Ragos has done it again, written another fantastic entry for my Not-A-Contest!

First we had our changeling plumber, and now it’s a kirin firefighter.

TFireproof
Sweet Inferno is a firefighter on Earth. Being a Kirin is a nice bonus in his line of work.

They’re fireproof, don’t you know?

Admittedly, at first glance that’s kind of on the nose, but trust me, Raugos took a path I wasn’t expecting. I don’t want to spoil anything, so you’ll just have to read it. :derpytongue2: There’s also a bunch of good world-building, such as ‘chewing glass.’

To my untrained eye, the firefighter terminology is accurate; I saw a few words in there that I recognized and techniques that were (again to my untrained eye) realistic. He (I assume) said in his chapter notes that he did research but “the rabbit hole of terminologies and localized practices was way deeper than I had anticipated.” I feel you bro, everything about equine harnesses is like that.

Which story was the changeling plumber?

While I don't expect to get to it for at least hours yet, I already had it on a short list yestercalendarday. Thanks for the recommendation, though. :)

TA Bug in the Pipe
It's not everyday that you have a changeling showing up as your plumber.

One detail in the story (which I assume you’ve read by now) which would cause trouble for normal human thinking, what kind of kit do you give a firefighter who might catch fire on the job?

Like those mentions in The Incredibles about making superhero suits that still work when the character uses their superpower.

It’s a good story, you won’t regret it

Thanks. :)
And very hopefully today I will finally get to it! Things have kept coming up, and it's far from the only story in the urgent backlog now.

And I did, finally, get to it, and indeed enjoyed it; thanks! :D
