Just a heads up. Unless it is specifically addressed in canon, I will be ignoring this in both Regent and all future fanfics. Her immortality probably won't be a factor in future stories but I just want to be careful. Why ignore it? Aside from the obvious issues with Regent,
1) It makes things an absolute nightmare trying to come up with alicorn mythology.
2) It destroys some decent fanfic ideas.
3) I want to be able to say I'm ignoring something.
On the bright side, this'll shut up the anti-Twilicorn people who are continuing to be butthurt over Twilicorn.
Notice how she doesn't say Twilight isn't immortal, only that she won't outlive her friends. Mane Six alicorns confirmed.
Or they go about making the others immortal because toys. You never know with them!

Not a chance. Opinions from the staff don't mean anything, tweets even less. It's not canon unless it's actually in the show. And all the random tweets in the world change absolutely nothing about the problems people have with the Twilicorn idea.
I suspect that what this actually means is "The show will never have a 'Twilight outlives her friends' episode," which still leaves the question open.
Maybe she won't outlive her friends because ALL HER FRIENDS WILL BECOME ALICORNS!!!

1008746 I still watch the show for the awesome feats of animation. Most of the stories are lacking because of time constraints, but I have high hopes for season 4 if it lives up to the Meghan's hype. (e.g. her proclamations of season 4 being very ambitious)
I've always had in my mind that the elements of Harmony have chosen their bearers and will never let go. so I think the entire mane 6 are here to stay. xD
I'm more curious as to why you thought you needed to announce this. Most people don't take their canon from Twitter.

They don't need to make Twilight die young or make the others immortal for this to be true- they simply have to not address it in canon, ever, which is exactly what they would have done anyway. Heck, Granny Smith is gonna live just as long as the rest of them as far as the show's concerned.

Theory 1: Take it at face value. Twilight is not immortal.
Theory 2: Loophole. Twilight is immortal, but the rest of her friends will become alicorns, too.
Theory 3: Loophole again. Twilight is immortal, but so are all other ponies. Except for those who aren't.
Theory 4: Cockatrice attack. The main six will be made immortal, but as stone statues.
Theory 5: Darker and edgier. Twilight will be killed off before the finale.
Theory 6: Something completely off the wall. It turns out none of them were alive in the first place.
If they do turn into alicorns, I'm guessing it has something to do with the elements of harmony (well, duh, but more specifically). My guess is that they have to use them, and Twilight being an alicorn and channeling their harmonic power reverberates out and turns them all into alicorns.

Let's assume that Twilicorn and Cadence are not "Alicorn" alicorns but just winged unicorns. They both received wings by permatransformation spell and that is all.
The way it came off for me was that, in the show itself, she wouldn't outlive her friends. Which should have been obvious from the start. We'll likely never see an episode where any of the mane six are old or dead. This doesn't imply that Twi won't have an alicorn's lifespan(whatever that really is). because, as I said, we'll probably never get that far in to the future in the show.
As far as I'm concerned, immortal Twi is safe. It's fanfic territory anyway.

Let's settle this debate once and for all.
1. The only immortal alicorns are Celestia and Luna as indicated by their free flowing manes and tails.
2. Twilight and Cadence may have extended lifespans but nothing else and will die like any other mortally born pony.
3. Hasbro will have officially jumped the shark if they force the show's staff to make the rest of the Mane 6 alicorns.

Best theory I have about this.
Immortality only applies to those who are born as Alicorns.
To any fanfiction that doesn't apply that, it's an easy fix. An added element of the spell may or may not have added immortality.
This can especially go for you, xTSGx. Since the spell in this canon was likely not the planned ascention spell by Starswirl or probably an altered version of it, the one that has affected Twilight includes immortality. There can be more than one version of ascention.
Problem solved.
See? It wasn't that hard. I like analyzations a lot, but you people thought so much into this that you forgot the easier and clearer solutions.
