I GOT A JOB!!!
I finally, finally got a job in my industry after graduation.
I've only talked a little bit about job hunting on here, but that's been the past 8 months of my life. In 2020, fewer and fewer employers were willing to "take a risk" on someone with less experience. I'd just graduated, and even though I had some experience through co-ops and previous jobs, I didn't yet have the experience most entry-level jobs in my industry (higher education administration and student affairs) was looking for.
Plus, economic uncertainty, and so many people are still losing their jobs so there's so much competition. I've known multiple people who were either close to or lost their job in the past year, and my heart goes out to them.
So, yeah. Job hunting is never ever fun, but there were a bunch of added factors to prolong that stressful period for me way longer than I expected. I'm very lucky that I have a healthy situation where I could live at home and use my savings (took a lot, but I graduated without student debts; for Americans, just know domestic tuition is so, so much cheaper here in Canada than it is in the States). I know I'm ultra lucky in that regard.
But yeah, the stress of job hunting sucked all of the ass. It's depressing, right? You send out application after application, the vast majority of which you don't even hear back from like you're sending everything into a void. I've repeatedly described it to my friends like I felt like I was running head-first into a brick wall, just hoping one of these times there would be an open door.
Looks like I finally found my way in

My industry is higher education administration (and project management, but working up to that). I'll be working at a nearby university doing payroll and human resources!
