So about that Seashell remake... · 6:00am Aug 17th, 2023
No promises. I'm still not deciding if I want to do it or not.
But if I do, I've been struck with an idea (a dangerous thing, I know!).
Okay. See... I want to get at least one of my stories into print at some point, and after speaking to some people at EFNW this year, that goal seems surprisingly practical to attain. I thought self-publishing + print-on-demand would be more demanding as a pursuit, but I'm assured it's not expensive or technically prohibitive. I can afford like $20 a copy to print, and I can format a .PDF, and that's really all you need, it turns out.
And I realized just now, I could synergize that with my interest in doing something more with Seashell.
So I guess this is me testing the waters and doing some initial probing: if I did a special remake (and possibly expanded) edition of Seashell, specifically for printing as a physical book, would anyone want a copy?
The other book option is a print edition of Sunrise.
Or both! I could do both. Both is always a possibility. Maybe even an inevitability, really.
But I really want to start with Seashell, since it's shorter and feels like a perfect warm-up book project for learning print formatting and layout. That feels like the way to do it.
I don't know, I'm just rambling because I guess I'm excited about the idea and because I just went back and re-read Seashell for the first time in years and I still love what I'm seeing and knowing I wrote that makes me feel good. Printing would be a change of pace from publishing on FimFic, for sure. Does anyone want Seashell in print? Would anyone care? Maybe it doesn't even matter, because If I could get it (or Sunrise) into the next Twilight's Book Nook at a future Everfree Northwest or something, I know I'd be thrilled, and maybe that's reason enough to try?
I've been meaning to re-read Seashell for a long while now. I think I'll add that to my lists, now that I've been unintentionally reminded. If it's as good as I remember then yeah, I'd probably want a physical copy.
I'd buy it. And Ghost Lights if that became available too. (If I knew pony artists I would've been tempted to commission art of the sunset on the beach from the latter. That might make a good cover for a physical novel, just sayin'.)
I’d definitely like to have a copy!
I'd like a physical copy, and I imagine my gf Krickis would too. Idk if she ever stated directly in the comments she was leaving, but that read through was me reading it out loud to her, as Seashell is one of my fandom favorites.
Oh, I would love a physical copy of Seashell. I have quite a collection at this point and Seashell would be very high on my wishlist to add to that.
seashell and ghost lights are some of my favorite pony words
would support wholeheartedly
