Cadance of Cloudsdale (so far) now in Spanish!

Thanks to the generous SPANIARD KIWI, the text of Cadance of Cloudsdale so far is now in Spanish! Mr. Kiwi has done a tremendous amount of work translating many of my stories into Spanish, but this goes above and beyond. If you're curious, you may visit the project so far here at this

    Happy Cadance Day 2024!

Things feel a bit subdued today, due to the coincidence of Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday through a quirk of the liturgical calendar. It is somewhat difficult to juxtapose the splash of corporate-encouraged love with the festival that literally exists to remind us of our mortality. The pink of Valentine's washes against the purple of Lent. So I'm in a pensive mood, more so than usual on this

    Ciderfest is a wrap!

Just got home from PVCF and it was an amazing con experience! The minific-based ARG that circulated around the con the whole weekend was high-concept, and I was worried about engagement, but everyone seemed to really get into searching out the hard-to-find stories concealed around the convention hall (in places as obscure as "the desktop wallpaper on one of the monitors in the video game room,

Very nice!

Oh, damn, that's nice. :rainbowderp:

Yep, that's... really cool! :pinkiehappy:

Pretty cool, but I got a quick question. Why is it that any time a piece of pony art has boots in it, the boots have toes?

985742
The same reason pony oven mitts have thumbs on them, dearie.

985744
Wait, really? Which episode?

985762
Well, I had thought that you could see thumbs on A.J.'s oven mitts during the wedding preparation episode, but those could just be folds. Okay, even if those really were just padded hoofsocks, let us talk about the design of "scissors". Contemplate the handle on Rarity's sewing shears.

985778
Yeah, the scissors really doesn't make much sense. Then again, I guess there are a lot of little things that don't make sense when you stop and think about it, like saddles being casual clothing or the way sunglasses are shaped.

985817
Saddles actually do make sense: They started out as simple pads or blankets to help ponies carry stuff on their backs, and then as time passed and fashion changed they gradually became less functional and more decorative. Like how denim jeans started out as heavy-duty work pants, and now you can get them in all kinds of styles.
For other stuff like scissors, I usually assume that ponies don't actually use human-style scissors; the documentary crew edits those in in post, for narrative convenience and because pony scissors wouldn't be recognizable as scissors and they'd have to stop the story and explain things even though it's not really relevant and etc etc etc.

If I recall correctly, AJ's boots for her gala dress had toes on them too.

985778or you could just go with the classic "it's ponies; I don't gotta explain s:yay:t" reasoning. It's a minor enough detail for it to work.

Gosh, a blog post just for my little picture? :twilightblush:

985910
You do recall correctly, AJ's rigorously specified dress contained galoshes, with toes, and the dress she actually wore to the gala had something akin to what I used here. Cowboy boots, with toes. Which reminds me, there were supposed to be spurs on those. Three iterations and I still can't follow the description properly. :facehoof:

985964
I'm fairly certain Faust would disagree with you there. She's gone on record in the past saying that she pushed the design team to consider pony ergonomics when designing props. This led to the saddle-umbrella, among other things.

However, those are guidelines for practical items in the pony world. Dress boots are a fashion statement, and fashion is demonstrably not bound by any constraints of practicality or sense. If pop stars can prance about on stage wearing raw meat, then ponies can wear boots with toes.

*Goes to finally read Contraptionology.*
*Realize I have read everything Skywriter has written save for Contraptionolgy, it's prequel, and one other."
