Missing: Hobo Shoestring · 11:55pm April 3rd

I don't have the reach that a lot of YouTubers do, but I've got some railfans in my readership and probably some people who live in Tennessee . . .

Hobo Shoestring was an inspiration for Destination Unknown, and he's gone missing. Southern RailFan is leading a search effort at a lake he liked near his house; here's a video if you want details or think you might want to help:

Given his skills and experience hopping trains, it's also possible he could be anywhere in the US.

Oh he was the inspiration? Awesome, I had no idea.
I've watched shoestring for years. I'd seen the missing notices too. Very sad, its been too long, I don't have high hopes he is okay at this point. :raritycry:

Here's hoping he turns up okay.

Oh hell. I've spent uncounted hours watching his videos and learning fascinating things. I hope he's just in the wind somewhere, but I can't bring myself to believe it.

Huh. Smokey Mountains area? Honestly, not a lot of people up there likely to come across him, unless he's just wandering. Middle Appalachians, this time of year, if he's in trouble, he's in bad straits. I'm afraid I'm not likely to come across him unless he's gone *seriously* wandering, our local rail infrastructure is seriously unfriendly to hobos, and way the hell up and away from the usual major haul-lines.

There's professional hobo, and then there's this guy. The dude is an absolute master.
Unfortunately he left home without extremely critical medication and ALL his hobo gear. He was already not in his right state of mind and was previously at the hospital complaining of hallucinations.
The prospects aren't good.

Yeah... I don't know the details, but that sounds like a 'we're waiting until somebody find the body' sort of situation. Sorry, folks.

In the end, most of us loners are looking forward to that particular conclusion to our story. It's occurred to me more and more often as time ticks on.

I've never even heard of this guy, but I hope he gets found.

Thanks, stranger.:ajsmug:

That's one of the benefits of working for a living. Your co-workers have some idea of where you might be found if you disappear for more than a few days. All of my co-workers, I have a pretty good idea of where they might be found if they no-showed for more than a day. Well, other than the CDL guy for the warehouse...

It's not good news; he has been found deceased in or near the lake near his home.

...shit. I'm so sorry for his loved ones.

Yeh... Damn. Pour one out for ol' Shoestring, but make it a sweet tea in honor of him giving up the drink. He was a unique character and his loss makes the world a less colorful place.

Crap. I'll be sure to pray for him.
Now I'll definitely have to make sure to honor his memory sometime by watching some of his videos. You guys make him sound very interesting.

Don't know if you've seen this yet, but it's worth a look:

Oh, no...
Well... he touched a lot of people's hearts, and educated their minds.
...Not really sure what to say here. I hope things go well for him.
