One Year · 9:10am Mar 6th, 2013

I've been running around on this site for a year, now. Odd, that. It doesn't feel like it's been a year. It feels far shorter, yet at times, it also feels far longer.

Still, I remember when we had a word counter on our pages. I remember when it showed the three genres we'd viewed the most on our pages. I remember when Poultron made all the site blogs. I remember when the feature box was five stories only. And through my rose-colored glasses, I can say with 100% certainty that the feature box wasn't all that bad way back when. I remember when device heretic was still around. I remember when Background Pony started and Anthropology finished. I remember Wanderer D's first How-To blog. I remember the reign of 502fiction.

It's a wonderful place.

And now, here I am, a year later, making my first blog. You see, I had resolved to not write a blog until I finally published a story. It was a silly little thing, but I'm a stubborn fellow. I held to that for quite some time, as I'm sure you've noticed thanks to the complete lack of blogs. But I finally caved. For a site as big as this one that's not yet two years old, being around for a year is a big deal. It makes me old.

"GET TO THE POINT ALREADY!"

It also makes me a lazy bum. I've been here one whole year and don't have a single story to show for it. Not a one. Granted, there are other things I've been doing around here, but with the number of ideas running through my head, you'd think one of them would have found its way through the keyboard and onto the web. Well, you thought wrong.

My typical writing sessions.

Fortunately for you (or, perhaps, unfortunately), spring break is next week. And I've decided that I am going to finish a story over break. It's going to happen. Knowing me, it probably won't, but perhaps this is the motivation I've been lacking. This could very well be the jumpstart I need to start writing furiously. Or, maybe, nothing will happen, and another year will go by without a single story written.

Refer to the previous gif.

And since I've already set myself up for a spectacular (but perhaps hilarious) failure, have a preview:

I wasn't always such a shy pony.

If this doesn't get me motivated, I don't know what will. Oh well. Crashing and burning is always fun.

This is what awaits me during spring break. Sweet, wonderful failure.

Hopefully the next time you hear from me is the terrible joyous news that I've managed to do the impossible and write a story. Hopefully. Maybe. Probably not.

Because it's awesome.

Cheers.

I'm sorry, it's your first blog post. Someone had to rush in for the first post.

But in all honesty, welcome to the 1 year club. Many happy returns.

Poor excuse is better than no excuse? Besides you should be thankful I got first rather than second, that one comes with an image

But as you can tell, I like images. Images are cool.

"Chromoshy"... the story of how Flutterguy embraced her innate femininity.

894003
I don't have a proper response to this, so have a thingy:

894003 Flutterguy from Cutie Art Crusaders? The Tumblr? Or just a general story pitch?

On totally related note,
global3.memecdn.com/no-homo_o_740794.jpg
Flutterguy has the cutest voice on that podcast. Fluttershy reborn a male? More likely than you think! :twilightoops:

894005 Maybe if you spent less time gene splicing various critters, you'd a had a story out by now! :raritydespair:
Best of luck on whatever you plan on dishing out, I'll be sure to give it priority whenever you finish it up!
Best of luck[another exclamation point] :yay:

I'll definitely give it a shot if and when it comes out. Have fun on your break otherwise!

in 2 days ill have a year too

You're writing a story? This pleases me greatly. :pinkiecrazy:
I shalls read it!

I remember when the feature box was five stories only. And through my rose-colored glasses, I can say with 100% certainty that the feature box wasn't all that bad way back when.

Ah...yes. I remember that too. I wish they still had the 502fiction banner somewhere. lol.

Happy 1 year!

I remember when we had star ratings instead of thumbs, and I remember when the Featured box was completely and utterly broken as shit.:rainbowlaugh: And I still got in it, somehow, for like two hours. I remember... What was it, 'Two's company, three's a crowd?' And some other fic by CoffeeGrunt that just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I remember writing my story three times, and I'm going to write it again fairly soon.

SQUAAAAAAAAAAAAAREEEED. One year, wow.

*hugs squared*

:rainbowkiss:

Also, it's always Christmas yo'.

Hey! Gene-splicing is great fun! :pinkiecrazy:

894035
I think I might have died if this break wasn't coming up. :applejackunsure:

894064
Nice!

894065
I think I'm supposed to scared... :unsuresweetie:

894100
502fiction banner is best banner.

894121
I think I showed up very close to the switch. I saw lots of star ratings for stories, but I couldn't rate them with stars myself. I only had thumbs at my disposal. The stars vanished after a couple weeks, though.

894140

Also, it's always Christmas yo'.

All day, erryday.

894188

No kidding. Even out of school I take small vacation breaks when I can.

The site has changed greatly, hasn't it? From what I'm reading in the comments written by y'all early fimficers(?), there is much to miss. Hopefully this next year will continue to stay positive.

894188
As someone who was on this site for a really long time without writing anything (I think it was 6 or 7 months I believe), writing and actually publishing the first story is always the hardest. Hell, I basically had a panic attack when I published my first story. But good news is that it wasn't bombed with dislikes (first chapter still sucks though :twilightsheepish:). So with all your expertise and knowledge of what's good and bad about stories, I'm sure your first story will be a hit! :pinkiehappy:

894201

The site has changed greatly, hasn't it?

No kidding. I actually kinda miss the angry Poultron blogs. At least those had some substance to them. Now, most site blogs like those are short and largely uninformative.

y'all early fimficers(?)

Me, early? Psh. If I were early, I'd have been here a few weeks longer.

As a sidenote, I dug through the old site news archive a while back. A lot of real interesting stuff happened during the first half year of this site's existence. And I missed all that, which makes me sad. I like trips down Memory Lane. They're quite fun.

894209
That was more in reference to the fact that a sponge is going to be reading what I write. I feel obligated to be scared about this :pinkiecrazy:

But in all seriousness, I just need to buckle down and write. If I do that, words will flow and stories will be published. And then all shall be well in the world. Or it'll explode. Either way.

my favorite helicorpricorn

It makes ME feel old when people who were on the site for less time than me hit their FIMFic anniversary. And you didn't even need to write a story to make your mark.

894226
Who needs stories when you can admin for a bunch of high-profile groups? :scootangel:

894209 894214

Heh, the first story. I'm only just now starting to write something that I've been fleshing out for a while now. One day, maybe.

Yeah, much has changed in the little time I've been here. Although, I suffer from memory problems so I can't actually recall much of what it was like when I joined. I only remember members, or events, like Device Heretic because one of his stories is on my userpage. :derpytongue2:

E: I also meant to add that I'm likely to check out your stories, RainbowBob.

894228 I'd have said the same before September. Just swap "high-profile groups" with "riffs..." though I was still in the TWE by then.

894244
The device heretic saga was very interesting. I missed half of it because some of the blogs were gone by the time I got on. It was a very strange thing to watch unfold.

894246
And then you got featured. It's a wonderful plan, eh? :raritywink:

One day, when 'I was around while Austraeoh was still being written' will make you old, you'll look back at this blog and drown in all the nostalgia.

894224 also why xmas hat jw

Welcome to the one-year club.

894261
Oh gosh. What have you done? The nostalgia will be overwhelming!

894265
It's a wonderful club.

894255

What gets to me is that some authors have been disappearing, while either quietly, through scandal, or attack, and with them comes the knowledge that they're likely gone for good.

One such author is Sapidus3 who wrote Equestria's Twilight and has been missing for quite a while now. Similar to him is Larathin Bradley.

But, I can look forward to the return of both Ponky and TheUrbanMoose since they have stated that after their two year mission that they would.

Sorry for talkin' your ear off. :twilightsheepish:

894278

Similar to him is Larathin Bradley.

I've been waiting for him (him?) to finish putting all his stuff on FimFic! :raritydespair:

894275
Isn't it though?
Feels good, but I also feel like a site geezer.

894283
I'm beginning to know those feels. And I'm not sure how I feel about them. :unsuresweetie:

894290
It's kinda cool, until I watch the whippersnappers pass me up time and again.

Bad luck!

894314
Psh. Who needs luck? :pinkiecrazy:

894275 oh

where's my present

894244
You're going to check out my stories? Prepare for badly written stuff. Good news is that my proofreaders made sure all the grammar and spelling is okay, so there's that. :pinkiehappy:

894366
Well aren't you greedy! :pinkiecrazy:

894398

I'm sure it isn't that bad. iloveportalz0r has shown me what the worst looks like. Not that I'm saying yours would even compare to that, mind you. :twilightsheepish: But fully conveying something meaningful or funny through written expression is hard for many. I bet there'll be a difference between your first submission and your last.

894319
You, apparently.

Welcome to the club, great to have ya'.

-Mis

894422
Nah, not really.

894457
I keep hearing about this club. Is there food involved? :raritystarry:

Ahm thinkin' 'bout writing up a story too.

Good idea about using spring break, I may follow in your disastrous footsteps as I too have begun several yet released no stories.
And I wish you the best of luck in your writing endeavors, but we should take a break now and then to play Dominion.

Gratz on making it a year. And I hope you do write a story someday.

894876

to play Dominion.

Always the best of ideas. We need to work on acquiring the expansions, though.

894895
I hope I do too.
