It's time for your bi-weekly review of my reviews over at One Man's Pony Ramblings! But first, have a gander at this:
I'm back from vacation, and here's what happened at my review blog while I was out of town! Some reviewing, some writing advice, some thoughts on the nature of reviewmanship, all courtesy of some very talented folks from around the fandom. Also, this (bi)week we're taking a reader suggestion and adding some bolding to help improve the "eyeflow" of things; I'm not 100% sure what "eyeflow" means, but if it means what I think it means, it's not something I'm very good at, so... hopefully
Hope everyone's enjoying their Super Bowl Sunday! I'll be heading out for a watching party shortly--incidentally, I learned last year that you've gotta be careful which friends you watch the Super Bowl with. Don't want to hang with the crowd that talks over the whole game and then wants you to shush during the halftime show, of all things.
Hello, you several people who followed me over the last week! I assume you're mostly here because Seattle's Angels featured Wyrmlysan. Well, if you didn't already know, I don't just write ponyfic: I also review it on my blog, One Man's Pony Ramblings. So, if you want to get the complete Chris experience, go read all my posts over there! It's only about...
It's been two weeks, and that means it's time to find out what you've been missing if you don't get over to my blog on your own every now and then!
...What, you want more than one sentence of introduction? Then you should go to one of the actual posts; this is just here to show you what's going on over at One Man's Pony Ramblings. Speaking of, here's the last two weeks worth of posts:
Happy pre-Thanksgiving, everyone! Remember, we're just a few days away from the point where you can start putting up Christmas decorations and singing Christmas carols in public without being a bad person. If you've made it this long, you can hold out until Friday!
New news first: As those of you who are writeoff-oriented may already know, I recently took part in the latest minific round. My story did quite well over there, and I was planning to put it in my microfic collection... but as I tried to flesh it out to address some comments I got, it crept over the 1000 word mark, so I decided to publish it as its own piece. Behold!
The first two weeks of the fantasy football season, I lost both of my games... and I lost both of them by a single point
But this week, we're trying something new! Specifically, we're trying "get your fanny beat in a blowout;" as I type this, Jordy Nelson just scored a last-second touchdown in the Packers/Bengals game to make my fantasy score 75-107... and my opponent still has two players left, to my none. Looks like it's gonna be a winless September.
Have you been doing something with your life other than obsessively refreshing my blog, desperate to know whether or not I'd put up a new post, nevermind the fact that it updates punctually at 12:00AM Central on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays? Shame on you! However, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you had something truly important that was distracting you from your vital task of keeping up to date on the latest Chris ramblings. Maybe you were saving orphans
Hey, look! Over here! It's me, the guy from One Man's Pony Ramblings! And if you don't visit my blog on a regular basis, then have I got a treat for you: two weeks worth of reviews, commentary, and... well, ramblings.
Unless you don't like those things, in which case I guess I have nothing for you. My bad! The rest of you, however, can enjoy checking out what I've been up to for the last fortnight:
A day late, and a review short! Still, here's the six five posts you missed if you don't check out my fanfic review blog every Monday-Wednesday-Friday, lovingly assembled and artistically hand-arranged for your enjoyment:
For your (future) consideration, I recently figured out what I need to do to improve a Hearth's Warming story I wrote last year enough to post it (or rather, how to accomplish the thing I already knew I needed to improve), so I'm going to start in on that soon. But not too soon, because pre-Thanksgiving is too early to be writing Christmas(-expy) fiction. Expect a new short, seasonal story from me sometime around the start of December!
It's still Sunday, so I'm not late!
In Chris fic news, I saw that sometime over the past week, Going Up passed 5,000 unique views. I'm edging up on 1% of My Little Dashie, guys! Seriously though, 5,000 people is a mind-boggling number to me, in the context of "people who are reading something you wrote." Exciting!
So I finally got around to watching last week's episode on Saturday, right before the new one came out, and OH MY GOD WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME IT WAS SO GOOD!? Best songs since season two, a play on a literary classic that takes inspiration from the original without feeling the need to hew to it scene-for-scene, a timeless moral about making the world a better place by being the change you desire... A Hearth's Warming Tail had everything I wanted and more. Heck, it even showed me how,
If you've been contemplating writing a guest post for my blog, you have about two weeks left to come up with it! And if you're still on the fence/missed the call for guest posts, head over here to find out more. Right now I've got four yes's and a couple of maybe's, covering reviews, theory, and writing advice. Which is enough to get through my
It's December, and that means it's time to put on your Christmas hats! Join all the cool kids in doing so, if you find it to be a low-effort way to interact with the community and to generally have a little seasonal fun. Or don't, if you find the avatar hats affectatious and juvenile. Your call, but personally? I think they're a cool little tradition. Plus, it's one of TD's most lasting contributions to the fandom, and I think
If you weren't paying attention to the last couple of blogposts from me, this is the first of a new twice-a-month update post I'm doing. If you follow my blog, One Man's Pony Ramblings, then this is all stuff you've seen before. But if not, or if you're someone who just needs to be reminded that things outside of FiMFic exist, here's what I've put up on my review/writing/ponystuff blog since last Monday:
It's that time of year again! Go slap a Santa hat on your avatar, if you're the kind of person who thinks that's fun! If you're the kind of person who thinks that's sorta dumb, then feel free to not do that thing, though. I can relate; sometimes I think things are sorta dumb, too. But personally, I kind of like this tradition, and even if The Descendant's not around to pimp Santa hats, I'd be happy to see it keep being A Thing.
I'm back home now, and I suppose it's time to retire the santa hat for another year. Oh well; into storage it goes!
If you don't religiously track my blog, One Man's Pony Ramblings, then today's your lucky day! Head below the break to see all the exciting things you missed, and to catch up! Or to see all the boring things you missed, and skim past them. Your mileage may vary, I suppose. But hey, I thought they were all pretty interesting posts...
