i cant remember that the rest of the story had RGRE elements before this point, is it only for the thestrals and their maybe small stallion population, or what?
Hey, dunno if the story is following actual military rank structure loosely or whatever. But thought it’d make it easier on the author if they knew this.
Any officer (2nd or 1st lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel and the 5 levels of General) are referred to as Sir or Ma’am. You don’t call them by their rank or use their full name.
For none commission officers (Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, Master Sergeant, First Sergeant and the 3 levels of Sergeant Major) you call them a certain way depending on their rank.
You call a Corporal by his rank. A SGT, SSG, SFC and MSG you call Sergeant (tho some master sergeants get butt hurt if you call them Sergeant and insist you call them Master Sergeant). 1SG you call First Sergeant, and all the SGM you call Sergeant Major.
I figure this is loosely based of actual military rank structure since there’s no such thing as a Master Corporal, but I thought i’d share this info in case the author would be interested. I make it easier to write and read if the character addressed by their full name and rank each and every time.

You are correct it is loosely based on real world military, Canadian Military to be more specific (I am Canadian). As such that's the base that I'm using. In the Canadian Military there is a Master Corporal (MCpl) rank, it's the highest Junior NCM rank .
I'm aware that superior officers can be addressed as "Sir" or "Ma'am", but they can also be addressed by rank (In the document it just says rank. I added last name here for clarity). As for extending the same to other ranks, I just wanted to keep consistency. Otherwise it would be 'Major Alarie' and 'Mister Glowerwing' (if I'm reading the document correctly ). Honestly, I like how rank then last name sounds .
I based the Thestral military off real military, but took some creative liberties. If you're curious here's the links.

Shouldn't. Your.

Hey proud to see another Canuck here. Also do the thestrals have double double coffee with their donuts?
