Announcing the "Mockingbirb's Opinionated Flashfic Award," aka MOFA (An Award For Very Short Stories) · 12:23am Nov 29th, 2021

About the MOFA Award

Do you like flash fiction? I like very short stories too!

I'd like to run a flash fiction contest, but I don't like to do WORK. Well, sometimes I don't want to.

On the other hand, who doesn't like telling people what to think sharing their opinions with others complimenting other people?

Fortunately and conveniently, Loganberry is already running a "Flashfic 150" contest, and encourages people to give feedback on stories during and after that contest's official feedback period. So all I have to do is pick my favorite entry from that contest, and give some kind of award with absolutely no endorsement from Loganberry!

I hereby announce the November "Mockingbirb's Opinionated Flashfic Award," aka MOFA.

As Loganberry said in a different context, "As always, please remember that I'm the one deciding this. All it tells you is how much I liked it."

This Month's Winners: November 2021

Loganberry receives a Special Lifetime Achievement MOFA for setting up his "Flashfic 150" contest and keeping it running. Thank you, Loganberry! Please keep it up!

When it comes to the MOFA, I can literally say, "I couldn't do what I'm doing without you, Loganberry!" (Well, maybe I COULD, but it probably wouldn't be as good.)

MOFA First Place goes to anotheraccount for "Curious Construction."

This story is (of course?) well-written and entertaining. The ending is a feghoot that I actually like, which is an unusual achievement. THIS IS A SPOILER YOU SHOULDN'T BE READING IT YET GO READ THE STORY INSTEAD NOW THANK YOU. The story also makes good use of the Ship of Theseus paradox.

Congratulations, anotheraccount!

How to Enter the December MOFA Contest

Just enter Loganberry's December Flashfic 150 Contest, and your story will automatically be considered for the December MOFA too! It's really that easy!

December's theme is "It's a gift!" The Flashfic 150 rules are here.

Have fun! And remember, opinions are like...something everyone has! :trollestia:

Why, thank you very much! Very kind of you. Oh, do I have to say a few words? Okay... "a few words". There. :rainbowwild:

something everyone has!

According to Google's autocomplete, the answer there is currently "a cold right now".

I would rather you have an award than a cold.

Nice to see the group getting some more attention. Congrats to anotheraccount, and with luck, I'll see you all next month!

There were two potential awards for this month and I still couldn't win anything SMH :P

1. There are often more good stories than awards.
2. "It's just my opinion, manpone."

Thank you  :pinkiehappy:

The flashfic 150 is a fun challenge

So... this is going to be a monthly blog entry where you say, "this is the one I liked most from a contest where Loganberry selects the winner because I don't agree with him"? Or is there something more to it than that?

Not trying to be rude, just curious what "award" means here. The fanfare you're giving to your selection over Loganberry's might be a little much for some. You can always talk about and highlight your favorite minific stories without the pretense of supplanting the judgment of the fellow who actually runs the contest.

I suppose this will also be a monthly blog post in which sometimes I will say that my tastes completely agree with Loganberry's about something, but here's a story that I would like to give my personal second or third place or whatever.

And I guess it will be a monthly blog post in which I link to Loganberry's contest and send people there to read the stories and find out more about the contest?

I don't think this is very different from Loganberry encouraging people to discuss the contest entries IN the contest group, which reasonably can include people saying that they really liked stories, and even what their personal favorites are...EXCEPT that I am linking to the group from outside it, and promoting it in that way?

But if yousomeone wants to see it in the most negative way and take that very seriously, I can't really stop youthem.

I do hope this will give Loganberry's Flashfic 150 contest more positive attention.

For what it's worth, I don't mind this at all. Mockingbirb has been in touch with me about it in PMs.

It doesn't bother me, for the record. I just wanted to point out a potential pitfall with readers of your blog, as I myself often have a hard time with impression management.
