Wow, I'm so thrilled to finally be doing this after 8 years. I've always wanted to tell more stories involving the original character Dawn, but due to some writer's block and life being life, the story died when it took a sudden hard-left into Grim Dark territory in 2014. So, when I returned for Generation 5 there was one thing on my mind: Continuing the story and fixing it so that I could tell many more stories in the My Little Pony universe!
I got the last bit of encouragement I needed from Starscribe and their discord, and wrote this for NaNoWriMo. I'm excited to start sharing it now as fast as I can edit it, and together we can all return to the Dash of Humanity universe. If it goes well, this will be the first of many more sequels and spin-offs I could write. (not to mention sexy companion stories, I hear people like that stuff too.)
More thoughts
This story is why I haven't written anything else for ~5 weeks, and haven't updated Twilight's Dollhouse or Ponified Without Consent 2 for a while. I also realized that there is one other story I haven't ever gotten around to writing a sequel for: Puppet to her Fame. I've got quite a list of other story ideas written around too.
I think the big thing about writing this story is it sort of "makes it official". I'm back this time, and not just to drop a few updates and vanish again. Putting in enough effort to write 70k words is more than I've done in 8 years, and honestly it was so much fun to find the right reasons to write again. Hopefully that passion shows, and makes the story as enjoyable to read as it was to write. There's more editing and revising to be done and I'm lucky to have an editor that's been doing an amazing job with it.
Dash of Humanity 2 edits/revisions
Mentioning it because it's a possibility, but will see how things goes. I noticed Chapter 10+ of the story could use some polish. I took a lot of notes during the re-read, and things could always be smoothed out. For now though, I'll focus on the new story so I can get it all released over the next 2-3 months. Then we can talk revisions and sequels (of which I've got at least 2 short stories in mind.)

Yeah, the protagonist had an arc about his identity and gender in the second story when they discovered the poison joke could easily switch it. He'd just gotten out of Dash's body and became a male again, only the the poison joke to switch them back to a female.

The first chapter hits all the major plot points, and what happened since the last story with Tirek. The main benefit to reading the originals would be to get a few more of the references or relationships with more minor characters, but the story is pretty well self-contained.

There was a 3rd story that went super grimdark originally that I never finished. It should be a lot more fun as comedy adventute / romcom anyway.

Ah nice! Yeah I read Dash of Humanity a couple of times back in the day, then went through the second book and what was written of the third. I do remember the tone changing pretty drastically, but I'm glad you're redoing it I did enjoy that series a tonne!
