I have also been informed courtesy of Estee that she has apparently been in contact with a prevention hotline. As it stands now, it seems like she is currently doing better.]

A fellow user whom I consider a friend is at a point of considering taking her own life.
I want to make some things absolutely clear, some things I should have said a long time ago.
There are certain beliefs about people that I once held, some of them that I have been vocal about in certain places around this very site even, that I cannot–will not–stand by any longer. The waning years of a certain presidency and the onset of the Pandemic forced me into a position of asking a lot of questions about myself and what I believe in, and in the end I found myself wanting in some of my core tenants: love thy neighbor, and do unto others.
Over the years I've taken steps to eradicate traces of those statements made on this site regarding those prior sentiments. I want no part of that part of my life to remain. But simply rolling back past mistakes is not enough.
So let me make this clear.
I don't care what ethnic background or faith or orientation you are. I don't care if you're white, black, Asian, Palestinian or from any other ancestry or culture. I do not care if you are Christian, Catholic, Muslim, Buddhist, atheist, or anything other form of spiritual inclination. I do not care if you are straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or anything else. These things do not make the core of a person to me. What does set precedent for how I judge a person is not what they are, but who they are and how they act towards others. It matters not to me whether we were created purposefully by a supernatural creator, or came into being over billions of years of biological evolution; life is valuable and special by virtue of its existence.
To deny that value of anyone, especially for petty reasons such as the color of skin or whom they form a relationship with, is the greatest overarching problem the human race faces. No matter the justification or specifics, it has destroyed lives in futile, pointless, self-destructive conflict. The only elements of humanity that truly do not have a place in this world are those that would actively seek the denigration, reduction, and eradication of others for such differences.
If we are to survive and grow as a people, we need to elect to do better than that. I, even in the midst of those past beliefs and outlooks that I have come to regret so much, have always wanted to at the truest heart of my being. Why do you think I look up so much to the Man of Tomorrow?
So, to summarize: I don't care what background you come from. It does not make you a lesser person in my eyes. You belong in this world as much as anyone else.
And to see someone like my friend driven so badly to this point by the very ideologies and outlooks I myself once held to sickens and grieves me. And I would not be who I say I am if I did not condemn them, nor offer support to my friend and anyone else who might need it.
And if you have any care in the world for your fellow person, go and help. Please.
