THIS IS THE GREATEST CARTOON CHARACTER I’VE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! She’s like Pinkie Pie mixed with Cozy Glow, but unlike Cozy, the writers like Luan get away with her evil sadism!!!!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT’S WHAT WE LIKE TO SEE!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome back, writers! It’s Monday and you know what that means! It’s time for Being a Better Writer! And we’ve got a pretty fun topic to go over today.
Welcome readers, to another Monday installment of Being a Better Writer! I hope that you all had a pleasant weekend, and that today’s post kicks off a glorious start to an even better week than the last. Especially where your writing is concerned!
Hello readers! I hope you’re all staying away from groups and doing your part to counter Covid-19 as best you can. Washing your hands, etc. If you are, good! If not, pick up the slack! The better we can do at slowing the spread the better off everyone will be.

All right, everyone. Hope you enjoyed the last post, because it's time to reveal what the big secret is. Lilly and Holly represent masculine and femi... wait, what's that? Georg totally blew my secret and revealed the answer in the last post? ...Oh.
Normally, I'd just make my own OC's for this story (mostly background characters, tbh), but I like the challenge of writing my friends.
So!
If your OC is:
-A Royal Guard (either Luna's or Celestia's)
-A Medic
-A Weather Pony
-A Good Samaritan (from cities BESIDES Canterlot, variety encouraged, the type to happily carry supplies to a different city)
-A Pony Maybe You Don't Mind Being In Hell, If That's Okay With You
GENERAL: The Prenches of Neigh Orleans are a relatively old family, born of an Equestrian-Prench Creole marriage during the 14th century YOH. They are outwardly very respectable: but they have their secrets, and a strange attraction for the sea. They have some marital connections with the Neigh Orleans Lulamoons (Trixie's maternal family) but no more recently than around YOH 1400.
Hello there everybody. Last week's topic was about romance and how you approach it. There are good ways to approach it and bad ways that could hinder your story. But this time around we're approaching a different subject. This topic matter is... a little more necessary, I'd say, to avoid in general. (This also may be me not giving this genre a chance... but there's just nothing creative about it, in my opinion). This could also be a bit controversial, in a slight sense of the word. But other
Cynical:
Strength 10
Perception 5
Endurance 8
Charisma 10
Intelligence 11 (started with 10 and picked up the bobblehead)
Agility 4 (Aside from just poor planning on my part, I chalked it up to his muscles weighing him down in-universe)
Luck 5
Mercy:
Strength 4
Perception 5
Endurance 4
Charisma 10 (I really fucking love Charisma, BTW)
Intelligence 6 (would have been 7 if I remembered to pick up the bobblehead before mods came along)
Oh, sure, I could use a nice literary term like "cipher," but why not use the most inflammatory term I can think of? Let's talk about bland, faceless characters and how to give them the color and flair they need to be interesting characters.
In my review of "Look Before You Sleep," I claimed that most of the episode felt pretty same-y. Most of it boils down to a single idea: Applejack is brash and dirty, while Rarity is refined and clean. It just keeps banging on that same idea over and over again. To punctuate the idea, I coined "the dialogue game," where you simply replace whatever a character is saying with a statement of their character trait; in "Look Before You Sleep," that'd be "I'm messy!" and "I'm snooty!" over and over
Having perhaps a bit too much fun coming up with some of these. Still tweaking the one for Princess Cadance. Something about a guy with a plane for skywriting insisting that she really is an awesome soldier. First person to guess where I got Soarin's bio gets to feel smug about being the first one to guess it.
