2620193 yes i hate the way spike is being treat in this fanfic and rarity being pregnant with the diamond dog baby i really don't like the idea.. do you just hate spike or something
I really hate to say it since it has nothing to do with this fanfic, but I had such an awful day today. But after coming home and reading this chapter, I suddenly felt right as rain again. I don't care what anyone thinks of how Spike is treated or if Rarity gave birth to a pup, its the genuine thought that counts which make this fanfic stand out. Can't wait to see the next chapter/ending mate. Bring it on home.
2648513 Designated Monkey The Designated Monkey is an unintentional Butt Monkey. They constantly find themselves in horrible situations; the author appears to intend this to be karmic punishment, but the audience (or a significant subgroup of it) thinks that it's out of proportion and will treat them as The Woobie. This can create Moral Dissonance or Values Dissonance in the work, or it could mean that the fandom is misaimed. The audience may even begin to wonder whether the author is deliberately misrepresenting this character to prevent us from sympathizing with them.
2649036 I get that, but this is not our Spike. He is crushing on a fantasy, he believed she needed to be "saved" from these horrible diamond dogs. The reality is staring him in the face, she loves them. Our Spike would be unhappy, but he would not try to ruin Rarity to get her to a point where he can save her. This is not our Spike.
Hmmm... oddly enough this chapter left me unsatisfied. Based on how Twilight has acted so far, I can't buy her sudden 180. Sure, live birth and whatever, but they are still her enemy, if only not for the rest of the day.
Also, it's looking less and less likely for Spike to have any sort of redemption.
Well, I'll never convince you on the Spike front. Let's unpack the other part. That was somewhat Bronystories' doing, I wanted a full hybrid, but he convinced me to do a variation on something that could be called "Disney Genetics." In standard Disney Genetics male children look like the father and females like the mother, even if that would be ridiculous (See: Lady and the Tramp, the children should have been mutts.) In this case that Bronystories sold me on, when two different species breed the child resembles the father. I am a great fan of and supporter for interracial couples and the fantasy/fiction equivalent, sentient-interspecies. Plus Rarity/D-Dogs are a common and even approachable trope. I thought I would add not just cuteness and love, but a child, something that is almost never seen.
Okay, so just speciesism. I get it.Thank you for explaining.
I know of two, actually, both clopfics, oddly enough. But it is much more common in art. It, of course, stems from the episode and the idea of disgust/fascination/fixation/enjoyment, at least in most common explanations.
I was hoping for more intellectual 'oomph' but any explanation is fine.
2649576 listen i like your story okay but like i said before the only things i hate about it is the fact that rarity pregnant with a diamond dogs baby and spike is just a butt monkey. it really pisses me off no offense to you but is spike going to catch a break. it really makes me mad cause i a huge spike/rarity fan is my favorite pairing out of the entire show.
2650232 your right i do enjoy this story but the only that really putting me off is that rarity pregnant with a diamond dogs baby and spike is just the butt monkey. this author BETTER give spike something
This is a very weird, adorable and bittersweet fic and i'm totally ok with this. The only thing that killed the flow of the story flow for me was the scene Granny Smith, it kinda hit like a brick to the face, but thankfully it was an isolated incident.
I kind of have to agree with fanon44 here to some extent. You told us that Spike is the comedy source here, but there was a point where it stopped being funny and turned him from comedy source to whipping boy. Spike is being naive, of course, which works, but you've had essentially the entire cast save Fluttershy and Iron Will crushing his dreams without mercy. He is an absolute, complete loser facing the sort of soul crushing disappointment that can leave people bitter and angry for a very, very long time. His rejection by Rarity could be seen for miles around, but the constant derision by everyone around is what makes it so psychologically damaging, because in the end, they were all proven right. that's incredibly sobering, and even an optimist would end up mired in depression for a while. He might have been unlikeable and needed to learn a lesson, but that kind of fate is only reserved for the worst of the worst. Spike is not, and even though he had a decidedly twisted means to his ends, he had good intentions.
However, at the same time, the Diamond Dogs are not saints here. Their behavior towards Spike is pretty despicable and one has to wonder what Rarity would think if she heard of or saw the way Spike had been treated. Would it change the situation with them, or her feelings towards them? Almost certainly not. Exactly what her reaction would be is an interesting thought, however.
The fact of the matter is, Spike has no reason to like Diamond Dogs, and this whole process isn't the type of event to convince him otherwise.
I question "good intentions" because... even accounting for "naieve fool" credit, he used his political contacts and manipulative polisci training for evil, essentially because he's a standard MRA "Make me a sammich, woman" sort who will think a woman is a whore if they don't instantly see him as the best man ever who can learn them their place and keep 'em poppin' out babies and dinners. I should have poshed his sort of mysoginist position (I tried to just heavily imply it with his backwards and anachronistic love of the chivalric images that have no place in a modern world.)
In which case, why in the heck would he be working for Twilight? Someone like her would drive a misogynist completely bonkers.
Twilight appears to have learned something here in the end and also gained something. What has Spike gained? An eventual trip to a headshrink as he hits rock bottom. It isn't a fate I wish on anybody.
Honestly, I'd really feel less sorry for Spike if the Diamond Dogs hadn't been so vicious to him. The reason he pursued this so diligently is because the Diamond Dogs really didn't paint a rosy picture of themselves. Instead of ignoring him and letting him think what he wanted, they basically told him he was a worthless, festering little troll who will never amount to anything, then dangled and flaunted Rarity in front of him while STILL acting as rude and crude to him without Rarity ever knowing about it. They kept egging him on, so he fought as hard as possible to wrench them away from her. That's the problem as I saw it.
I see your point, actually and this may be an example of a relationship writing fumble and an accidental values dissonance.
As far as the pack knows Spike is just a standard issue greasy troll of a politico, either in the "Moral Crusader" mold (given his boss), the "Quid Pro Quo" mold (he'll work on it in exchange for some sweet pony flesh), or the "Poison Smile" mode (he will promise the moon and destroy everything.) They have no idea how fundamentally off he is. They see it as deserved pranking of some loathsome bureaucrat who is basely trying to hurt the nucelus of their pack/love life. Their loyalty is such that no holds are barred. All they hear from him are threats and rhetoric and that sets off the bullshit alarms. It's probable they've seen his kind before and want the problem gone.
I first started reading Iron Will makes a porno simply because I like the idea of Fluttershy being more than the simply ravaged naive virgin and I admit I rather enjoyed it for the plot. But when I started reading this, I was at first slightly put off by the somewhat lack of sexual explosions. Then I started thinking about it in a less clopfic and more a fic with clop and I haven't had as much fun reading a fanfiction in a long time. Great characters, actual believable development and fantastic use of personalities. I must wonder though, is the reason Big Mac didn't work out with Cheerilee because he was gay? and the porn he now spends all his time watching actually something like "Candied Apples: Caramel coated stallion stuffing" or something? Because that would be funny.
The 'Pandora' reference is obvious enough (open the 'box' and all the ills of the world are unleashed, to be a bit crude), but I can't work out what sort of stigma is associated with 'Cadmus'. The only thing I can think of is the various misfortunes that befell his family (though due to certain deities being petty and vindictive, rather than any particular failing on his part).
2696464 Well, according to myth, Pandora was created by the gods specifically to make mankind miserable and earlier versions of the myth don't give any indication that she's unaware of what's in the box/jar.
Awww this chapter was sweet.
This chapter was beautiful... but also awkward, creepy, kinda sour, somewhat disturbing, mind raping. But nice.
2620193 yes i hate the way spike is being treat in this fanfic and rarity being pregnant with the diamond dog baby i really don't like the idea.. do you just hate spike or something
AWWWWWWW
“Miss Sparkle, would you be a dear and put the little bitch back where she came from so I could record her birth?”

2649069 i still hate it i wish he at least give spike some love
So Twilight and Pinkie both went to the LEZ sorority huh? I'll have to remember that one.
I feel like there is... a lot left generally unresolved. I definitely feel like matters are supposed to be resolved, but like nothing really is.
What feeling am I experiencing? It's fuzzy...yet tender.
Hmmm... oddly enough this chapter left me unsatisfied. Based on how Twilight has acted so far, I can't buy her sudden 180. Sure, live birth and whatever, but they are still her enemy, if only not for the rest of the day.

2649418 okay i just really don't like the diamond dogs and i would prefer interspecies if that interspecies relationship was with spike and rarity
2649418 and what do you mean rarity/d-dogs are common? i haven't seen like only like 1 story featuring that pairing on this entire site
2649437
Okay, so just speciesism. I get it.Thank you for explaining.

Pinkie returned to trotting casually away with Twilight. “Lambda Epsilon Zeta.”

+1.

So... Why keep reading?
This is a very weird, adorable and bittersweet fic and i'm totally ok with this.

i like this.
as for the Spike ... i still hope he comes around in the end, because if he doesn not...well...
that's how super villians are made XD
discord. Discord.
Orthod-Ox priests... That made me put down my phone for a minute just to mull over the terribleness of that pun.
for pan's sake. for Pan's sake.
I Was afraid. I was afraid.
It does not surprise me that Pinkie has a windowless van full of candy.
Lambda Epsilon Zeta... Oy.
The 180 was a bit abrupt, but I see the connection you put in there to foreshadow it. Now I have to wonder if anyone else will.
It's a good thing you mentioned the reason for a full puppy by the way, I was terribly confused as to why she wasn't a Diamond pony.
2650314
Damn dude, chill. You are more persistent than I was when Gabriel tried to make false food synonyms.
2649026 Tvtropes.com
I call a sequel in which Twilight is a suspect for murder, and Pinkie defends her against the undefeated Princess Von Cadenza.
2651194 i don't know why just i like this but that spike and rarity are really annoying me, but i think everything else is fine
2652849
Don't add to myalready severely backlogged queue with awesome ideas of pure awesomeness!
2651517
Orthad-ox.....
I'm both shocked and ashamed that I head to read your comment to get it....

Are we going see g1 characters making appearance in this story like these characters?:
