A deeply moving and intimate protrait/love letter to both Japanese cinema and history, Millennium Actress was Satoshi Kon's remarkbly gentle followup to his raw and disturbing feature debut, Perfect Blue.
Brad Bird's directorial debut just might be his most heartfelt, being both a loving ode to the 1950s sci-fi boom, but also a valid, insightful commentary/study on topics ranging from the Cold War, family, and nuclear warfare, all in a sweet natured, endearing, deeply emotional and ultimately uplifting film.
OMG!!!! HE'S COMING BACK!!!!! THIS HITS ME RIGHT IN THE CHILDHOOD!!!!
An almost word for word adaptation of Frank Miller's supremely influential run on Batman, Batman: Year One is an interesting and enjoyable feature that, in many ways, plays as an almost beat for beat parallel to Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, which was heavily influenced by it.
...quiet times alone when I can think clearly. I get ideas for stuff that I'd like to do, but not sure if I can pull those ideas off.
"What's the newest idea? Is it your bestest idea?"
"Pinkie, can you please let somepony finish conveying their thoughts before you interrupt them?"
"Sorry, Twilight. Go ahead, Mr. pabrony."
“Hello, everypony, and welcome to this first ever episode of At the Movies. I’m your host, Starlight Glimmer.”
Every so often, you see a film that simply defies any semblance of logic or sanity, and Eraserhead is possibly the crown jewel of WTF Cinema.
Okay in all honesty I actually saw this like...a week ago or so, so some of the finer elements of the movie's plot may have faded from my mind, but I still feel I can accurately sum up my overall feelings towards this film...
It sucked.
Ghost in the Shell is getting the live action treatment. The movie looks like it could be pretty decent, except for the continued trend of white-washing by the film industry, but... yeah. Trailer came out just yesterday I think.
Okay, i'll admit, I enjoyed the film in a take-your-brain-out-and-don't-think-too-hard kind of way.
It was fun, though the attempts at the human suffering angle the first film had a reasonable crack at, were half hearted at best. They felt like something to fill in the gaps between action sequences, which were plentiful and well presented. So, for a special effectstravaganza that doesn't worry about trying to go all plot on you, points for the film.
Michael Bay would have been proud.
Well that was a let down.
I dont think I've ever loved a movie quite so much in a long time, its given me a positive buzz, and a real fanfiction itch.
Have you ever had an idea that was something you just had to write, no matter how absured? That just happened to me and I've managed to write an opening chapter. I may not continue it into a full fiction, but it was just too good of an idea to not see what I could do with it.
