"Then, Trixie cast the Amniomorphic spell, banishing the demon to the deepest pits of Tartarus!"
Luna clapped her hooves together. "Tell another story!", she shouted, nearing the volume of her Royal Canterlot Voice. Trixie grinned. This was going off without a hitch! If the princess had a crush on her, her social ranking would skyrocket! Ponies hundreds of miles away would travel to Canterlot to watch her magic shows! Yup, this was definitely an opportunity for Trixie.
Trixie started to tell the tale of the time she had fought a pride of manticores with nothing but her magic and her wits. Of course, it never actually happened, but the princess didn't need to know that.
Just then, a knock was heard from the door. Trixie and the princess looked over. "Come in!", called the princess of the night. The door swung open, revealing a messenger who obviously wasn't taking his job very seriously. Was everypony nowadays slacking off in their jobs now that they all had better things to do?
"I have a letter for you,", he said, tossing the letter to the princess. He didn't stick around to see her look of disbelief at his lack of manners. The princess regained her composure and opened the letter.
Dear Luna,
I'm sorry, but I won't be able to come and help you learn the spell today. Delegates from Saddle Arabia have finally made their was here. They must be confused as to why they suddenly grew wings and horns! Can you manage on your own today?
Love,
Celestia
She wouldn't be able to come today? But she already came today, Luna thought. She glanced over at the clock. She had been speaking with Trixie all night, and the hour hand was pointing firmly at the eight.
"Well, Trixie, I think it's time to get down to business.", she stated. The azure Alicorn across from her nodded. Using her magic, Luna lifted a spellbook from across the room and floated it over towards Trixie.
Trixie looked down at the book. It was old, incredibly so, and the pages were yellowing. The cover was made of leather, and Trixie didn't even want to think about where that leather must have been acquired. Using her magic, she opened up the book. Complex spells and notes were jotted all over the pages, giving the book a well used look.
Luna pointed at the book. "There is a bookmark in it, open up to the marked page.". Trixie did as she was told. The page in question was covered in the most complex spell she had ever seen. Trixie doesn't know if even she can do this!
"I won't even bother asking you if you've noticed anything different with eveypony,", she said, "but I will ask you this- Have you noticed that the sun hasn't fallen for days now?"
Trixie looked outside. Now that she thought about it, she couldn't remember the last time she saw the stars shining in the sky. Was it a side effect of whatever happened to change everypony? She voiced her question to the princess, who only lowered her head and sighed.
"You could say that. Everypony turned into an Alicorn like me and my sister as a result of a spell. The spell originated in Ponyville and travelled outward, affecting the whole world. Now, I won't tell you who cast the spell-"
"Was it Sparkle?"
Luna was silent for a moment. "Yes. It was Sparkle."
Trixie nodded. "That explains why everypony is an Alicorn now. Tell Trixie why the sun hasn't lowered."
As Luna relayed the tale of what had happened the last few days, Trixie started to grow more and more uneasy. She could tell where this was going, and she didn't like it. Not one bit. She didn't even care if the princess had a crush on her anymore, she just wanted to get out of here before the princess asked her the inevitable question.
"...and that's why I need you to turn everypony back to normal."
There it was. The question. She didn't want to turn everypony back to normal, she was happy the way she was! Everypony was happy! She voiced her opinion.
"Tell me this, Trixie-", the princess said. "Will everypony still be happy when all the crops burn and we starve? When all the water evaporates? When all the ice from the Crystal Empire melts and floods the coastline?". The princess leaned towards Trixie.
"Will they all be happy when they're all dead?"
1719319
Just because they have long horns doesn't mean they compare to an eons-old goddess.
No, they can't teach the sun raising spell.
Fuck. Well, better go get that amulet, huh?
*Checks for the "Dark" tag*
Nope, not there. Alrighty then, that means everything is going to turn out just fine.
1719326
didn't the unicorns raise them like in hearths warming eve?
1719367
Sssshhhh.
Sshhhh.
No.
1719399
Wow... in a good way?
1719380
seems kinda serious if they're just going to skip all pretense and try and fix everything. don't see why celestia and luna havent' tried and taken a vacation and let everyone do stuff themselves for a little bit now that they've ascended to a new level of existence. maybe make someway where everyone will want to return to normal.
1719380
It's not like anyone exists who remembers that, or even if they did, the modern age dosen't have enough strong unicorns to do such a thing. So relax my friend, no plot hole.
1719405
SHHHHHH.
STOP RUINING THE STORY.
Batman wouldn't physically be able to survive jumping off all those buildings, even with his cape- the story is good. Just enjoy it.
1719410
everyone is an alicorn now, they're stronger.
1719417
ok then it's just that everytime celestia goes down the sun becomes the prime issue and nothing else.
1719418
SSSSSSSSHHHHHHH
Hush now, you silly pone. You're imagining things.
1719458
They may not quite be gods, but thousands of Alicorns are enough to beat him into the dust. Unlike the princesses, these everyday ponies will hold no reservations in punishing Discord for what her did to them.
1719494
I loved that story.
1719503
TRIXIE IS BEST PONE.
They'll all be happy in pony heaven?
Would any of that kill alicorns?
Well.... If the sun is risen over Equestia.... That should mean that it has been night for three days on the oppisite side of the planet, keeping the ice polar caps at a stable level anyway
1719705
In the polar regions of Earth, the sun stays up for months at a time. I like to think it's the same way in the Crystal Empire, and that eventually it will start to melt.
You would think in a world full of alicorns, SOMEPONY would try to move the sun. Somepony out there should be able to do it and if not one then a group of them.
1719943
Stop poking holes!
"Trixie doesnt need to reverse this spell of yours. Trixie merely needs to put the sun to sleep. Watch the Great and Powerful Trixie, " said T G P Lulamoon.
ULTIMATUM!!!
Well....Luna has all the subtly of a sledge hammer. But it's what is needed to snap them out of it.
Que the panicked mobs when everypony finds out they have about six months to live.
1721103
I C wut u did there
1721174
Is there going to be Intermission stories for these characters too ?:
Zecora
Gilda
Braeburn
Fleur de Lis
Mr. Carrot Cake and Mrs. Cup Cake
Cheerilee
1719405>>1719417
He's not ruining the story. He's not thinking at all. It has been eons since unicorns ever touched the heavens, and presumably they were MUCH more powerful in those days, since those were also the days of Starswirl. It took a vast number of unicorns to do so, and it has been so long since the heavens were entrusted to the Sisters and they took their throne, that no one would even know the spells required for the ritual anymore, let alone the fact there would no longer be enough unicorns BOTH powerful -and- learned enough to perform their part of the ritual in the first place.
I also highly doubt Celestia and Luna would have held onto the spells. It kind of cements their rule, y'know? Not to mention you don't want some dark cult slipping in and making off with the power to destroy or control the world at whim. That's the kind of thing you get the fuck rid of, amirite? So no, only Celestia and Luna are capable of it at this point in time, and mortal ponies will never be again.
As it should be, you can't trust 'people' with power, you sure as heck can't trust them with limitless power. Hell, even back when the unicorns did control the heavens, they used it as leverage to keep the pegasi from conquering them and to force the earth ponies to pay them tithes large enough to feed their entire kingdom. Veritable slave labor.
1722825
Seriously, why are you not my pre-reader already?
1722840
My timetable isn't the most reliable, but I pitch in when authors ask me to. Family to take care of, and I try to spend a lot of time with the missus when she's off work.
1722877
I'm a little confused as to who is on my side in this, because according to this argument you're both having, you're both on my side.
I'm fine with that. The point is, in this story, only Celestia can raise the sun because reasons.
1722907
it's hard to say as alicorns are a touchy topic. i've always used high canon to describe alicorns, long aged, high powers. it's just that at this point fanon world building allows for further scenarios. the vastly more popular one is that alicorns are gods; perfectly invincible, all knowing, unstoppable etc. i'm part of the other minority where we keep to what we have and don't try overpowerize them for other reasons. i think some of the problem lies with the fact you've tried to cater to both ends where celestia and luna continue to be depicted as being infinite yet you hint at all other alicorns being stronger but not godlike. i injected the part of unicorns moving the celestial bodies as i didn't want to read another celestia downing story that caters to her fan devolved infinite power as being the biggest motivating factor for problems. i know these discussions are long, back and forth and very discouraging but know that i really like the story but when you pulled the celestia card out in the past few chapters it sent me a red light that it would move to where everything is all dire and tragic rather then discussing how life would be.
and as far as the description where how would equestria deal with thousands of new alicorns, it's not really that when celestia is now dealing with it rather then equestria itself; ie it's all it's inhabitants.
1723002
The intermissions will and have been dealing with the life of everyday citizens.
This is easily the best story I have ever read ever. Like, forever ever, which is a pretty long time.
1723164
Well y'know what, the ending I had planned from the start is going to render all of everyone's arguments invalid and useless.
It will blow your mind.
When you all come crawling towards me, asking 'Clueless... please... give us a better ending...' I will look down and I will say 'No.'
1723199
Did I say mindblown? I meant soul-crushing disappointment.
1722877
Yes. It is canon. Rather, they were able to eons ago. Which is also canon. Unicorns, many ages ago, controlled the heavens. You say that nothing says they can't. I say that's biased thinking, because you want them to be able to in your own personal headcanon. You aren't using deductive reasoning or in-continuity logic at all.
If you say "Show me proof that unicorns can't anymore" I say "Show me proof that they can" and we go nowhere because you refuse to be plausible. I also never attacked anyone for thinking the alicorns aren't gods in the literal sense of the term, that is something that you personally misinterpreted or are attempting to use as an offensive remark. You really need to learn the difference between what has happened and what you think has happened.
Regardless, as for the issues of gods, when we speak of gods and alicorns we don't necessarily mean the sort of god you'll read about in real-life holy texts. Anything that is sufficiently beyond the level mortal ken is and has been referred to as a god throughout history. In Oriental cultures, for instance, the spirits of the deceased are known as gods - especially those thought to be protective. In many cultures, ancestors have undergone similar deific worship. In Japan, the concept of Animism, that sufficiently ancient items develop souls of their own that grow more powerful as the decades pass - is much the same.
The fact that alicorns are more powerful than what we will call for the sake of discussion "mortal ponies" denotes that compared to such they are 'gods'. I'll also point out it's been referenced several times in canon, most notably during Sisterhooves Social when Rarity reprises Scarlett O'Hara's "I'll never be hungry again" line. As follows: "With Celestia as my witness, I will never be sisterless again!" Emphasis on "With Celestia as my witness", which is in all forms in our society a reference to "With God as my witness", a common oath for many generations in recent history and far back into the medieval era.
So, when I say alicorns are gods, I don't mean in the sense that that are all-knowing Creator-like beings. In all likelihood, it's probably closer to the fact that they might be connected to their celestial entities, be it as avatars or temporary and long-lived stewards - it's simpler to refer to them as deities since they are worshipped much the same anyway and afforded similar respect.
1722907
I'd say I'm the one on your side since he's being snide and also trying to point out that unicorns, by his reckoning and wish-fulfillment, still know how to control the sun and moon. And that now they are alicorns, apparently they have the power to do so and so can take control of it whenever.
Which is obviously poppycock and makes absolutely no sense. Transforming into an alicorn is one thing... having built up the magical reserves, spellcasting stamina, understanding of incredibly mind-breakingly complicated magical formulae, and vast time it would require to take hold of the reference level of making full use of alicorn-level magic is a completely different matter altogether. Otherwise Equestria would be a smoldering ruin already because a few alicorns got into scuffles over the price of apples or whatnot.
Deductive reasoning, logical continuity-recreation, and plausible thought will compound any world into a scenario that can be easily broken down, analyzed, put back together, and then explained.
1723223
Tl;dr
I saw the word poppycock and decided I like that word.
1723234
Wow. That was kind of harsh.
Just...
Okay.
1723235
It IS a fun word.
1723234
I think it'd do you good to stop commenting on this story. You are a horrible little person and don't deserve social activity because you lash out at anyone conversing with you like a pointless dunderhead. Properly apologize to Clue and then leave.
1723234>>1723266
But before you go hating on the story and everything, remember that I don't endorse what he said. Stop being bad publicity, Aurora.
1723278
I don't abide trolls. That was a needlessly pointless attack on your writing and potential as a writer that you did not earn. Being snarky and snide is one thing, it's the rapier of conversational wit. But outright insults against someone who has done nothing to earn ire? Gets my dander up.
1723307
I like being sillyly, there's no point to life if you don't be sillyly every once in a while.
1723307
In the future, keep in mind that when speaking to an author, saying something along the lines of "I can't expect better from you" is a horrific insult. It's one thing to not like or even be disdainful of a work of literature - it's another to say that the writer will never become better than a disappointment to you. As a former writer myself, that is a very high and coarse insult.
So if you are truly sorry, try to remember that you need to think how your post will sound to the person you are sending it to - not just how you meant it to sound. Otherwise you run the risk of inciting anger and destroying any level of social interaction you might have otherwise have had. Miscommunication is a dangerous thing.
1723333
Sure, miscommunication is a dangerous thing. Do you want to know what else is a dangerous thing?
Tigers.
1723363
Zebras are worse. Can never be sure if they shoot lightning out of their hooves or what.
1723389
You should write a self insert fanfic about how your life sucks so much but then nobody would read it because nobody cares and don't post your sob story crap on my comment page please thank you very much!
1723389
Try to consider that just because something is the minority does not make it right or worth standing up for. If something is worth defending, it is because it is right or just or holds a special emotional connection. Either way, it's based on its own merits, not how many people subscribe to the way of thought.
In this sense, we're the majority because all signs point towards my earlier posts. Think about it... if unicorns could still control the skies, wouldn't some of the shadier types have tried it already? If it only took a group of unicorns to usurp the power of the Sisters, why hasn't it been done yet?
Your idea is fine by itself. I would like to read a fanfic where that was the case, just because it would be different than the norm. But do try to think of where I'm coming from in terms of canon understanding.
1723399
yea i'm sorry things kinda changed into a one on one heated discussion not meant for this place. i'll delete it. once again i'm sorry if things turned out this way.
