And on a different note how would the Griffin's react to a magical pegasus since the last one appeared during hostilities between Equetrians and Griffins?

Something else to consider is how the story could have turned out differently (i.e. the ever popular/feared "What if?").

For instance what if Scootaloo was failed because of the damage her stunt did to the school, the danger it put all the students and faculty in or because a "Sonic Rainboom" is exclusively a pegasus trick and doesn't count for the exam.

Or what if the bullying got much worse, to the point where after leaving school Scootaloo swears she'll never use her magic again so she'll never have to attend another magical school again.

Or what if the letter Scootaloo tried to send to Twilight never reached her but was intercepted by whatever wards/spells/etc the school staff use to monitor/prevent students from using magic outside of class.

What if Scootaloo was thrown out of the school only to be accepted by a rival school and become it's star pupil, much to the CSfGU Staff's displeasure when news reporters find out Scootaloo was thrown out of CSfGU for X reason. Or if it turns out that either the CSfGU or the rival school were where Razor Wing learned to use his magic (it'd be ironic if it was CSfGU). I had a vague idea for an omake using this idea where Scootaloo gets accepted to the Crystal Empire's school of magic and as Celestia is explaining this to the dean of CSfGU she idly mentions how his schools budget will be cut (cue spit-take) to help bring the Crystal Empires school up to date since that was one of the conditions of the treaties she signed with Cadence.

[CSfGU = Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns]

Heh, wow... that's a whole lotta stuff to work on. :twilightoops:

Here's to hoping the sequel addresses some of these! :yay:

:rainbowlaugh: If you thought that was Scootabuse... You've. Seen. Nothing.

I wish that they allowed us to link to NSFW stories. If they did, I could show you what I've edited as of late. Now that's REAL fucked up bad.:trollestia:
Nonetheless, no one ever needs to apologize for a story. Stories are stories. Like 'em, hate 'em; they have a right to exist independent of their intended impact, or popular opinion. dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/Emoticons/misc_Lyra_dealwithit.png

:facehoof: Sorry, sometimes I tend to go on and on when a thought hits me (now if I could only figure out where they're getting those Cricket bats from!).

Though I am looking forward to reading the sequel!

That Scootabuse is completely forgivable considering it was sorta required for her personal growth.

Well, yeah, I don't need to apologize for it... but I want to.

You and me both.

Well, yeah, but still, I want to make it up to people! :scootangel:
