Throughout my mini-marathon of Make Your Mark Chapter 2 Monday and Tuesday, I had an inkling feeling that it reminded me of Power Rangers.
This morning it clicked.
The show continuously cuts to Opaline's castle, almost always near the end when Misty returns in failure, similar to the cuts to the Moon Palace in Power Rangers.
Opaline uses her magic pool to spy on the Mane Five in a nearly identical way that Rita did with her telescope from the moon.
Now all Opaline needs to do is lob grenades a completely unrealistic distance to make monsters huge.
But then of course that means the Mane Five would need giant robots.
And the fights would need to destroy half of Maretime Bay each time, yet the city would be fine by the next episode.
God my childhood was awesome.

Well, Hasbro owns Power Rangers now, so this homage was probably intentional.
And I think we all have Misty pegged as the inevitable sixth ranger.

Ah yes, MMPR, my childhood. But yes, I would love to see Misty bail on Opaline and join our current cast. She and Izzy really balance each other out with personality— Izzy's bright and bubbly, Misty is more subdued and maybe even a bit shy (at least she kinda seems that way to me).

is it just Mighty Morphin or have you seen/caught up with nearly all 30 seasons? I myself have been a fan since 2012 and am caught up with the show, met a few of the actors in person, seen a ranger cast reveal, and own an autograph from one of the rangers from Mighty Morphin.

I saw the Forever Red episode of Wild Force, and that's as far as I went.

Well first, G5 would need monsters for Opaline to make huge. Also, I'm pretty sure Maretime Bay has already been wrecked a couple of times by the ponies' own magic. Considering that I'm pretty sure each of the Mane 6 are at least partly responsible for wrecking Ponyville at least once each, it's nice to see that tradition survive.

First part was a joke that actually would explain everything with how many times a building is destroyed and hardly any reports of deaths during the fights.
Must have missed that you said it. You're missing out on a lot of crazy stuff. But yeah Lord Zedd is back. Some Crossover over type monster called Reghoul brought him back at his most evilest with a slave collar that makes whoever had it on obey any order given. Rangers destroyed it, Zedd was obviously mad about all and now he's doing his own thing. Oh and we now have an Origin story for him, he's Eltarian and was at one point before a betrayal happened to set him against him, was Friends and comrades with Zordon. Zordon was led to believe his friend was dead and never found out it was Zedd until recent comic issues.
I've barely watched much Power Rangers and even I got Rita Repulsa vibes from Opaliine.
