Before I begin: I'm 5 away from 200 watchers. :O That's awesome!
So yeah, Magic Duel? Pretty much the best episode ever. I don't know how they can top it, though given the rumors I've heard that could potentially be about the season finale, it may have a run for its money.
Speaking of rumors and spoilers, I saw the clip for this episode last night and it was incredible weird. I can't even explain why. But hey, Scootasode finally!
But before we get there, creepy thought about One Bad Apple: why does AJ only ever refer to Babs as "your cousin" when speaking to Apple Bloom? That's how parents talk. <.< I mean, she's Applejack's cousin too... isn't she?
More thoughts about Magic Duel. Someone complained that Twilight having difficulties lifting a cart or spinning animals around is ridiculous given her performance during Boast Busters with the Ursa. I think, however, that they're missing how Twilight's magic works.
Twilight is, in essence, a power mage. She can cast ridiculously complex spells, but when it comes to levitation or other areas of finesse, she has difficulty. The fact is, Rarity could spin those animals around with no problem; the cart and apples she would have far more difficulty with, however, because of the increased weight. Rarity is a finesse mage.
To Twilight, lifting a cart and a bunch of apples is every bit as difficult as lifting a giant bear, a water tower, and a barn, because she has the magical power to lift large objects, but not the fine control necessary to manipulate more than a few. I'm not sure how well this theory holds up (she is, after all, capable of organizing the library easily, but that could potentially be an 'organize library' spell, versus plain levitation), but I think it helps to explain away seeming inconsistencies.

587165 I am agree. :| Magic Duel is my new "I'm in the minority when I think this episode is good but really overrated" for the season, last season being Luna Eclipsed.
Our season tier is sooo different:
BEST: Too Many Pinkie Pies (because Pinkie)
GREAT: Sleepless in Ponyville (because cutes and funny and good debut by new writer and worldbuilding of Luna)
GOOD: One Bad Apple (songs please me) & Magic Duel
OKAY: The Crystal Kingdom (wife tossing is best Equestrian sport)

Don't really have a standout fave episode this season. All of them had great moments, but none made me flip.

For the record, I consider Magic Duel "great" (kits, we have discussed you being wrong already), Crystal Kingdom "poor" and the rest "good". So despite TMPP being near the bottom, it's still a good episode in my view and leagues beyond the opener.

Agreed. Season 2 was a chore at times, despite some of the great things it brought us, but everything from season 3 since the opener has had at least something amazing to offer and nothing groan-worthy. Even the opener wasn't that bad, just boring!

If AJ's parents' siblings gave birth to Babs, then she would be AJ's cousin as well. Being an older sibling does not change cousin status. My point is, it's slightly odd for her not to have said "our cousin Babs". Heck, if AJ and Apple Bloom's cousin had Babs, she'd still be their (second) cousin.
Not that I'm being serious about any of this in the least.
