We were somewhere around Ponyville, on the edge of the Everfree, when the Poison Joke began to take hold.

Too Much Crap · 10:49pm Apr 10th, 2017

So much bullshit going on in my life right now. Looks like all my serious writing, and especially reviewing, is going to be on hold for a while. No clue how long, but definitely for the near future. This sucks.

Story Milestone - Lightbearers · 4:05am Mar 18th, 2017

Just completed another milestone for my most ambitious story. It's something I started writing in July of last year (I have a lot of unfinished old stories), and have been working on and off but fairly steadily every since. I hadn't intended to talk about it, but having just reached one of my milestones, I though it sounded like a good idea to keep some sort of record of the progress I'm making on it. Maybe that will ensure that I actually finish it, unlike a lot of other crap sitting around

On Pop-Culture Reference Humour in Fanfiction · 11:47pm Jan 29th, 2017

I've been encountering a lot of this in stories that I've been reading lately, so I thought it a good idea to share my observations and thoughts on this particular entertainment device. Basing a story's humour on pop-culture references is a dangerous thing to do, as it can very easily break immersion, alienate readers, and turn an otherwise enjoyable story into an effectively unreadable one. Unfortunately, pop-culture references are extremely popular among novice writers, as it's an

When writing sexy or romantic scenes, Bollywood musical numbers work surprisingly well as inspirational background music.

How in all the various hells can I possibly publish this? · 5:31am Jan 7th, 2017

That feeling you get when you have a story completed, proofread, edited, and generally have pulled together a consensus it's ready to publish, ready to send out into the world to be seen and read by the anonymous masses...

Then you sit down with the doc open in one tab, the web form open in another, and start getting ready to copy it over, chapter by chapter...

The Problem With Editing and Editors · 2:16am Jan 3rd, 2017

I think for me, right now, the biggest problem I'm having with my stories is finding a good editor. Someone who can give my tortured prose the critical eye it so desperately needs. But so far that's proving to be harder than actually spewing words onto a page (which is already hard enough for me to do). The problem has proven so daunting that I haven't bothered with one for the short experimental and fluffy stuff; but I definitely need one for the larger, more seriously-attempted prose.

I have done nothing productive · 12:22am Dec 30th, 2016

Thanks to the holiday, and accompanying depression, I have done nothing whatsoever productive for days. No work on any of the numerous story projects I have; let alone my current primary story (which is bloody huge and eating my brain). No new reviews done. Not hitting even one of my goals.

NaPoWriMo Is Over, and I Didn't Do So Well · 8:34pm Dec 1st, 2016

Welp, after a month of writing with a 30,000 word goal, I can definitely say that I completely and utterly failed to accomplish much of what I set out to do.

At best, I managed a bit over half of that. I intended to have it all contribute to my primary project, but I got stuck on it quite a few times (seasonal depression didn't help), and about a third of what I did write went to other, mostly minor, projects.

NaPoWriMo Is Upon Us · 7:20pm Nov 2nd, 2016

After the problems with my previously published story, and an irritating annual bout of SAD that always kicks in this time of year, I'm semi-recovered and back in the groove on my latest story, just in time for NaPoWriMo. Working title of "Lightbearers".

I would never want to belong anywhere that wants me · 11:50pm Oct 15th, 2016

So, FIMfiction, and life in general, really, is really eroding the tiny little nubbin of hope that I had left for mankind.

I post what I feel to be clever little bits of satire, parody, and character study, shit I work hard on, taking time to craft my language carefully for desired effect, and I get practically nothing, barely a look-in, and then only from those already inclined to approach my work with some (possibly subconscious) level of tolerance, if not favoritism.
