A Little Neigh Orleans Gothic: the Bird-Prenches · 11:16pm Mar 4th, 2016
GENERAL: The Prenches of Neigh Orleans are a relatively old family, born of an Equestrian-Prench Creole marriage during the 14th century YOH. They are outwardly very respectable: but they have their secrets, and a strange attraction for the sea. They have some marital connections with the Neigh Orleans Lulamoons (Trixie's maternal family) but no more recently than around YOH 1400.
Bonnie Marcer Prench (1407-1460), an Earth Pony mare, in 1444 married Epenier Le Feu (1393-1457), an Earth Pony stallion. Their children were Valentine ("the Ruffler") Prench (1446-1492), an Earth Pony stallion and noted upper-class seducer; Lucretia Prench (1452-), an Earth Pony mare; and Rich Prench (1455-1499), an Earth Pony stallion and skilled businesspony. Lucretia Prench married Sparrow Bird (1450-1497), a Pegasus stallion, in 1476. They had five children: Dirk (b. 1477), an Earth Pony stallion; Pike (b. 1480) an Earth Pony stallion; Claire Bird Prench (b. 1482) a Pegasus mare; Kitty Bird Prench (b. 1486), a Pegasus mare; and Valentine Heart Prench (b. 1490), an Earth Pony colt.
In 1504 Dirk marries Dove Bird (b. 1487), his first cousin and a Pegasus mare, and in 1505 they have a child, Duck Bird, a Pegasus filly. In 1505 Kitty Bird marries Grey Whitestone (b. 1474), a Northern quarry-owner, stone-shipper and industrialist.
Claire Bird Prench (1482-)

Kind: Pegasus. Sex: Female. Age: Adult (23 in YOH 1505).
Coat: Sky blue. Mane: Purple, worn long and elaborately styled. Eyes: Dark Purple.
Cutie Mark: A white-winged black musical phrase. Talent: Musical Aptitude, Voice.
Skills: Conversation, Fashion, Play Piano, Savoir Faire, Sing.
Appearance: Elegant and beautiful, perhaps a bit plump, but curvy in all the right places, has a sophisticated bearing.
Personality: Claire is classy, highly-intelligent and naturally-sweet -- though her misfortunes in love have begun to sour her. She is impulsively romantic and can have poor judgement when she likes a stallion.
Motivation: Loves music: wants to hear, learn and play music as much as possible. She would like a happy marriage, but has begun to despair of romantic success.
Relationships: Eldest daughter and third child of Lucretia Prench and Sparrow Bird. Younger sister of Dirk and Pike Prench; older sister of Kitty-Bird and Valentine Heart Prench.
Comments: Claire has twice been seriously and often slightly deceived in love. She is quite likely to suffer further heartbreak in the future, since she hasn't learned enough from her misfortunes.
Dirk Prench (1477-) Profession: Merchant Captain. Residence: Neigh Orleans.
Family: Prench. Personal: Dirk. Called: Dirk.
Kind: Earth Pony (some Deep Pony heritage). Sex: Male. Age: Adult (28 in YOH 1505).
Coat: Steel Gray. Mane: Dark gray, worn long in a ponytail. Eyes: Pale gray.
Cutie Mark: Crossed dirks. Talent: Combat reflexes, swimming.
Appearance: Big, athletic and muscular. Ruggedly-handsome.
Personality: Determined, courageous, basically-honorable. Charismatic, protective and unconventional.
Motivations: Adventure, fame and fortune. Love for his family and his wife Dove Bird.
Relationship: Eldest child and son of Lucretia Prench and Sparrow Bird. Recently (spring 1504) married his beloved Dove Bird, his younger cousin, and they have one child, Duck Bird (b . 1505), a Pegasus filly.
Comments: A heroic trading-ship captain. Essentially, a classic action-romance hero. He is drawn to the sea by what is almost a compulsion.
Kitty Bird Prench (1486-) Residence: Neigh Orleans.
Family: Prench Personal: Kitty Bird. Called: Kitty, Kitty-Bird.
Kind: Pegasus. Sex: Female. Age: Adult (19 in YOH 1505).
Coat: Orange. Mane: Reddish-purple streaked, worn very full. Eyes: Orange-gold.
Cutie Mark: White cat-face with wings. Talent: Animal Empathy, with cats.
Skills: Conversation, Psychology, Savoir-Faire, Seduction, Sexual.
Appearance: Plump, pretty and sensual, Kitty-Bird exudes sexuality, with languid motions and an almost purring voice.
Personality: Lascivious and lazy, with a certain sweetness which makes her loveable. She has very few sexual morals, but understands how society works well enough to guard her reputation. She is fairly smart, but hates to make the effort of unnecessary thinking. She is very hedonistic in many aspects of life.
Motivation: Seek and maintain status, wealth, and above all -- pleasure.
Relationships: Youngest daughter and second youngest child of Lucretia Prench and Sparrow Bird. Sexually somewhat promiscuous. In 1505 marries Northern industrialist Grey Whitestone (b. 1474), a wealthy quarry owner and stone shipper, who is relatively agreeable to being discreetly cuckolded.
Comments: Kitty-Bird is a good-natured and mostly harmless hedonist, who lives for long lazy afternoons and slightly-decadent parties. She is the essence of "idle rich," and happy about both conditions.
Lucretia Prench (1452-) Residence: Neigh Orleans.
Family: Prench. Personal: Lucretia. Called: Lucy.
Kind: Earth Pony. Sex: Female. Age: Adult (Middle-Aged) (53 in YOH 1505).
Coat: Pink. Mane: Red, long and curly, now graying and dyed. Eyes: Blue-gray.
Cutie Mark A glowing open mouth. Talent: Enlightening Conversation.
Skills: AK (Neigh Orleans High Society), Conversation, Oratory, Psychology and Savoir-Faire.
Relationships: Head of the Bird-Prenches. Widow of Sparrow Bird. Mother from him of Dirk, Pike, Claire Bird, Kitty Bird and Valentine Heart Prench.
Appearance: Still a handsome mare, though her face and form have begun to age.
Personality: Idealistic, loving and manipulative.
Motivation: Social improvement, and the protection and advancement of her own family.
Comments: Lucy is the sort of upper-class mare whose life is a credit to Equestrian ideals. But does she perhaps have some dark secrets, concealed even from her own family? Why did she have a mysterious stallion friend she used to meet at the beach in the early years of her marriage? And why are her two oldest children so different from her three younger ones?
Pike Prench (1480-) Profession Fishing fleet commander.

Kind: Earth Pony (some Deep Pony heritage) Sex: Male. Age: Adult (25 in YOH 1505).
Coat: Light bluish gray. Mane: Straggly dark blue. Eyes: Light gray.
Cutie Mark: A pike fish. Talent: Swimming, underwater combat and water survival.
Skills: Administration, Fishing, Knife, Leadership, Polearms, Ship Captain, Swimming, Underwater Combat, Weather Sense.
Appearance: Tall, althletic, wiry-muscled. Seems calm and self-confident.
Personality: Amiable, decisive, intelligent. Corageous, honorable and pragmatic.
Motivation: Loyalty to his family and his crews. Desires achievement and professional success.
Relationships: Second oldest son and child of Lucretia Prench and Sparrow Bird. Younger brother of Dirk Prench, elder brother of Claire, Kitty and Valentine. Numerous other relatives, many friends. Well-known and respected in the local fishing and maritime communities.
Comments: Pike Prench is a heroic and wealthy fishing fleet captain.
Valentine Heart Prench (1490-)
Family: Prench. Personal: Valentine Heart. Called: Val.
Profession: Secondary School Student. Residence: Neigh Orleans.
Kind: Earth Pony. Sex: Male. Age: Adolescent (15 in YOH 1505).
Coat: Pink. Mane: Red, worn long. Eyes: Red.
Cutie Mark: A red stylized heart with an arrow through it. Talent: Finding and testoring love.
Skills: Archery, boxing, Dancing, Literature, Poetry, Psychology, Savoir-Faire and Seduction.
Appearance: Slim and handsome in a delicate, almost girlishly-beautiful manner.
Personality: Idealistic, sentimental and romantic. A bit defensive about his masculinity.
Motivation: Hopes to win both true love, and the respect of others.
Relationship: The youngest son and child of Lucretia Prench and Sparrow Bird. Youngest brother of Dirk, Pike, Claire and Kitty. So strongly hopes for true love that he refuses to trifle.
Comments: A romantic young gentlecolt of the ideal type. Females love him ,but he gets mixed reactions from males. He'd be an incredible hearbreaker if he wasn't such an idealist. As it is, many fillies (and some mares, and even some colts and stallions) swoon over him.
INTENTIONS: I may write a story or two about this family, as they appeal to my sense of slightly-decadent upper-class drama.

New Orleans is one of the cities with the most romantic occult lore in America. Surely Neigh Orleans, in a Realm full of magic, strange races and lost magics, can be no less?
