Happy Misgiving 2020, everypony! · 3:45pm Nov 26th, 2020

The wheel turns, the Earth’s made another orbit around the sun, and we find ourselves here again.

That’s right, it’s Thanksgiving! Time to hang out with all your family and--

--well, if you’re in the US, probably shouldn’t.

[If you’re not in the US, Thanksgiving isn’t a holiday. Unless you’re in Canada, where they celebrate it sometime in October on a date selected by a more or less arbitrary method than the x Thursday in November (at least it’s not a Lunar holiday like Easter,* so the rules aren’t as weird.].

And let’s be honest, you can’t trust the cranberry jelly. Wolf spiders run the cranberry bogs, you know.

Y’all might remember that one of the residents I work with--worked with--combined the winter holidays into Misgiving. He passed away this year, I’m sorry to say. I wish I could tell you his name, but HIPAA regulations prevent me . . . just the same, this Misgiving--the Misgivingist of Misgivings--let’s raise an appropriately socially-distanced toast to his memory, shall we?

2020’s been a long year. By my calculations, it’s got at least three more years to go before it’s finally over. Maybe four.**

Professionally, our shop’s been rocking it; as of last Friday we had our best year ever (in terms of sales); everything else from this point on is just gravy. Delicious gravy.

Virtual gravy, ‘cause . . . well, pandemic.

As my Maestro once said about the current state of things, ‘work continues apace.’ Don’t expect anything for the rest of November unless I get a wild hair up my :yay:; beyond that maybe there’ll be a Jinglemas fic and maybe there won’t; do expect an announcement before the end of the year about a new Biscuit Enterprises (TM) project that will shock and amaze you (shock and amazement not guaranteed). I’d give y’all a teaser, but I’m currently too lazy to post a pic . . . suffice to say that if I did, it would <advertising revenue keywords>.

And we will continue the tale of my epic adventure up north. Did I catch the ship at the Soo Locks, or was I delayed by one too many Amish buggies? Stay tuned!

Back to the holiday . . . we’ve made it through 2020 thus far, and if nothing else, let’s be thankful for that.

**I hesitate to share this, ‘cause it’s both relatable and barely scratches the surface.

Especially the “I’m still in January.” And the dams bursting . . . I’m in Michigan, and that seems like ancient history. . . . Anyway, best not to click on that link unless you want to relive the first part of 2020 with two dudes in longmeme form.

Maybe we should adopt the Covidian Calender? There would still be people demanding, give us back our 2020? :twilightoops:

Second Monday in October according to Wikipedia, and despite being Canadian I still had to look it up. I'm also a jerk and don't care about hockey, so one could argue that I'm simply not very good at this.

Ouch that link. I keep forgetting how biased that site can get. Funny as heck though.

Happy Misgiving! :)

Happy Thanksgiving, Biscuit! Despite all the bad this year, I'm thankful that we all still have each other and there are still ponies.I believe I'd have lost my mind without my friends here. Hope you have a great day!

Fluttershy pardons the turkey.

Orca pony is a weird ponyform.

Fucks given, zero, having our usual gathering of friends.

Anywho happy turkey day to ya AB

Happy Thanksgiving, Biscuit!

Sorry to hear that the originator of Misgiving has gone the way of all the Earth.

And yeah, 2020 has been one heck of a decade. Giving thanks that I've survived 11/12 of it, so far.

I'm sorry to hear about Mr. Misgivings. You've done well to secure his memory. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours and all your followers.

Happy Mis/Thanksgiving, Biscuit! Here's to hoping Xmas gets here without too much craziness.

There is a shark seapony in the story "Lifegiver" by Meep The Changeling it's just a ways in chapter two.

I'm with you. The headcount mandates are unenforceable, so who gives a flying fart?

Reads like a 5th grade US History book from 2100.

Happy Misgiving to you, too.

I have my own tradition to follow come Thanksgiving, since I don't really celebrate the holiday.

Back in... I want to say 1994, the Sci-Fi Channel aired the Star Wars then-trilogy twice on Thanksgiving weekend: the first time on Saturday in its regular format, and again the next day in a Letterbox format. We'd recorded SW and RotJ at different times, but we didn't have Empire yet; so I took a tape and recorded it that Saturday myself, grabbing all the commercials as well (on my older brother's suggestion). For the past decade or thereabouts around this time of year, I get the tape back out to watch.

(Of course, my mom and one of my older sisters were a bit miffed because the tape I'd used already had a recording of Anne of Avonlea on it, but since we had a separate box-set of that already, they didn't stay mad too long.)

Yeah! They took Aunt Jemima off the syrup bottle

I LOLed at that.

They say the older you get the shorter the years seem. This year has defied that observation by perhaps an order of magnitude. I'm exhausted with still a month to go.

Hope to see you in the flesh next year: it seems so far away and the odds of it happening so low.

For a moment there I thought there was going to be a dangling footnote problem, but I see you fixed it in post. :)
