It actually feels lately like I've been crawling out of a pit? So maybe there's a light ahead? But it's also blocked by Balatro lol somepony save me D:

The only other thing relevant to this blog is that I've had notes for a vs. post sitting in my notes document for probably the entire month now, what is wrong with me? D:

Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Another post about video games and Youtube and stuff

If I'm going to waste time watching shit on Youtube, the least I can do is tell people about it. :P

Ceave is a crazy Austrian with a love of video games and a head for philosophizing about them. Plus he really, really hates coins, no matter how tasty they may look.

Do you like video games? How about philosophy?

I like one of those things for sure, but no one combines the two better than a Youtuber named InfernalRamblings, a former professional game developer who now creates hour and a half long video essays about the meanings of video games and how they relate to the world today. Here's a few highlights, since this is now basically my only

I did another one

This is kinda fun. Just, y'know, liking something and talking about it. I should try it more often.

Oh, also this, which is not a spoiler and should be viewed by all and sundry. :3

As another individual who has seen the movie, I already agree with the Alphabittle and Haven headcanon. It’d be interesting to see the *ipp sisters having a unicorn for a dad.

I do love that post-credits scene that just shows us earth ponies have magic, too. I specifically love the way it’s shown, that’s great.

Where was this? :rainbowderp:

About 2 minutes into the credits, after the voice cast and other major personal had their cards flash across the screen, with this scene being our transition to the normal scrolling portion of the credits.

Also, the guy on the balloons. That is how you do a running gag! He is the hero we deserve.

I have three roommates.

Two watched the movie with me. The third was at work.

The third got home early and only caught the last couple of minutes, and not even all of it.

Third's confusion was priceless as in the closing moments balloon guy shows up, and the rest of us roommates whooped and hollered our joy/amusement.

It was gloriously well-timed. A shame (almost?) no one else will have similar closing experiences. :rainbowlaugh:

Oh, because the earth pony kid made the glowing hoofprints?

Exactamundo. :raritywink:
It'll depend on whether that gets used going forward, but it does, at least, have the potential for alleviating the complaint of the earth ponies having no magic in this movie even after it was restored - not even the implication of passive botanical magic that was present somewhat in FiM, if never to the degree as it was stated in Faust's comments.
But, yes, it took me a while to realise the implications of that, and when I did, I was gobsmacked. And in a pleased-to-be-gobsmacked way.

Same! An "Earth ponies are cool too" episode is second only to a "Celestia centered episode that doesn't suck balls" on my unfulfilled wishlist for G4. Seeing this in canon is quite nice.

G4 firmly established that history is something that ponies just don't do. Even with the ruins of Canterlot Station right below their hooves, with windows clearly depicting the crystals, the past was a complete blank slate to them. (With the exception of weirdos like Sunny's dad.)

As for the behavior of the crystals... maybe it's because I got more detailed/reinforcing info from Princess Cadance and the Spring Hearts Garden and Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell, but the way they worked seems to be perfectly in line with how the Crystal Heart operates. Since Berrow wrote the books and co-wrote the movie, I would imagine her headcanon influenced both in a similar way. (The rocks do nothing unless their ponies are in Harmony.) Why the three tribal stones had a focus that was built into a lighthouse is a bit weird, but maybe Sunny's dad, the amateur historian/archeologist, found it somewhere and brought it home? I loved that he had a stone paperweight that had what appeared to be Spike's footprint in it.

Anyway, thanks for the reviews! Hope you'll do episode reviews for the new series when it comes out.

Marvelous. :D

5587014
Huh. Now that's interesting! I never did read the Cadence book.

I have to give props to Daedalus Aegle, who read the garden one and summarized it for me. I just re-read the Crystal Heat Spell for research, and noticed the similar mechanics for magical glass do-dads.

Why has no one mentioned…

Surprisingly, out of all the sight gags in this movie, that's the one that stands out the least.

Which really says something about the others!

5587360
is this the rare four-leaf clover I see? Present perfect actually happy with some official Pony stuff?
