And the new chapter is up.
Artex definitely got the Gene Wilder treatment from Big Macintosh? :ItsAlive:
Also, maybe a problem with GDocs or collaborative method?
I beleive Artex really should start with his mares buy pulling his finger out, unless the natural magical set up is just so bad it has to be broken instead of worked.
7007230 I fixed that. It was a note left for me by my dedicated editor. I just forgot to take it out. Could you explain the final sentence of your comment? I am confused by it.
Fucking SERIOUSLY!? ANOTHER downvote just now?
7007237
Ah, sorry about that, I can get easily confused between stories in history details, especally when feeling a little under the weather. Was thinking if Artex was worried about going straight in with the main meat course, he could maybe start with the fingerlings and hors d'ouvres? Maybe a bit of lip service to calm his mares fears?
7007247 way someone down vote this is a epic story
Just when I thought things couldn't get any more awkward, with Artex's in-laws.
Enter Clean Cut, the private investigator.
7007293 Ah, I get you now. And well... you'll see.
7007337 Lol
7007247
You gotta remember this story shows up on the feature list now. I hear tell of human in Equestria haters down voting anything with the tag.
Also, if you try to read this story without starting at story one, it won't make a whole lot of sense. That'd be my guess for the cause of recent down voting.
I will say though, the first rule of down voting (that is rarely followed) is to leave a comment explaining why.
Could someone give me the Lamine/Lamane/Petamine/etc cheat sheet? Pony relations are confusing
Also, woop woop for Artex, paragon of mercy. I have a feeling Celestia won't be nearly as forgiving, though
I guess there's no more room to accuse Luna of being too lenient with the ex-guards. She said she wanted them to understand the desperation the Humans felt, and the experience wouldn't be complete without the very real possibility of dying from starvation and exposure. I didn't think she had it in her.
If I remember correctly, twenty-one Unicorns came back from the massacre. Another two were carried back later. Proud Hoof was exiled. Four ended up in Flankfurt, including Beacon. That leaves eighteen in Trottingham, now down to eleven.
That's ~38% dead in the first year, with six years left to go.
Might have been more merciful to just execute them, and get it over with.
I'm surprised how little Artex reacted to that piece of news. Maybe he already guessed who they were, and he was just asking to confirm.
What's it say about Trottingham when they just let vagrants freeze to death like that? If I remember correctly, Flankfurt immediately organized aid for their homeless.
This was a very nice chapter. I'm glad to see peace between Artex and Razor's family is starting off on a good setting, despite the obvious setbacks. It's also good to know that her family isn't trying to defend or condone Cloud Cutter's actions, despite their relation to him.
The part about him being the one to warn Canterlot about the army of rabid Diamond Dogs certainly complicates this mess even further. Up to this point Artex seemed pretty steadfast in his opinion that Cutter should fully face the consequences for his actions. Now that this new bit of information has come to light, it would seem as though his original convictions have shifted entirely. One has to wonder where things will go from here.
I'll be honest though, the measuring scene, while fun to read, seemed just a tiny bit out of place considering the rest of the chapter's subject matter. With everything else going on around them, it seems just a little odd that the size compatibility of their naughty bits would even be on their minds.
I enjoyed it either way, so it's no big deal.
I really hope Artex takes an opportunity to offer up a very sincere apology to the nurse he cussed out several chapters previous. Seeing as how she's agreed to continue caring for him, it seems only fair that he put those diplomatic skills to use for her the way he did with Razor's petamine.
Again, this was a really nice chapter. The only real downside is now I have to turn over that proverbial hour glass again and wait for the next chapter to come out.
7007637 Oh Torttingham did too, but try to remember that the punished stallions are not allowed to own anything, including a blanket. They are also not allowed to speak, except to save a life. I did say back in the first story that they were not getting off easy.
7007639 Artex' conviction still stands as firm as always, he just saw a chance to maneuver the proceedings and he chose to do so. BELIEVE me, Cloud Cutter is NOT getting away with the proverbial slap on the hand. Artex has yet to play his next card in this scenario. The next chapter should be fun. He is slow to pick things up, but he is not entirely as helpless as a few other readers seem to think.
7007710
I have so many court and trial references I'm not sure which to chose from.
7007726 I'm actually planning on skipping the court scene almost entirely. It will be extremely brief, only the final outcome and sentencing will be written. There is a good reason why. Oh and Artex gets help, not from Celestia like he had hoped, but from a source that is actually MORE likely to work with him.
7007732
Hmmm... too bad. I've always enjoyed court dramas.
From the sound of it, Celestia will be approaching this case from a "look at the bigger picture" point of view. Had Cutter attacked Artex in a secluded alley or in a private residence, things might have been more simple, but as it stands, the assault took place in public view and in front of a lot of witnesses. It would be naive for us to believe that word of a human nearly being gutted by a pony in the middle of the street wouldn't quickly spread beyond Trottignham. The how, the what, the where and the who of this mess couldn't have been a worse combination of bad timing and bad choices.
At this point, I imagine that Celestia's main priority will be to quell the outrage before she has riot on her hooves.
I'm hoping you include a scene where Artex has a chance to sit down with Cutter for some much needed words, considering the lengths he's going to keep his would-be killer's neck out of the proverbial noose.
7007789 They will talk, I promise.
das treat was wunderbar!
Funny though, I just realized Vaiawa is going to be the only non "Fun size" wife. What with her being near Celestia's size. Is a hybrid possible in this story? I can't remember if its been brought up... I know she can carry a foal in pony form, but it still would be neat to see a little ponyling
I just wonder if there actually is some natural magic in this clusterfrack, or is Artex just bullshitting as hard as he can bullshit.
Pretty sure that's suppose to be "clicking".
7007912 That IS a good question isn't it.
7007817 I see that somebody likes Oriana's filly bits.
After rereading The Warning from UP1, I'm wondering if Artex is going to ask that Cutter's flying abilities be put to use stringing emergency telegraph wires, for faster disaster response.
It would be a fairly heavy community service sentence, and it would keep Cutter away from home long enough to keep him out of Artex's hair. Also might cure the kid of that insular mindset that seems prevalent in small towns.
The sizing, the pelvic curtain, the mare's scream to prevent rape, etc... These ponies seem to have an 'answer' for everything and it makes them seem somewhat like sues. Humans being unable to learn magic without Kavim supervision, the rectifiers, the a'dam... bleh. Even Celestia manipulated the humans, telling them she could bring the town hall down around them and they couldn't do a thing to stop her. Couldn't even smash the ponies when the massacre happened without tremendous loss of life, though at least we took some down with us. I'd like to see a niche group of humans tell the ponies to f*ck off as they attempt to make their way on their own, defying the Ponies every step of the way...
While the guards who followed Proud Hoof in the massacre are not my favorite ponies I am surprised by the comment that alot of them perished of exposure during the winter, with how precious stallions are I thought that the people of the towns and cities they were assigned to would provide them with shelter at least through the winter, or is this isolated to this one town? I know they were to survive on the charity of the towns but come on, or are you trying to paint the fact that the closet towns to New Humansville perhaps are not very charitable in nature?
I mean the loss of almost 50 stallions is a blow to the pony population, with the average herd size that's at least a temporary loss for around 250 mares who won't have a stallion till their sentence is done.
7008041
>_<
Dammit Artex, you do not try to fake an actual Act Of God just to get your brother-in-law out of trouble!
7008262 As I explained before, Trottingham did offer them shelter, some even in their own homes. How else do you think the eleven are still alive? You all did see how bad off Beacon was after his sentence. They're sticking to Luna's punishment because they know they deserve it. And yes, your math is about right.
7008387 If you were in his position, you might do the same thing. He wants to ensure the safety of his future brother in law and he found a way to do it.
He awoke some time later to the sound of the door quietly clocking open.
Viktor beat me to it.
Longest chapter to date.
Bah... another stab at poor Razors mom. I really hope she comes to speak with Artrex. Tho I am worried since some of his opinion may be clouded by Razors own opinion of her. But he does seem to be trying to paint her in a good light to the guards.
Also... ouch. Those poor stallions, freezing to death maybe peaceful compared to other ways but still. I am disappointed that no one showed them some kindnesses at least. What they did was wrong but still.
You keep trapping across my feels, Truthseeker, why do you do this to me?
Can't wait for the next chapter, also wondering about the fate of Beacon (if I'm remembering his name right).
7008408
The only thing I don't get is that none of them turned to banditry at all?
You know what it means to be an outlaw? Like literally it means you are outside the protection of the law.
In medieval times you could made an outlaw *before* you turned to banditry to survive. Being made an outlaw was a form of punishment, like exile. As an outlaw anyone could just kill (or rape) you freely with no repercussions from the church or state.
You weren't a real person as such.
While not quite that severe (I think) these guys are in a similar spot and you would figure at least a few of them would be all like "well buck this" and either run away or turn criminal.
I mean sure, some, hell maybe even most, of them are all kinds of repentant but *all* of them?
7008896
Nah, outlaw doesn't describe their situation. The closest thing in human history to their sentence is a WWII penal battalion.
They're stripped of their ranks, but still have to take orders.
They have deferred sentences of life in the dungeon hanging over their heads, if they don't follow those orders.
They have horrible living conditions meant to break them down and bring their thinking in line with their leaders.
They live under constant scrutiny and loyalty checks, via yearly invasive mind readings.
They're expected to throw themselves into the most dangerous situations, with no equipment, or support.
The only way they get their life back is to basically to survive a suicide mission, like when Beacon got stabbed while using his body to break up a fight between humans and ponies.
They apparently have a huge mortality rate.
Luna has basically dealt with her problem soldiers the same way Stalin dealt with his.
The only thing missing is a commissar ready to shoot them at the first sign of resistance.
7007247 I look at downvotes as the act of someone who can't write for themselves.
7008035 Fixed, thanks!
7008479 Fixed, thanks!
Well humans do not have the Acceptance issue (boy would that ever be a WTF issue since in the previous book that it first happend to a mare that was no virgin to the stallion servicing her) so it would be safe to assume only be limited to ponies. Therefore I postulate that changelings would not have that issue. It would also change things up a bit. That and Bobby had no issue with Alana and they are monogamist.
I imagine the pelvic curtain opening up looks something like:
This. (Warning: NSFW!)
But, ya know, a layer of flesh over the entire surrounding area, not her just the entrance.
7086190 Well... thanks fam.
