Featherweight was never a very important pony. Aside from being chief editor of his school's newspaper, his life is mostly sad, lonely and dull. But when Equestria is drawn into a great civil war, Princess Celestia issues a draft to all ponies between the ages of 14 and 21 to "join their comrades on the field of battle to fight bravely for the glorious Solar Empire." When Featherweight is sucked into the war, how will he overcome the various challenges that are thrown at him?
This is my first attempt at writing a fanfic, please let me know what you think.

It's not a bad premise but could use some work.
I highly recommend going to www.ponychan.net/chan/fic and go to the training grounds. There, reviewers can go through your fic and help you out by pointing out grammar, spelling and general writing errors.
As a first fic, I like your idea though it feels quite rushed. If you get it reviewed and worked on, I'll be quite excited to read more.
I'm debating weather I should include firearms, or melee weapons (swords, axes, etc.). Because firearms and related objects are canon.
435275 I say make it a combination of both since unicorns would be the only ones able to use guns make them in charge or cannons, crossbows, and guns while having the pegasus and earth ponies use melee weapons and have it so guns are just comming out so they would be rareer and use crossbows mostly
I'm thinking about changing it so that it's not just about Featherweight, but instead about a number of different ponies and the effect the war has on them.
