Some weird person who writes stories about ponies. You should probably just ignore him.

A Little Something for my 500 Subscribers

So I just hit 500 subscribers the other day. I've gotta say, the idea that 500 people said to themselves, "Hey, I think this guy has some neat writing. I think I'll follow him." is just awesome. So, to all of you, I want to say you all are the most awesome people on this planet, and I love every single one of you.
Seriously. I love all of you. Crack open the wine.

Time to Put Riffing to Rest

    Salutations, fair readers, RatherHomely here. Unfortunately, I received a message from the mod team concerning MPPT3K;

It has been brought to the attention of the administration/moderation team that you have continued to publish your anthology "Mystery Pinkie Pie Theatre 3000" due to it being "grandfathered" in.

I'm Back, Bitches! (My apologies for calling you all bitches.)

Ah, 2013. A glorious start to a new year, so full of potential, possibilities, a different word for potential, and fiscal cliffs.
    Is gonna be good.

    Hiatus

    Hello.
    ...
    Yes, hello.
I'm going on a hiatus for an unknown period of time.
Unfortunately, I just learned that my mother (who's been fighting cancer for the past four months) has about four to six weeks left before she passes on. Personally, I'd rather not waste time writing and instead spend these last few weeks with her.
    Thank you for understanding.

Salutations, fair readers, RatherHomely here. Unfortunately, I received a message from the mod team concerning MPPT3K;

It has been brought to the attention of the administration/moderation team that you have continued to publish your anthology "Mystery Pinkie Pie Theatre 3000" due to it being "grandfathered" in.
While that is okay (in part, and I will come back to it in a moment) by necessity and cordiality, you should ask the authors of the stories you are 'riffing' for their approval prior to actually doing so and posting it. As such, we ask that you willingly revoke the story until you have gathered proof of permission by the authors involved to use their work in this way.
Given the nature of authors here, it is unlikely that getting their go-ahead will pose an actual problem, but it is required and has been pretty much so for a while now. (This is basically the same rule as posting a story that is not your own under your name).
Now, the "Guest" mstings have to go. The "grandfathered" rule applies only to your own work, and only that. Those guest mstings are not your work, and as amusing as they might be to the readers, it's still trying to circumvent the limitations of the rules, and also happens to be blatant abuse of your rights as owning that "grandfathered" story/anthology.
Futhermore, the moderation team has come to the consensus that you will unfortunately need to desist your series. As it stands, the rules will be enforced on your story because it does not represent the continuation of a work that would normally be protected under a grandfathering rule. The MST3K-style is episodic in nature and can be reproduced infinitely since it can be contained to your post under previous enforcement, whereas policy dictates that no new MST3K should be made.
While I understand this might be a pain to do, I ask you to comply for the benefit of all involved.
~WD

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm pretty cool with this.
No, seriously.
Believe it or not, I was already thinking of discontinuing the series after Riffuary. Running MPPT3K was fun, but very time consuming. And as much as I enjoy a good riff, I enjoy a good story more, and MPPT3K was keeping me from doing any other writing. So this isn't so much a "HOLY SHIT THIS SUCKS" message so much as a "This is a sign it's time I moved onto a different project". Loved you, MPPT3K, but it's about time I put you down.
So, I'm going to cooperate with the mods to the fullest. I'm revoking MPPT3K (it's still visible on the site and my profile, so you can still read it whenever you want) and I'm deleting the guest submissions (An additional note; If none of you can post MST's on this site, then I shouldn't have any right to either.).
So that's that. Thanks for reading!

Oh, and if any of you start bitching at the mods about this, I will personally come over to your house and slap you on the head. The mod team does a great job, and I agree with them that MPPT3K was stretching the rules more than it should have.

Edit: Also, as an additional note, you can check out the unpublished stories/riffs that were going to be published for the remainder of Riffuary, but obviously can't be now. The password to access the unpublished chapters is "password". Link is here.

Guess it's for the best.

Well... fuck.

Fair enough. The mods raise a good point.

One thing, though: I imagine the guest riffs are backed up somewhere? It'd be a shame to lose some of them.

I guess all good things must come to an end someday. :ajbemused:

I'm relying on the people who submitted these requests to keep them backed up. A majority of these were written up on google drive, so they should still be saved there.

Any chance you could at least upload them all to Google Docs or something then?

"You hurt the feelings of a few lousy writer. Wah!" Give me a break. What a load of bull crap. Was it that BlueShift guy? Since when were people so sensitive about being riffed? Sheesh. MPPT3K is the only reason why I even stayed at this site, and now...

This is TWE all over again. Well, they did give a warning about it, so at least there's that.

Wow, this is kind of heart breaking.
This was actually what got me to this site in the first place, so seeing MPPT3K just falling like that hurts a lot more than I had expected.
Well, thanks for all the laughs and the best of luck with all your writing. I'll keep watching out for those new stories.
I think that I'm going to go and eat a carton of ice cream in the corner now.

Well crap... I'm going to miss this majorly. Your (and the other author's work) was entertaining to read.

701539
You can still see all of them here on FiM. I think you just need to have the password to look at the unpublished story. (password is "password" by the way)
701549
Some people take riffing to heart, so you can't go blaming people for being upset over such things. As far as I'm aware, Blueshift is not involved in this decision, and I'd prefer it if you don't go hurling accusations around.

701568
Ah, Okay. What's the link though? Can't exactly get to it without a url.

701549 Dunno, man, but hey . We can still post blogs and the like, or GDoc links.:yay::trollestia::yay:

Edit: KNIGHTY!!! Get someone to fix the mobile fimfiction's comment box! It's squashed flat by the screen size!

701568 ... fine. (grumbles something under his breath) I need something cute to make me feel better.

Aww!~

Heh, right when my story was added to the list too. :facehoof:
Oh well, shit happens sometimes.
I look forward to whatever your future projects bring! :pinkiehappy:

*Sitts in a corner crying*

it was fun while it lasted:fluttercry::fluttercry::fluttercry:

I will admit, I thought the series was starting to sag a bit. I guess that's just the risk of having something so long-running; you run out of ideas. Probably was best to just put it down now before it just got plain OLD.
At least Fallen and Glitch (and others) will keep up their riffings. I hope they will, at least. I hope that whatever your next project is works out!

I'm fine with you leaving this forever, but I have a two word question for you: What Now? What will you do with your pen/pencil/keyboard/whatever now that this won't be occupying your time?

Wait, so will the story stay up, and will just not have any more updates, or will it be deleted?

I don't approve of using harsh language lightly, but WHAT THE FUCK?!? I sit here and wait for this to come back for all that time, and then IT GETS SHUT DOWN? I am NOT happy about this.:twilightangry2:

701549 Why did I come back to THIS?! :twilightangry2:

Well, that's a really downer, and here I'd just finished what would've been my first guest submission (insert severe eyebrow waggling). I guess the mods decided their rules apply to everyone. I guess I'll go see if Fan/fic/ Theater will let me join in, I took a liking to riffing.

I would like to use this opportunity to say that threatening a member of the moderation team is not a good practice.

A manly tear was shed today

So are you not posting any more? I remember you saying you had some of the riffuary chapters already written, will those just never see light now?

i even offered up one of my own storys to be riffed, and nothing would have made me happier than to have see the riff on here. but some dumbshit mod decided to kill my favorite story over some stupid shit. now i will rain down my hate upon you all

my comments are being deleted......i call facist censorship

... Damn it. Oh well. But, I mean, first TWE and now MPPT3K?

As someone who's been a part of the MSTing community since '98, (I'm old. Shut up.) author's permission was one of the things you tried to get Back in the Day™. So, to me, this is actually quite understandable.

So if the guest MSTings can no longer be here, then should we start a Google Doc with links to them? At least that way people can read the old submissions. (And maybe see when someone posts a new one.)

HATE, and i agree with the last poster

Oh, Wanderer D... as much as I can't exactly blame you for your decision, I'm still rather saddened by it.

Well... not gonna stop me from running my own joint, as I've been doing since Homely's hiatus. Dammit, though, RGP was just getting put up...

HATE....RatherHomely your awsome, HATE

701549>>701735>>702058 Hey guys... are you still going to post riffs on googledocs like always?

702088 Oh, abso-fuckin'-lutely. They haven't even been put into the site's system, let alone submitted and published. Google Docs, I love you so much sometimes...

My only concern is that I would never have read most of these storries if they were not riffed. It's hard to giggle at the ghostly if you're the only one.

Now I will never know how Not My Deatiny or Studdy Buddies ends.

But some series get cancelled in the 3rd season. It's allright.

702088 Oh I'm definitely doing that still. It just saddens me that I won't be able to do guest submissions anymore.

To be honest, I liked this series. Until summer ended. Then I got too busy to read any bookmarked stories (I have over 132 updates), let alone my small attempts at writing. That being said, I just wonder about the nature of the admins. I do not hate them for their decision, I just question their logic. Not that they should be offended, I question all logic. However, on a site that by its very nature is illegal in (I'm not sure about other countries) the US, as it violates numerous copy-write laws, how can they claim trademarks on MLP material, that is not anyone's on this site, and writing that isn't theirs (as far as I know)? I believe if the author of a riffed story has an issue, they should take it up with the riffer. On that note the admins might just be preventing any wildfires that would result from an unhappy riffee.

On another subject, I was always one to question their rules regarding what is and is not allowed, but as this is their site and I have no part in its day-to-day (nor do I desire any part), I must adhere to them.

This comment is not meant to be mean, harsh, sound irate, criticize anyone, etc., it's only purpose is to merely express my dissatisfaction calmly.

Thank You

*Ahem* Where are they now?

Pinkie and Rainbow: With the money gained from going behind Author's back and publishing the riffs, Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash where able to go on a month long vacation to Las Pegasus

Twilight: Early on, Twilight Sparkle invested in the product soon to be called 'brain bleach'. She made enough money to buy Hasbro and turn the My Little Pony: Friendship is magic brand into an educational line of toys. She was soon fired and sent back to Ponyville, while being chased by angry bronies.

Rarity: Rarity's line of human clothing was a success... However, due to the limited number of humans that would wear something made by a cartoon pony, she was only able to sell it at conventions. However, her designs soon caught the eye of Mr. Stan 'The Man' Lee, who asked her to make a few new designs for upcoming heroes in his comics. The rest is history...

Author: He's still making stories, and has actually healed up very nicely. However, man say that he still does a riff from time to time with a couple of his OC ponies (Twittlelight Spickle and Snarity).
tabbara-general.com/images/no-image-found.jpg

(Also, I'll probably still do some riffing, it all depends)

Tis a shame, but it makes sense.

Good luck on your future stories then.

*sigh* The end of an era. Such a shame it had to come to an end just as it was coming back from hiatus. Oh well, it was a good time while it lasted. Maybe in a year or so, people will look as fondly upon MPPT3K as they do for the actual Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Also, to NaturalGlitch, Atlas, Typewriterpony, and any other riffer I forgot to mention: I expect an increase in your production efficiency starting now. :moustache:

702270 I've got another ten-story marathon in the works as we speak.

702178 I've been following MPPT3K canon (albeit loosely), so I think it's safe to say that, on some level, the experiments still continue.

Sigh. Why? This is bad as well as sad. I dont want the riffing to end. Please don't do this. I for one don't understand why riffing has been banned to start with.

702298 Commentary inserted into another author's work? With the author's work often being most of the chapter? It makes perfect sense if you look at it from that angle.

702288
Indeed, that reminds me. I wana finish reading your riff of that story that shall not be named. *following Fallen Prime* There we go.

702288
Hopefully, the stories are good enough to read without wanting to throw up. No offense, but I stopped reading halfway through the Clopfic Train of Pain because the stories contained within are just... too much.

Also, is there a centralized page of some kind where I can access every riff you guys have ever done? The Fan/fic/ Theater 3000 main document doesn't have all of them, especially the more recent riffs.
