Review Roundup: February 15-26 PLUS: Going Up Translation and Fan Art! · 10:50pm Feb 28th, 2016

It's time for your bi-weekly review of my reviews over at One Man's Pony Ramblings! But first, have a gander at this:

That right there is fan art for the Russian translation of Going Up, which you can read over here--well, if you can read Russian, anyway (note that the link is SFW, but the site itself isn't necessarily). It's by the same crazy man who re-rendered The Purloined Pony a few years back, so you know it's a quality translation. I'm always floored when someone wrestles my writing into another language; translating fiction (especially stuff like narrative humor, which Going Up is full of) is no small challenge, and it's humbling that someone thought that my story was worth the effort.

But even if you can't read Russian, isn't that a wonderful picture? From the bottle of (Carrot Top's) olive oil to the blueberry-less blueberry bush, the artist did an amazing job. And even without all that, it's cute ponies! Who doesn't like cute ponies?

You can check out lalieri's scetches on her tumblr, if you want to see more. And once you're done admiring the art and/or translation, head below the break to catch up on what I've been reviewing over the past two weeks.

That is indeed some quality fanart.

Once upon a time in a magical land of Equestria I lived a pony.

Not that this was unusual. In the end, in Equestria long ago lived a lot of things, and a fair number of them is a pony. In fact, to be a pony living in Equestria, perhaps the least unusual activity to which the pony can aspire, though strive to be normal in itself unusual, I think you will agree with this.

No, this pony was the most that neither is an ordinary. She lived in an ordinary town, contained an ordinary carrot farm owned ordinary house and led quite an ordinary life. In truth, she was so terribly common that anyone try to write a story about it, he would have found it impossible. Well, think of yourself, who will want to read a story in which nothing happens extraordinary?

But everything suddenly changed one day. On the very day when Carrot Top, resident Ponyville, carrot farmer and completely wingless earth pony, learned to fly.

This is not nearly as funny as other back-translations I've read. :B

ALTHOUGH THE TITLE IS "UPSTAIRS"

The opening may not be the funniest when read via google translate, but I did appreciate how my text:

Or heck, I could just ask you to give me a ride on your back.”

“We’d look awfully silly,” Derpy pointed out.

Turned into this when meticulously translated into Russian, and then haphazardly walloped back into "English:"

Damn, I could just ask you a ride on my back.

- We would look very stupid - saw Derpy.

"haphazard walloping" is the best description for what Google Translate does, I think.
