One night at the Fall Formal, Twilight goes to dance with Flash Sentry. A jealous Spike insists on dancing with Twilight and goes through many efforts possible to make Twilight change her mind.

Fluttershy has a nightmare that Discord hated her.

Fluttershy thought the dream was real, so she gives Discord the silent treatment the next day. Discord feels so bad that he gives Fluttershy the silent treatment, too. Fluttershy and Discord are now officially ex-best friends.

It isn't until Discord rescues Fluttershy that Fluttershy realizes that Discord is still her best friend and that dreams aren't real.

One day, Spike is rummaging through some old stuff in the library when he comes across a picture of a young Twilight and another dragon named Derek. When he asks her who he is, she explains that he was her assistant and best friend years before Spike was born.

So Spike decides to set off to find Derek and return him to Twilight. Eventually, Spike does manage to find him and bring him back, which makes Twilight overjoyed.

After Twilight introduces Derek to her friends and all of Ponyville, Derek goes to live with Applejack and begins to develop an accent just like her, as well as countryisms (even though everypony insists it is fake).

Spike is having trouble falling asleep, no matter how he twists and turns in his little bed. So he wakes Twilight up to help him get to sleep. Despite Twilight's many suggestions, Spike just cannot go to sleep. Finally, Twilight sings him a lullaby to help him sleep.

One fine morning, Twilight Sparkle and Spike set out for a walk outside. Just then, Discord shows up to ruin their day.

As quite expected, Discord pulls some of his mischievous pranks on Twilight and Spike. From the beginning, Twilight is immediately annoyed, but she does her best to keep putting up with Discord and his antics. It would seem it is going to be like this for the rest of the day.

Will Twilight be able to tolerate him any further?

The Cutie Mark Crusaders are so grateful for their cutie marks that they ask Pipsqueak if they could use them against villains with a little help of magic, to which he says they can. Excited, the trio sings a song that honors their goal and desires that involve their cutie marks.

They go to ask Twilight to put a spell on them that grants them such an ability for their cutie marks and she reluctantly agrees and the Crusaders are overjoyed. They travel to the Everfree Forest to test their newfound powers out... only for things to eventually get out of hand. This did not work out quite as the Cutie Mark Crusaders had planned. Long story short, let us just say that the Cutie Mark Crusaders would by now only wish that they actually had something they were fighting for.

And what were they fighting for?

Apple Bloom - Nothing.
Scootaloo - Nothing.
Pipsqueak - Nothing.
Diamond Tiara - Nothing.
Silver Spoon - Nothing.
